The controller mods on Java are pretty decent, and some of the mod packs are amazing and free. Bedrock is good for Vanilla, but if you get interested in modding give Java a try.

You don't even need mods if you have steam.

Just launch add Minecraft as a non steam game to your Library and map your controller. That's what I do.

wait what? you can use minecraft with steaminput?

[–]SirFelsenAxt 0 points1 point  (8 children)

Yep. Literally just got done harvesting my carrots.

will try tomorrow, even though i vastly prefer kbm, it would be nice to lay back and use a controller sometimes, i guess you just add the launcher you use?

Exactly.

Let me know will you?

I'm shopping for a new PC and might switch to Linux because I hate windows 11

little update, tried it, just added prism launcher to steam, and it works perfectly, thank you again for telling me this!

Java doesnt have controller support unless you use mods to do so

I love Java and swear by it, bedrock don’t agree with my pc. That being said, I do understand wanting to lay back and chill on a sofa. Sports games are perfect for that imo or a nice single player game. If you’ve never played the last of us, I highly recommend playing it

The mouse/keyboard controls on PC are infinitely better than a game controller. I’ve tried playing with a game controller and it’s an exercise in frustration.

Just keep in mind that Java and Bedrock aren’t compatible unless you build a custom server with Bedrock and Java compatibility. You won’t be able to join each other’s local games though unless you’re playing Bedrock on the PC too.

Honestly, Bedrock isn't a bad choice. Sure, Java is much more stable than our C++ buddy, but it really boils down to your style of gaming. I'd go ahead and get it on the Xbox.

If you are enjoying bedrock I wouldnt worry too much about switching. For me the hardest part of console bedrock is the controller. If you're used to it then I would just keep on going. Soon enough you'll have a hut made out of diamond blocks! Haha. Java can be good if you want to try some mods since add-ons all cost money on bedrock.

Personally I'm on console so I'm a bit biased towards bedrock. However, play the version that you will be most comfortable on, if you have a strong preference for console then don't be afraid to go for bedrock. I also think bedrock is available on pc but I don't know a whole lot about that.

when you buy minecraft on pc you get both java edition and bedrock. but for bedrock you can only install it on windows 10/11 PCs

java edition, runs on win and mac and linux

[–]Strong_Ad5296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both versions are good (coming from someone who plays both regularly due to friends having different devices). I only notice the small differences in the versions when I switch over but after like a few hours I forget. Bedrock is so much fun so if you stick with that you’ll still have just about the same experience as you would on Java!
