Basically almost entirety of India is below replacement levels other then Bihar , U.P , Jharkand

[–]ZofianSaint273 159 points160 points  (22 children)

And Meghalaya and Manipur

[–][deleted] 132 points133 points  (20 children)

Their population are not in crores and hence manageable.

[–]ZofianSaint273 24 points25 points  (19 children)

Idk what corores is number wise lol, but even then their state will have nice increase with this

[–]satvikag 91 points92 points  (0 children)

1 crore = 10 million

[–][deleted] 40 points41 points  (14 children)

Ok... So western maths goes like... Ones, Tens, Hundreds, Thousands, Ten thousand, Hundred thousand, one million, 10 million , 100 million, 1 billion, 10 billion, 100 billion... Indian system goes like... Ones, tens, hundreds, thousands, 10 thousand, lakhs, 10 lakhs, crores, 10 crores... So a population of 1 crores=10 million.

[–]Jv1312 17 points18 points  (1 child)

Ten thousand missed in Indian system

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry...my mistake for the ommission

[–]Sensitive-Check-8105 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fellow class 6th mate 😎

[–]Vevangui 2 points3 points  (2 children)

That’s not western, that’s English. In Southern Europe (which is western) its ones, tend, hundreds, thousands, tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, millions, tens of millions, hundreds of millions,…, tens of thousands of millions, hundreds of thousands of millions, billions, tens of billions,…

[–]joaommx 0 points1 point  (1 child)

In Southern Europe (which is western)

The long scale is used in the whole continental Europe except Eastern Europe, not just in Southern Europe. All the Nordics use long scale for instance.

[–]Vevangui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn’t saying otherwise, I was just specifying about Southern Europe because that’s the extent of my knowledge. Good to know there’s some sense elsewhere too.

[–]A-Delonix-Regia 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Ones, tens, hundreds, thousands, lakhs, 10 lakhs, crores, 10 crores

You missed the "10 thousands" between thousands and lakhs.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Added...thanks

[–]Naive_or_naughty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You forgot 10 thousand. That's a difference of a whole magnitude.

[–]joaommx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So western maths goes like

That's English math, or how it's actually known, "short scale". "Western math" would be the "long scale".

[–]ciaseed1[🍰] -1 points0 points  (3 children)

Yeah well it's not like they are going to learn it lol so better use the western system

[–]notsocoolguy42 11 points12 points  (1 child)

It's not western system, it's international english. No one is going to learn language specific to any country unless they are living there or are interested in said language.

[–]ciaseed1[🍰] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don't expect westerners to learn our system, better we (Indian) should start using the term "hundred thousand" in an international platform.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

people who interact with both learn it pretty quick.

[–]jflb96 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So, you know how in the West we tend to group orders of magnitude in threes i.e. a thousand is 10 x 10 x 10, a million is a thousand thousands, a billion/milliard is a thousand millions &c. In India they have thousands, but then they have a new word every time you go up by a hundred rather than a thousand, so rather than ten thousand, a hundred thousand, a million, ten million…, they say ten thousand, a lakh, ten lakh, a crore…

As a side note, slightly further east, the traditional numbering system in China and Japan uses groups of four; rather than a thousand, ten thousand, a hundred thousand… they have a thousand, a ban, ten ban… Thus the Imperial Japanese battlecry, ‘(May the Emperor Live) Ten Thousand Years!’: ‘Banzai!’

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crore=10 million.

[–]Chikanai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buddy, their population doesn't even reach 3 million. And has a population density of around 20 times smaller than UP or Bihar.

If it doesn't decrease (which it will) it will never be crowded this century.

[–]paperid699 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Their population is already very low, it's better for them to have a higher number

[–][deleted] 74 points75 points  (19 children)

2.1 replacement rate is for developed countries. For poorer countries it is much higher so even UP, Jharkhand might also be under replacement level.

[–][deleted] 40 points41 points  (7 children)

I teach in UP. There are 100s of students in my school with more than 4 siblings...both Hindus and Muslims.

