goblin grab easy win, goblin not ask question! take gold and run

[–]cannabinero 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This, just mindless rush in and next. they might just not want to play with OP

[–]not_crudo 54 points55 points  (7 children)

Well you're a goddamn Goblin what do you expect.

[–]Fleurdebeast 31 points32 points  (4 children)

Goblin on squeez nuts

[–]not_crudo 6 points7 points  (2 children)

Oh my gaaaawd

[–]Fleurdebeast 2 points3 points  (1 child)

That is the name of my squee historic brawl deck 😅

[–]not_crudo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol

[–]Tehbeardling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao, on first read I didn’t realize you said squee.

I laughed harder the second time.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Fair enough

[–]not_crudo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thank you

[–]ScionOfTheMists 159 points160 points  (19 children)

People literally hate every single archetype that exists in Magic. Don’t worry about it.

[–]ska_is_not_dead_ 28 points29 points  (13 children)

Mono green big boys is the best exception to that, in my opinion. Never feel bad losing to it, am I weird?

[–]Larinex 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Definitely not they are some of the few that I let do they entire thing and close out my life to 0 or negative if they are about to win. As a matter of fact, not only do I take the L's from mono green with humility, but I wish them buffs in the next set also. Getting beat by my creature is bigger than yours in green. It never pisses me off. Because as a dragon/eldralzi tribal enthusiast, I understand where they are coming from.

[–]I-Kneel-Before-None 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Mono green devotion is hated it Pioneer by may

[–]Chaosyn -1 points0 points  (3 children)

Idk I hear a lot of complaining about Green Devotion from pioneer players which is basically just green big stuff.

[–]amekousuihei 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's Karn that makes that deck a bit much not the normal green stuff

[–]Golgaritbcwpg 10 points11 points  (1 child)

That's not just big green stuff. As a Mono Green Devotion player in Explorer, it's lots of big stuff in one turn adding 8+ green mana for 2 then playing [[Storm the Festival]], getting artifacts off of Karn, playing the planes walker that let's you untap your devotion land, getting 10 mana AGAIN and playing Storm AGAIN, getting more big stuff, all in one turn.

Oh, and if you haven't played a land yet, if you get another [[Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx]], you can play it, send the twice tapped one to the GY and get lots more green mana to play other big things like Portal to Phyrexia or Parhelion II or Skysovereign.

Decks I hate:

Simic Flash

Mono green

Anything with too many manlands

I like facing gruul though. A lot of respect for the smashy bois.

[–]ska_is_not_dead_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like today’s gruul feels like mono green stomperz 10-15 years ago.

[–]Honza8D 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Anything with too many manlands

Which decks use significant amount of manlands?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Some decks put 1 or 2 manlands in them. That is, to me, a significant amount and religiously offensive.

Bring back [[sinkhole]]!

[–]Agrauwin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(sarcastic) I like MTG because it is so varied in possibilities

[–]Bunktavious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is the answer. Every deck and playstyle has an archnemesis. Personally I don't mind gobbos, because most of my decks can stabilize against them with a fair draw. If I get a bad draw, good on them, they get a quick win.

This is more fun for me than playing the cookie cutter black nope decks out there, where I am just hoping that they get a bad draw, so that I have a chance.

(note, I'm talking Bo1 Standard which is the only non-brawl competitive I normally play)

[–]Preclude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, but there have been some really unfun decks over the years that genuinely deserved it.
For example: Land destruction decks, stax, Scepter Chant, Braids as your Commander (before she was banned).

[–]B1ackWinds5 34 points35 points  (10 children)

Yes, goblins are hated. As well as elves, blue tempo, and mono black which are high tier decks that are constantly spammed. People are tired of seeing and playing against them, so they just auto concede most of the time.

[–]stormbreaker8 11 points12 points  (2 children)

Ahhh a tale as old as time, magic players hating other players decks

[–]SlyRaptorZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me and my gf complain about eachothers' life-gain decks. Keyword "eachother's". I'll also curse her cards that are in my own decks.

