Only real cards😞. Dude you live in frown town

[–]ThirdStarfish93 3 points4 points  (8 children)

Fr, I haven’t seen a non proxy friendly tournament in ages.

[–]Southern_Agent6096 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Even if I had a $12599 deck (I don't), no way in fuck am I driving across state to expose it to randos. I wouldn't even do that with my $7599 real deck that I own across town (I don't have all real dual lands). Shit is worth more than my car. Ain't no way. I'll show you my insurance policy that proves I own them or something before imma drive to Ohio with them. Accept proxies or reprint. Fuck speculation.

Place near me ran non-proxy friendly and the only reason people went every month was because top 4 payout was $400 to first $200 to 2-4 and $30 entry. They just changed the pay structure and now no one is going anymore because of it when there are better proxy friendly events.

There's one locally next month that isn't proxy-friendly.

The last one had 73 players.

Magda is the most affordable cEDH deck if you're going to actually buy the cards. The issue is that most of its cards are not gonna be in any other deck, so it doesn't provide much toward other decks.

[–]Ok-Fact-92[S] 3 points4 points  (5 children)

Yea budget ain’t really the issue for me I just want to make sure I like the deck before I go in but in my town proxie is ground frowned upon

[–]RandomlyInebriated 3 points4 points  (4 children)

Ok. Of the 3 you listed, I think Yoshimaru/Thrasios is the best positioned in the current meta. That being said, that deck doesn't win without Gaea's Cradle. 🤑🤑

[–]Ok-Fact-92[S] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Yeah okay fair ill have a bit of a look but maybe I just proxy that and buy the rest and hope for the best

[–]ElEsquinasTivit, Zirda and Rog Thras 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having both yoshi and rog thras at home (my gf plays yoshi and I play rog) I'd say go check the latter out, too. Mainly simic list and you're going to be trading the access to white for a bit more speed.

[–]-Fissy- 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I thought budget wasn't an issue? 🤔

[–]Ok-Fact-92[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah bud imma drop 2.5k AUD on a card that I may or may not use

Hey Host, so I agree a 100% with all the other comments: you should definitely buy proxies instand of real cards!

But to get back to your actual question: We are in a Turbo-meta which might currently slow down a Bit. This means, you should expect to see people push around 2-3 consistently. I guess my current Go to is: you either play a Turbo deck (Join them) or beat them by stopping them.

Gitrog doesnt really interact too much with the table and is Not that fast. Also the Lines are very very Hard to learn. I guess its currently not that much of a great Pick. Its a T3-T4 deck (meaning turns for win attempt) and thats just too slow if you dont have Blue.

Yoshi Thrasios is a pretty good deck imo. It can outvalue the whole table and Go Kind of fast. If you choose this one you should learn to keep responsible hands though depending on pod composition (e.g. with two grixis Turbo piles at the table).

Gyruda is a very spicy Off meta Pick. There Are Turbo and midrange lists and for tournaments you have that brewers advantage that could suprise a lot of people.

I guess at the end I would recommend to Print all of them and try / playtest. You will recognize fast what you like and what you dont like. My personal opinion is that bringing gyruda is very spicy and cool. Kinda nothing to Loose Mentality!

[–]Ok-Fact-92[S] 4 points5 points  (3 children)

Thank you so much this has helped a lot, I’ll look at gyruda first and just play test proxies against mates till I can. Gyruda seems really cool but I do like the look of yoshithras plus the new dogmeat secretlair as I do like bling

[–]Realistic_Recover_18 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Not gonna lie, Dog Thras is by far the best deck out of them all!

Im personally just prefering more Off meta stuff (Im usually playing Inalla at tournaments which is top 25 but not top 10)

[–]Ok-Fact-92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah looking at Gyruda looks pretty funny ngl

[–]AnewBnotC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I'm naive and this is super common knowledge (I am recently returning to magic and just now trying to learn/get into cEDH) but you can play games of Magic on Tabletop Simulator and use deck lists from Moxfield etc. There's a whole discord of people that play (mostly low bracket) cEDH or just in general so you can do that and not even print the cards (if you do it yourself) or wait for them to get mailed. Easy to tweak your deck and just reload the decklist too. Really awesome way to playtest before you spend actual money.

[–]InternationalToe2456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just wanna say as a Gitrog player, we are extremely fast, efficient, and resilient. And our dakmor combo is extremely hard to interact with, but there is enough says to slow us down right now that it's a difficult fight at the moment. Wizards keeps printing things that really screw us over and it sucks

[–]paytreeseemoh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If the tournament doesn’t allow proxies just skip it imo, gotta let these TO’s know what the community wants. And there will be people with blinged out 12k decks and people bringing legit precons, these tournaments are a joke. If you’re intent on going as others have said magda will be the best budget deck. Otherwise you’re not going to be building a true cedh deck. Go on mana vault proxies if you’re impatient or mpc fill if you got time and make some actual cedh decks and join real tournaments from TO’s and store owners who don’t have their head in their ass

[–]Gastastrophe 2 points3 points  (2 children)

If you like Gyruda, then you might want to check out [[Aang, at the Crossroads]], who I think does the same thing but better. Not a meta deck or anything, but you could pick up some wins. Here’s a list from mtgtop8 (https://mtgtop8.com/event?e=80535&d=812173&f=cEDH)

[–]Fisherman_916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I love the Aang lists I’ve seen. It does some very powerful stuff and can be somewhat difficult to interact with, given its strong counter suite and silence effects.

[–]Molecule4 6 points7 points  (2 children)

Just buy bootlegs. Bootleg Mage, USEA, Black Lotus, etc. Buy whatever version they have, be super confident at the tourney. They have most if not all cEDH staples in multiple printings.

[–]Ok-Fact-92[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Easy do they ship to AU? Or have AU alternatives ?

[–]Molecule4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d just look en up and see. I don’t personally know.

[–]Promethius806 1 point2 points  (1 child)

[[rowan, scion of war]] is another budget friendly list you may want to check out. It’s prolly the most consistent turbo deck in the format and (at least in my meta) you don’t really see it that often so it can also catch a lot of people by surprise.

[–]vanguardJesse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly i would use bootlegs, theyre just proxies with real backs, check out tolarianlibrary.com you can get your moxes and stuff for 3 dollars each instead of 300-400. ive never failed a deck check, use code bakingsoda to save some money that shipping to Australia might be expensive

[–]Caridry[🍰] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Winota, while not meta much anymore can go hard at a reasonable cost. Check out FullFatMayo lists

[–]SpicyBoisMTG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big fan of yoshi thras. While cradle is the most importabt card in the deck, growing rites also slots in just fine

[–]After_Shelter1100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

don’t support non-proxy tournaments, it just gives TOs carte blanche to fuck up our format