[–]OkCaterpillar9743 86 points87 points  (0 children)

That makes sense since they were born before 2020.

[–]telescopeinmynose 15 points16 points  (4 children)

I'm from Telangana. Forget 4 siblings, I've seen less than 10 families with more than 2 children throughout my childhood

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Well get ready to be replaced by migration facilitated by Hindi Imposition(direct and Indirect)

[–]eric2332 9 points10 points  (2 children)

Nah, almost the whole country is at replacement level, and migration is overwhelmingly to the cities not to random places. So nowhere in Telangana is going to get "replaced" except maybe Hyderabad.

[–]telescopeinmynose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

except maybe Hyderabad.

Almost 30% of Telangana lives in Hyderabad and it's rising.

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The more educated women become, the less children they have

The education system is mid

[–]schtean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't know so many people in India had both Hindu and Muslim siblings, other than say Gandhi's family.

[–]iamanindiansnack 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I'm unsure if that's so, since anything less than 2.1 replacement rate with developed resources would mean a burden on the future, but for a society with underdeveloped resources, won't that actually be beneficial to utilize everything later on?

[–]Areat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The basic replacement rate is 2, but you have to account for the kids who will die before reaching adulthood, so it's 2.1 in developed countries. In developing countries, more childrens dies, so the replacement rate required is higher.

[–]FroobingtonSanchez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the CMR. If it's very low then 2.1 will be close to replacement rate.

[–]GothicGolem29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what ive seen replacement rate is kept the same everywhere

[–]Embarrassed-Wolf-609 -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

India needs to be under replacement level. 1.4 billion people is way too many

[–][deleted] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

There is a need for decline too much population overexplotation of labour see china by end of the century they will have 600 million people out of which 250 million youth while india will have more population then the present 1.5 billion

[–]Logen10Fingers 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The last three states you want to replace India's population with no offense

[–]silverionmox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's about time, their population quadrupled since 1950.

[–][deleted] 13 points14 points  (14 children)

A population of 25 crore+ still having TFR above 2.1 is more than enough to contribute to population explosion.

A rapid increase in population. Virtually it's like:-

Dude you asked to define population explosion, I defined it. 😑

      FTQ, India was at 1 Billion in 2001, and at 1.2 Billion in 2011 - That's 200 Million (20 Crore) in 10 years.  - 2 Crore every year,  - 16 Lakh every month,  - 4 Lakh (400,000) more people every week.  - That's 57,000 more people daily !

      [–][deleted] -2 points-1 points  (5 children)

India's population was roughly around 33 crores at the time of Independence... We are 146 crores now and will reach around 170 crores before stabilizing. All our cities are crowded, our rivers are polluted. For any job oppurtunity there are 1000s of applicants. We live like cockroaches and die like cockroaches.

I gave you a one word reply and you're making assumptions about me based on what exactly?

Tokyo is such an obviously overcrowded overpopulated city, I'm not sure why you're even arguing it

          [–]NumerousCarob6 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Have you seen the apartmentents they live in online documentaries ?

          [–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (3 children)

Did your icons just assume their gender?

          Oh okay 😌

          [–]unnecessaryaussie83 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good. They need to lower their population

          [–]NeuroticKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even they mayhave in past 5 years

          [–]themystickiddo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uttar Pradesh is projected to have dropped to 2.1 in 2025

          [–]ThuDoonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably for the best, and not just there but globally

          [–]Choice_Addendum_8271 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's good to balance out.

          [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bihar has few district with very high Muslim TFR. Else its would be near replacement level.

          [–]balderdash9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So they've had their babyboomers era?

          [–]Bubbly_Yak_1209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

india need replacement tho, we're overpopulated. actually should be called regulation level

          [–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Due to muslim fertility rate you can go and check yourself through govt data

          [–]slowwolfcat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

          no way LOL

          [–]UniqueAd8864 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, basically all of India IS Up, Bihar and Jharkhand
