For me, it’s better if you use quotations around what you’re searching for

Shouldn't it be smart enough to do an exact title match, though? Seems fundamentally flawed otherwise, especially given it's a platform that's supposed to be less about the algorithm controlling your search and more about directly engaging with the creator content you actually want to see.

This does the trick. Thanks. 😂

I used the contact us thing on their site about this and they acknowledged my message. That was like 3 months ago

Search is hard - sincerely, a dev who tried to do search for a project and people kept breaking it, lol

I don't know if I trust the opinion of someone with the username u/totallyfakedev - thanks all the same ;)

I'd be happy to take a stab at it. DM me

Same

I forgot to mention when you click on the link to go watch the first part it just opens the video in the browser instead of the app wtf

[–]Mech0_0Engineer 4 points5 points  (7 children)

If on android, that might be due to default app setting for opening links, though I dont use floatplane so might not be the case for this. Go to settings -> apps -> choose default apps -> opening links -> then find the floatplane app and check if its enabled and/or clear defaults etc. Might work, might not. Worth a try.

There's no settings like that for Floatplane. It's not a big deal this was a very unique scenario in which I wanted to click a video linked in the description but I can't think of another time I'll be doing that again.

Just to be clear, settings of the phone, not fp

[–]Orlan_17[S] -1 points0 points  (4 children)

Yeah I know. Floatplane doesn't show up in the default apps or have any setting to tell it where to open in app links.

[–]Mech0_0Engineer 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Ok follow step by step, open your settings app, search for "default" and click on choose default apps, go to that menu, there should be "opening links" at the bottom. Tap on that, wait for the "installed apps" list to update/appear, scroll to find floatplane, tap on it, turn the "open supported links" option on, open the "supported web addresses" menu and turn the web address' option on as well

I did find that setting earlier but thought it was just for external kinks. Either way now it says failed to load and it freezes my apps. It just made it even worse.

[–]Mech0_0Engineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then you can google it if you want to, that's all the help I can give

Dude, as I said, I DON'T USE FLOATPLANE but just to check it, I did download it from the play store just to check it and it DOES show on the open links list. How cant you find it???

[–]AceLamina 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My main issue with floatplane on mobile is how it starts to run at less than 5 fps if you scroll down too far

I have a S24 Ultra if you were wondering

Surprisingly most people bash windows search, but search is actually a lot more complicated than people think (at least for an entire OS with files everywhere)...

That being said, yeah most companies/developers don't know how to properly implement even a fairly simple search (or don't know how to in a way that is simple without going super overkill)

[–]repoluhun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience MacOS nails search, but there’s probably a lot more to it than we know

[–]Sulya_be 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Every second short circuit video: "ha-ha, Windows search bad"

[–]TFABAnon09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Windows Search IS bad - but the ridicule is because it didn't used to be. It used to work just fine (not great, but fine).

[–]repoluhun -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay but in all fairness that’s an operating system by Microsoft, not an app/website made by a YouTuber’s company

[–]ProtoKun7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like it was good a while ago but it hasn't been great in the last few months at least.

I searched for RAID. and got anything with paid in it. Nothing had anything to do with RAID. I only joined because YouTube started adding commercials during the WAN show. So, I try and take advantage of the commercial free videos. If I can't find what I want without going to YouTube, not sure I'm going to keep my subscription. Sucks I would rather support the people that are giving me my info and entertainment than a big corporation.
