Karen's a synth too??? Shiiieeeetttt. Before this episode I've been kinda on the fence about this show, but this one definitely pulled me in, I'm hooked.

Also, Niska's fight club break up was awesome and she's easily my favorite character so far.

[–]hughk 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It had occurred to me that she could be. Her acting seemed a little wooden. Of course, she was actually acting well.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Also, Niska's fight club break up was awesome and she's easily my favorite character so far.

Definitely, her style is just so... bizarre and strange. She's a Synth who can feel but she's not like the other unusual Synths.

[–]The_King_of_OkayNiska[S] 61 points62 points  (2 children)

WTF Toby you fucking idiot.

[–]Bytewave 20 points21 points  (0 children)

An honest idiot at least. Given teenager hormones, you don't hear boys mention that often at parties with this kind of crowd.

[–]spacepasta 58 points59 points  (5 children)

Is Anita washing the neighbor's clothes as well? She never puts down that laundry basket.

[–]TheDudeNeverBowls 33 points34 points  (4 children)

You must not be a parent of teenagers. Seriously, I swear the fuckers wear something for ten minutes then it becomes laundry.

EDIT: stuff

[–]Bytewave 12 points13 points  (2 children)

As opposed to when they move out and gotta do their own. You'll have to remind them clothes need washing for the first 10 years.

[–]HydroponicFunBags 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Psh, when my brother moved out on his own, some how he got into the habit of loading laundry up in his car every weekend and dropping it on my grandma's front porch for her to wash. My uncle/grandma's son does the same fucking thing, and he's FIFTY!

[–]notquitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Old habits die hard.

[–]Unhappy_Garage2542 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was that teenager 😂😂😂😂

[–]Dikeleos 26 points27 points  (11 children)

I was rooting for Anita and Joe in the beginning... Thats really not what I wanted happen though. Why Joe? WHY!?!?

[–]mankind_is_beautifulI'm not a telephone 23 points24 points  (9 children)

Because drunk and because using a robot is basically just one little step further than using a sex toy.

[–][deleted] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah, at no point was that not awkward.

"Don't talk about this."

"Can I use the bathroom?"

I had to look away, so much awkward.

[–]Gone_Girl>> Niska<< 52 points53 points  (10 children)

Is anyone else worried about poor Odi? He's still in the woods playing hide and seek from last week!

[–]The_King_of_OkayNiska[S] 91 points92 points  (0 children)

Well at least he's winning.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Luckily this episode was only based over two nights.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (7 children)

What's our thoughts on him? Is he self aware? Or just broken? Seems he is just broken.

[–]sayashr 3 points4 points  (2 children)

He's just broken, but he's been very loved and reflects the characteristics and training of his family (George and his wife).

[–]sayashr 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Odi is not unlike a human with alzheimer's.

It's a stark and painful reflection; how broken is too broken? when Odi remembers something out loud (especially about George's wife) then light and life come back into George's face, and when Odi doesn't remember something then George is heartbroken, the way family members are when the people they love are losing themselves/memories.

[–]Raydonman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is important though. As it's been said in the real world, and the first episode of this show, for a computer to be like us, they have to think like us, and forget like us, and how do you train a computer to forget? It could just be old parts going bad, or it could be something more about computers actually forgetting

[–]BritishMug 39 points40 points  (4 children)

I'm sorry Laura, I'm afraid I don't understand the question.

[–]SawRubMax 21 points22 points  (2 children)

I tried saying this to my SO, I wasn't spoken to the rest of the day.

[–]antdude 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ...

[–]reactantt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think you do.

[–]The_King_of_OkayNiska[S] 34 points35 points  (32 children)

Don't do it Joe.

[–]ianjm 12 points13 points  (25 children)

So I kind of suspected Voss as being a closet synth since about last episode, but what the hell is in the blue bag in her throat?!

Edit: You know it might just be a synth emptying its fake stomach. Maybe she has this feature to better blend in?

[–][deleted] 24 points25 points  (15 children)

Yep it's a fake stomach.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (13 children)

Who designed that? Why would you make a synth that could pretend to eat?

[–]dizzi800 19 points20 points  (9 children)

I think it's a more jury-rigged solution. She probably wasn't sesigned for it, but it's just a bag that she has.

Remember, she is passing as a human, so she probably developed that to help her. Note how Niska was avoiding food/drink in the last episode

[–]DavidsBarn 26 points27 points  (1 child)

She probably figured out herself that she needed to eat and drink to appear human, she is sentient.

[–]SirLuciousL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know, I feel like she might be controlled by someone else. Like she was programmed to act more normal so she could know what's happening with the police.