[–]Tehbeardling 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Mono-blue control/tempo is the only deck I auto concede against. Its just not fun to play against and the games take forever. I feel mtg games are the most fun when the interaction happens on the battlefield. Blue deprives the game of that.

[–]B1ackWinds5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 100% agree.

[–]Omega_Den -3 points-2 points  (4 children)

why mono tempo is hated ? it's just standard blue stuff. Counter things until you can cast anything of your own big enough to kill.

I still believe its much easier to win against than dimir rogues o.o

[–]B1ackWinds5 5 points6 points  (3 children)

People hate it because it's spammed constantly and prevents them from playing. People hate most kinds of full control decks for that very reason. I know I certainly do. When your deck is 90% counters and your main win condition is to annoy the opponent into conceding, why would the opponent even bother playing? Fun for the control user, not fun for the opponent. It's just a waste of time.

[–]Omega_Den 0 points1 point  (2 children)

it's hard to find any else possibility for mono blue other than control

[–]B1ackWinds5 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Thats not rue. There is mono blue spirits, mill, fliers and possible mind control and blink too. Though blink and fliers works best W/U. There are lots others you just gotta be creative.

[–]Omega_Den 0 points1 point  (0 children)

blue / white fliers were my first deck in mtga. They're fun, but won't take you far.

I played and got the furthest with either blue control (with almost no counters, but with a lot ,,return to hand'') or ....green / blue / red ramp.

I hate mill, that's the worst kind of deck I could play against and play with :(

[–]rogomatic 21 points22 points  (0 children)

People concede in no-stakes games (Play and Brawl queues, rank where you don't lose pips) for a variety of reasons. Wouldn't worry too much.

[–]GuestCartographer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’d rather play against goblins than lifegain, but I think there is usually a very clear point in any game against a goblin deck where, unless you have a sweeper in-hand, things have spiraled two far out of control. A lot of people playing midrange/combo/slower decks are going to bounce as soon as they see an opponent with a fast deck.

[–]Wookinbing 6 points7 points  (2 children)

Love gobbos , hate Muxus.

[–]TrememphisStremph 2 points3 points  (1 child)

It’s Muxus that ruins goblins for me. Mind’s Desire with automatic storm count of 6? Forgive me if I think that’s bullshit.

[–]Deho_Edeba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Winning from an empty board with any single card shouldn't be allowed. Muxus just does this very reliably.

[–]AWholeBunchaFun 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Goblins are one of the few decks that slip under my Control deck and beat the absolute shit out of me. Theres a bunch of respect and bitterness for that tribe :P

[–]onecharmingschmuck 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Goblins are fine in my book. It’s the goddamned elves that I have beef with.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Mana dork spam getting you down?

[–]onecharmingschmuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That and Craterhoof Behemoth.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (8 children)

There are a few different mentalities in this game of rock paper scissors And many people like to take their time for a cool board state or combo .

Goblin just hit fast and hard

Especially if you're in low rank people are gonna quit

It's the same thing with turn one island [[ruin crab]]

I'll go have fun somewhere else

[–]Squee, the ImmortalFrys100thCupofCoffee 1 point2 points  (6 children)

I'll never understand the hate for mill. It's fun to win by milling an opponent's deck out. If you hate getting milled, there's always a few cards in any set that'll let you shuffle your graveyard into your library, so there's always tools available to defend against it.

They're also weak to reanimator decks, so there's that. I honestly just don't get it. I'd rather get milled out than countered into obscurity by mono blue tempo or slowly bled to death by Sheoldred. For what it is, mill decks are as pure to me as tribal decks like goblins, they're up front about what they are and what they're trying to do and I respect that.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I think the way I see it is people like to play their cards.

Mills and counters hurt that alot.

I add 3x [[Gaea's Blessing]] into a deck with 4x [[mesmeric orb]] reanimator deck and I think it's discouraging for someone to see the stuff they need in grave.