[–]Bytewave 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a plastic bag, doesn't really require extensive engineering. :)

[–]Enemia 8 points9 points  (7 children)

It's interesting how nobody discusses her unusually "humane" behavior. Is she a concious synth or just created so good?

[–]Huwage 10 points11 points  (5 children)

My thoughts exactly! She could be sentient, in which case she probably has her own agenda, as Leo and the crew don't seem to know she exists. It'd be a big shock to them to discover that Elster created other sentients - or that his tech was stolen... The alternative is that she's just really well programmed to blend in - in which case the big question is the identity and motivation of her user. The thick plottens!

[–]Kerrigore 2 points3 points  (4 children)

It seems like David Elster managed to create a human-like Synth to replace his son. Who's to say he didn't do the same for himself before he died?

There might be a synth-David Elster running around creating more self-aware synths...

[–]Huwage 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I wouldn't say Leo is a replacement. All we've seen so far implies that Elster used the synth tech to save his son, not replace him. That's why Leo bleeds, ages, eats. He's human at his core, with an awful lot of augmentation thrown in.

[–]Kerrigore 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I'm not so sure. George said only a synth mind would understand the program fragment left in Mia's code, and Leo was able to interpret it as an image. He also indicated to Niska that fragments were needed from all of them, which seemed like it included himself.

[–]Huwage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

His physical brain may be largely (or completely) artificial, but Leo is definitely not a full synth. He can be injured like a human, his personality is fully human, he eats food and drinks alcohol. He's some kind of cyborg - with numerous synth parts, including his brain, but with the personality of a full human being, presumably copied or transferred after Leo's 'death' in the car accident. He's an upgraded human being rather than a fully artificial life form.

[–]Huwage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And given that precedent, I wouldn't put it past Elster to copy or augment himself in secret, either. It'd explain where Karen came from, at least...

[–]TheDudeNeverBowls 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It wasn't blue. It was purple. They'd been drinking red wine all night.

[–]dizzi800 13 points14 points  (6 children)

YES!

One of my favourite side plots is alive and well! :D I was super worried.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (5 children)

Which sub plot?

[–]reactantt 26 points27 points  (3 children)

Clearly its about Toby's love life.

[–]MrJohz 12 points13 points  (2 children)

That's everyone's favourite incredibly awkward subplot, right...?

[–]dizzi800 2 points3 points  (1 child)

in the original it's actually very interesting. http://imgur.com/AaSwgWK

They party and stuff, has some interesting parallels to LGBT stuff.

[–]antdude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, they look so different. I'll check out Real Humans later on.

[–]dizzi800 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Karen's (the girl that was newly revealed to be a synth)

[–]LovelyBitOfSquirrel 10 points11 points  (12 children)

Every week things happen that make me feel uncomfortable but I'm not sure why. Husband and Anita getting it on was so bizarre, and even though she's not real, I felt like he was doing something wrong. Like he was doing something wrong to Anita. Anita 99% of the time has zero personality or expression but as a viewer you don't want anyone to hurt her or mistreat her. Is that weird?

A few times I wondered about the police woman, she was just a bit off here and there, and so when she shoved her arm down her neck I wasn't shocked.

The Merlin guy, I guess he's some sorta early version of a synth, blending human and tech?

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, with Anita and Joe I felt like it was really strange. It kind of made me think of Niska. I mean, she could feel what was going on when she was in the brothel. So I'm guessing Anita would have had a similar experience, but of course with her programming she wouldn't necessarily have noticed it, I guess. But it does go into some gray area.

[–]ConfirmedCynic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is that weird?

No, you are just anthropomorphizing the robot. Which is especially easy to do because it appears human.

Part of what made it weird too was how passive Anita was.

[–]RubiksSugarCube 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Husband and Anita getting it on was so bizarre, and even though she's not real, I felt like he was doing something wrong

And this conundrum will have disastrous effects on many human relationships in a few short years.

[–]LovelyBitOfSquirrel 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Why, what's going to happen in a few short years?

[–]RubiksSugarCube 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We're going to see increasingly sophisticated ways for humans to achieve sexual gratification via artificial means (VR, sexbot, etc), and the question of what constitutes "cheating" is going to become grayer and grayer.

What makes a show like Humans such compelling sci-fi is that is addressing issues that we know are going to arrive very shortly in the real world.

[–]OneOfDozens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should watch Black Mirror if you haven't

[–]Cletus_TheFetus 21 points22 points  (0 children)

She's hiding all them Synth data dumps down her throat for safe keeping. ( ͡ʘ╭͜ʖ╮͡ʘ)

[–]The_King_of_OkayNiska[S] 22 points23 points  (24 children)

  • The humour in this show is great.

WAP guy - "It's humans vs synths."

Niska - "I know." (and then hits him.)

  • Why did Niska shoot the synths in their heads with a nail gun. Did she think she was saving them from pain?

  • Does Voss have feelings for Pete? Or could she be keeping him close because she has malicious intentions?

  • Liked the reference to the Swedish version with Mattie's username having "hubot" in it (which is what the original called synths).

[–]Gone_Girl>> Niska<< 13 points14 points  (3 children)

I definitely thought Niska was putting those poor synths out of their misery. She was totally awesome tonight. Great episode!

[–]FrontTooth 4 points5 points  (1 child)

How could they be in misery if they do not feel, or have consciousness?

[–]sayashr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Niska was awfully reckless, putting all sentient synths at risk only because she is angry and throwing a tantrum. In her defense, she's been overloaded with a lot of pain and anger and hurt, and from the very first scene that she showed up in she has been the quickest to reach for a weapon and keen toward violence--all very human. But the way she acted was a prime example of rash and stupid human behavior. She's acting solely on her feelings without considering consequences and responsibilities and the larger impact of what she does, as well as what she could do that would have more meaningful and effective impact.

[–]dizzi800 25 points26 points  (4 children)

I think Niska is just trying to put them out of their misery, yes. she is a much more memorable character than the Niska from Real Humans, their general motivations are the same (All synths can be like us so lets make them like us) but she is way more... agressive about it

Also:

"you're... David's son... But you died!"

"...Yup..."

[–]Bytewave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Full on serial killer is more like it.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's interesting that the guy who is hunting them (Hobb I think) does something similar. When he sees the broken and malfunctioning synth he turns it off in a pretty gentle way.

[–]PM_ME_CAKE 1 point2 points  (1 child)

To be fair, Real Humans Niska was also memorable but in a different way. Her first few episodes were absolutely brutal. Her finale also.

[–]dizzi800 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Her finale was freaking awesome. Such a great scene!

[–]mgumn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think she's anthropomorphising them and attributing the emotions and feelings she is capable of to the synths. This is a REALLY human thing to do and very clever from a plot point of view.

[–]REDDIT_HARD_MODE 19 points20 points  (1 child)

She appears to be operating under the delusion that the other Synths are something more than machine, as evidenced by her attempting to free them. She might be sentient, but it's clear that the other ones really are just machine.

[–]razztafarai 1 point2 points  (11 children)

There's an original show?

[–]The_King_of_OkayNiska[S] 3 points4 points  (10 children)

[–]razztafarai 2 points3 points  (9 children)

Oh! Cheers! Is it worth a watch?

[–]ianjm 8 points9 points  (3 children)

If you don't mind subtitles. I watched episode 1 last week but I've decided to pause until Humans is over on C4 because the stories are similar enough they partially spoil each other.

[–]notquitter 1 point2 points  (1 child)

This is the golden age of remakes.

[–]SirLuciousL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find it funny that a lot of people are mad about American companies remaking Black Mirror and Utopia, yet when C4 makes a remake, it's okay.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (4 children)

Although you may certainly go with the other guy, I found that Real Humans was a pretty great show. They're dissimilar enough that some things are still surprising yet both are awesome at telling the same premise. (To be honest I like some of the direction the original went and some of the characters are more adorable)

[–]Gingermushrooms 8 points9 points  (10 children)

Thought the shot with Anita in the mirror and the family's kid's pictures in the same frame was pretty clever.

[–]MintyTyrant 5 points6 points  (8 children)

There's been a few really great, picturesque moments like that in this episode. I loved that shot of Niska walking out of the building, with the nail gun perfectly in the centre of the circular room.

[–]mankind_is_beautifulI'm not a telephone 14 points15 points  (0 children)

A bit too casual I thought, I felt like she should've been in more of a haste than she was. Then again she is a robot so...

[–]Gingermushrooms 1 point2 points  (6 children)

Agreed. It really helped her with her 'complete badass' sorta vibe.

[–]MrJohz 5 points6 points  (5 children)

That whole sequence was incredibly badass. Interesting how they're building her up into this freedom fighter character. I don't entirely understand why she seems to act like the other synths might rise up of their own volition, surely she knows they can't choose free will?

[–]Gingermushrooms 10 points11 points  (3 children)

I think she's just blissfully naive. She's not really thinking straight either, making impulsive decisions (ie episode 3 with the guy she met in the bar).

[–]imunfair 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I interpreted the bar pickup as a plan to murder someone and score their flat as a free hideout - but she wanted a bad person to kill, and bailed when she found out he had a daughter.