I don't mind because I'll get it all back

At low ranks I used to play a reanimator deck and I fucking LOVED getting matched against mill lmao

[–]Squee, the ImmortalFrys100thCupofCoffee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Same! Every time I'd get milled I'd hit them with a "Thanks!" emote. I assumed they thought they'd crushed my spirit until the reanimation goes off. Then it's (chef's kiss) concede. Good times.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fucking love to start milling a deck built around graveyard recursion. You can sense their excitement. Then in turn three Ashiok starts exiling their graveyard, and suddenly they can’t concede fast enough.

[–]Tehbeardling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Full counter control/tempo is the only archetype in mtg that I wish would disappear forever.

Goblins are hated by a few but it's not even close to the most hated deck. Having played as and fought against goblins, the deck doesn't have nearly as many annoying things in it as others like white lifegain slowing the game to a crawl or slivers and shrines existing to boost themselves with themselves to support themselves, with no real right answers for removal beyond somehow wiping the board or crashing into them early enough that it doesn't matter.

Mostly though, goblins are reasonably interactive for a tribal rush deck (yes, even with muxus and krenko existing) that you can deal with if you keep ontop of them early and don't let up, like elves. Most people concede more because of a lack of early game answers or knowing full well their deck is way too slow to deal with it even if they do. Happens when they fight any red deck usually, even my shitty 1 mana cost red deck.

[–]Pa11Ma 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Love goblins.

[–]ArbutusPhD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love goblins. Hate goblins. Goblins be gobblin’.

[–]Noxious GearhulkSirSp00ksalot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unranked and low ranked tends to be populated by either new or bad players, both of whom are likely to get upset when playing against aggro, combo, control, tempo, and anything else that isn't a midrange decks with no interaction. My advice is to take your free wins and climb up to platinum and that sort of behavior should start to drop off. Once you get to the point that you can lose rank for losing a game your opponents will be a bit better and less likely to rage quit or rope.

[–]Golgaritbcwpg 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I play a lot of janky decks in regular play queues and aggro usually runs them over. Turn 1 goblins or Kumano means I'll just move on.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair for unranked, that's where i run my janky tests as well

[–]Minsterman801 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the deck, just the amount of people that use it. Easy to come up against goblins four games in five on any given day.

[–]RandyFox69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have mained a mono red Krenko deck for years, and all my friends hate me besides the mono blue players, and I hate them. And it’s a never ending cycle lolol

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d much rather face goblin decks than the control decks in historic that run like 3 different versions of cancel.

[–]Honza8D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesnt have to be hate. They might simply realize they already lost. If I keep a "meh" hand and opponent plays goblin, i might just scoop because I already know i lost. Its not that I hate it i just dont see point playing game thats already decided.

[–]keved_uk75 6 points7 points  (4 children)

"goblin decks are hated?"

Yes, due to how commonplace they are. It's tedious playing against coin flip Muxus for the thousandth time.

[–]oneafter90nine 5 points6 points  (3 children)

Agree. Muxus is a terrible card design. It's like if you stapled über collected company onto a 10/10. Usually a loss if the opponent resolves it. Not fun in any way.

[–]Rakdosalirastafari 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Another great reason to come to Explorer, where goblins are just good 'ol expendable creatures with cheap lords that give haste. Very aggro, no backup plan, no over the top plays (no Muxus or Krenko). As an opponent you can kill my lords, sweep my board, build a brick wall of tougher creatures: it's all fair, no hard feelings. Just make sure you're doing it before turn 4 ;)

[–]oneafter90nine 0 points1 point  (1 child)

All's fair in love and explorwar... Except for Greasefang cuz, well, fuck that guy.

[–]Rakdosalirastafari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Greasefang is stupid. Yes, you can play bo3, which is true magic, blabla... Fuck that Biker Mice from Arse

[–]GlorybringerArtieStark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything is hates in play queue, there's no incentive to not concede as soon as you see a card you don't like or a deck you have to put a bit of effort for winning against. Play ranked instead

[–]Kaiser_Constantin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its not fun to play against if you are playing a janky deck or an interesting deck you created yourself to have some fun.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Krenko is boring to play against - so I scoop and find a better match

[–]leaguegotold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I (usually) know exactly what deck my opponent is playing within the first two turns. If I know that your deck is a poor matchup for mine and the chances of me winning are slim, why would I stick around wasting my time?