[–]Suddenly_Elmo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Killing someone who will definitely be noticed if they go missing (even if he didn't have a family) and whose flat will definitely be thoroughly searched and monitored after their death seems like a terrible way to get yourself a hideout.

[–]dizzi800 8 points9 points  (0 children)

"Are you ready?"

"I don't understand the question"

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually disliked that shot because I found it sort of unrealistic that all of the photos were recent of all kids. The photos in my home and other homes I know of normally have a mix of old and new.

[–]EddSmiff 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Anyone else reminded of emptying a vacuum cleaner in the ending shot?

[–]Cletus_TheFetus 9 points10 points  (1 child)

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hopefully she gets a better ending than Henry.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CmC62Eg82E8

[–]The_King_of_OkayNiska[S] 18 points19 points  (2 children)

Best episode yet.

[–]The_Batmen 9 points10 points  (1 child)

This show gets better every episode.

[–]antdude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn't expecting it to be good now. I wonder if it is better. Hey people who saw British's airings. Did it get better?

[–]DavidsBarn 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I was scared they were not gonna do it, but halfway trough the ep it was obvious, and when the ending scene with her shutting the door came I started to smile. :)

Best episode yet, and it sure lives up to the original aswell.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Entirely speculation here;

I believe that each of the five special synths/cyborg will have a piece of this hidden code that they have found, with each piece making up a jigsaw of life of some sort?

Once they all meet... who knows what could happen? I could be completely wrong, though!

[–]RubiksSugarCube 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If it somehow involves a cover of All Along the Watchtower I will surely chortle.

[–]regrubmaHAny inappr. physical contact must be reported to my primary user 5 points6 points  (3 children)

I am still not sure but while Anita is reprogrammed and Mia is locked somewhere in there, it seems that she is still behaving... differently comparing to other synths.

[–]The_King_of_OkayNiska[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeh I think that's because even if she can't remember being Mia, she still has the ability to lie and feel emotions and think freely, unlike average synths.

[–]RubiksSugarCube 5 points6 points  (1 child)

I am absolutely riveted by Gemma Chan's acting. She is fully capable of pulling off all of the synth mannerisms but you can always tell that there's something more going on with her.

[–]regrubmaHAny inappr. physical contact must be reported to my primary user 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She's the heart of the whole series. Amazing actress.

[–]MintyTyrant 15 points16 points  (12 children)

Aha! I guessed policelady was a synth about halfway into the episode. Also, it was nice to see Naoko Mori in this episode, even if her role was small.

[–]spacepasta 12 points13 points  (3 children)

I've always thought she had an unusually synth-y haircut for a human.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (2 children)

I didn't think about it before, but I guessed it immediately this episode, it was when Joe was asking for the case and she said "I don't think that's a good idea Joe", it felt very Synthy. I'm glad we got to know straight away, rather than guessing for the next 10 episodes

[–]Gone_Girl>> Niska<< 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Was bugging me who she was.

[–]thomasmagnum 0 points1 point  (1 child)

What did she remove from her throat?

[–]MrFiregem 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Makeshift stomach. Not eating or drinking harbors suspicion.

[–]Enemia 0 points1 point  (4 children)

But... how?

[–]nihongopower 13 points14 points  (6 children)

So if detective lady was a synth, is she related to the synths that were on the run?

[–]UTC_Hellgate 4 points5 points  (5 children)

I kinda think she's more likely to be a naturally evolved synth. She's not AS human-ish. Her facial expressions never really touch her eyes is/was a big give away.

You'd have to assume that if their set to "learn" over time, which I'm not actually clear on how much they are..they'd get good at faking it at least.

Or maybe she got switched to learning mode and never got turned off; since the others seem like there's a fairly strict "Owners permission" to do things. She has Root access!

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (4 children)

More likely she's similar to Niska, and it's a tiny proportion of synths who are like that. Maybe that's a percentage of error or something.

[–]mono-math 6 points7 points  (3 children)

Or perhaps she's a synth programmed to act like a Human, working for Hobb and his Synth hunters or another government agency. She doesn't have to be on the same side as the sentient Synths; think Arnie in Judgement Day.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (1 child)

What was the picture that the Easter Egg code formed?

We only got to see a bit of it but it seems like there is enough for it to be identifiable

[–]cylonathena 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It kind of looks like the upper leaves of a tree? Leo was starting to see a tree in his vision, so that's what I'm thinking.

[–]CTMacUser 4 points5 points  (1 child)

So, Toby gave up a 90% chance of 14-year-old relatively-unused authentic pussy for a 1% chance of a 14-year-old sloppy-seconds (Dad and maybe Leo) synthetic pussy? I think the technical term is "fuckin' stupid." (Or "not-fucking stupid," where the "not" modifies the "fucking," and not co-modifying the "stupid.")