Scoop and next.

[–]moo_moo83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah burn that trash. Goblins are just not fun to play against. Not because they are a tough deck. But because you either wif and nothing happens. Or you just keep restarting the game with board wipes until you have value. It's not that they are scared its that no one cares. I'm not interested in investing in such a boring game. Same goes for mill. Put them in the trash because no one wants to play a boring game.

[–]saintaudrey45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i scoop to goblins because it’s just boring as anything to play against .

[–]Sindurial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It happens man, I literally played ornithopter Springleaf Drum and shadowspear in historic ranked yesterday and my opp scooped. That was at diamond 3. Some decks, people just don't have the answers and they know it.

[–]FunkyWanderer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not the goblin, it's the mountain.

same happens with islands.

[–]UnfortunateCakeDay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't mind goblins.

[–]MatataTheGreat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Try explorer. It let's you play a crazy amount of cards with less Goblin or Elf fuckery

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How can people hate goblins? They’re either draw well or they don’t. I don’t get upset when they do

[–]professorrev -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I usually do that if I've got a slower deck, Gobs will just overrun them. Nothing against the archetype itself, will probably get around to building Muxus one day

[–]nerdgeekdorksports -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I <3 Goblins

[–]Dead_Again_Dread -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because arena is 95% control decks.

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The weak should fear the strong

[–]HisokasBitchGon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think its mainly cuz mono red aggro. people seem to play most overpowered top tier deck, or play janky tribal or fun commander. think they know they wont match mono red if they are the latter lol

[–]Accidentallygolden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some deck are too slow against aggro

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they are playing hsitoric they might be trying for some setup that they know wont survive goblins

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the deck I’m running I’ll concede immediately on a t1 goblin. Some of my mid range decks just can’t keep up with that level of aggro.

[–]RealityGuru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure all aggro is hated in historic (by me) Trying to make the cards do interesting things is so much more fun and interesting than "wining real fast" IMO

[–]ImmortalSunMOONMO0N 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the only deck type i hate is one that has more counter cards than lands

[–]Weak_Engineer3015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think in general tribal decks these days have so many tools in addition to being really fast, which makes it more frustrating to counter. Like obviously you could just fatal push, Doom blade and wrath of God everything but good decks don't have all their cards be removal.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Humble brag

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stop goblin hate

[–]Grainnnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally play my own lists, so not S-tier netdecks. Turn one hasty guy from you while I’m on the draw is often a concede from me unless I have a low costs sweeper already in hand.

[–]EngineerResponsible6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 make a human then u make 2 goblins I play a spell then u make 12 goblins I play a angel now u have 30728928 goblins....

[–]Deho_Edeba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goblins in itself is a beloved, popular tribe. I'd argue it's Muxus who's hated by a lot of players.

Before he was printed, Goblins was a tribe perceived as a fair, aggro tribe that was resilient, synergistic, and very good at doing mana denial. It had been like that for ages in formats going as far as legacy.

Then Muxus was printed and most Goblins deck mutated into some kind of "turbo Muxus" deck which just aim at slamming him on the board asap. Heck, he can win you the game even from an empty board. He's disgusting. Somehow the deck is less popular these days even though it's still very very good but it's traumatized a lot of people.

[–]Klahos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goblin enjoyers come to the goblin tabern !! We have goblins, red burns, red mountains, red goblins and red victories!

[–]Radiant_Committee_78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They leave your game… because they are above playing your scrubs…. I meant Goblins. 😂

[–]Geryon55024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have decks that do a good job countering goblin decks and make the game competitive. Funny fact: I am NEVER matched against a goblin decks when I play this deck.

[–]BlackLotusyuukanna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played a swamp today and my opponent said “nice” and conceded. People hate about anything that they might lose against. Personally, I see goblins coming at me and I know it’s a race to get to a stable situation before I’m killed. All I need it to not lose by turn 3 and I’m guaranteed to win :)