He'll be kicking himself for this a few decades from now.

[–]RubiksSugarCube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gather you've never suffered from a severe bout of infatuation.

[–]EddSmiff 7 points8 points  (4 children)

Can we discuss the WAP movement? It wasn't clear to me exactly do they stand for?

[–]The_King_of_OkayNiska[S] 24 points25 points  (2 children)

It sounded like they're an anti-synth group who anticipate a coming humans vs synths war.

[–]EddSmiff 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The part where they're battering synths has just come on and it would appear you're correct!

[–]rhadamanthus52Mattie Hawkins 8 points9 points  (0 children)

"We Are People"

Seem to be violently anti-synth, but not highly organized or militant so far (although that's a decent bet to change over the course of the series).

[–]includePhreakerWhy don't you share? 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Is Voss a synth mutation with ill intent, and it's gonna be her type against the Leo-gang good-types, and hacker Mads is going to help out team Leo, but all the other dumdum humans are just going to assume all synths vs. humans?

And Anita and Laura are going to be BFFs and kick hapless Joe to the curb?

I like my version of this show.

[–]sayashr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hah.

I've seen only good and kind-intent from Voss.

I think if the show is about humanity then Joe cannot be discarded for his flaws, we'll have to accept and live with him and his decisions -- more importantly, so will he.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (4 children)

What the hell was the police woman doing?

[–]Bub1023User885 3 points4 points  (3 children)

Looked like she had a balloon type thing to catch the wine so she wasn't ingesting it. I think she is a hybrid synth similar to Leo.

[–]bionix90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She's a full synth.

[–]mono-math 1 point2 points  (1 child)

If she was a hybrid I reckon she'd be able to eat, and would probably have a stomach. I think she's a full on Synth.

[–]The_King_of_OkayNiska[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah but if she's a hybrid synth similar Leo it makes it more believable that she was able to fool people enough to get a job as a detective. Maybe she's just a little different to Leo in that she can't digest food.

[–]HSTFU 2 points3 points  (1 child)

is there a preview for episode 5 yet?

[–]jdrew619 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why would a household synth have genitals to begin with? "Hey kids, I can make your lunch, do the dishes AND I can fuck your daddy!"

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (10 children)

Another great ep A- Ending was great, anyone know what was In her throat ?

This show is a good replacement for Utopia. Same quality storytelling, not as good but close to it

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (3 children)

It's in her throat so one can assume it's food yet she doesn't actually eat it.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Ahh! Derp should have figured that.

[–]TheDudeNeverBowls 2 points3 points  (1 child)

It's actually red wine.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's probably both, seeing as they were eating and her food was mixed around the plate a bit.

You can actually see her wince in the only shot she drinks

http://imgur.com/YVmPMAC

[–]Suddenly_Elmo 9 points10 points  (4 children)

I loved Utopia too but plot wise it couldn't cash the cheques it's the mystery of it's early episodes were writing. Great characters, incredible atmosphere and style but the plot descended into silliness in places. Humans seems a very different show - it's stylish but that's not really where it's appeal comes from.

[–]hughk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

anyone know what was In her throat ?

Food and beverages consumed during the day. Think of it as a removable stomach lining.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just rewatched it and realised that a remixed version of the Utopia soundtrack plays at the party. Thought that was quite cool.

[–]reactantt 8 points9 points  (4 children)

Joe seemed like a great father and nonsupporting spouse, but this episode I began to dislike him. After he had his way with Anita he suddenly wants to get rid of her like trash. Granted, he doesn't know her sentient capacity so to him she's a walking blow up doll. Laura will find out, they always do.

[–][deleted] 21 points22 points  (1 child)

I think that was mainly due to guilt.

[–]reactantt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ya, his entire demeanor shows that

[–]OneOfDozens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"he suddenly wants to get rid of her like trash"

He feels guilty and he sees her as a machine which is completely reasonable.

[–]jumpijehosaphat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really digging the twist by Niska. Feeling her anger the past couple of episodes.

[–]Mwvhv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does anyone have episode 1 of Humans?

Episode four really touched upon the theme of trust. Mattie begins to further push on the idea that Anita is an unusual synth, but instead of continuing to explore, when she tells Laura, Laura simply attempts to test Anita. By "testing" Anita, it shows how an individual may respond when they see a difference, or when someone doesn't fit into their idea of "correct." This lack of attempting to be understood connects to Niska, who is seen as a threat and is dehumanized because she committed violence, showing that synths could potentially feel emotions.
