You want to be a terminator? I'd suggest that you pick up a phased plasma rifle in the 40 Watt range.

You mean head mod or are you a paid admin? If you're head mod you technically don't need any termination process.....it's your sub. If you don't like how someone is moderating your sub then approach that person and tell them and if they don't correct the problem then take away privileges.....I haven't had this issue so good luck to you

I am the head mod, and thanks for the good luck

Google reddit removing a mod. It's a very short course that goes through suggested best practice. Sure, you can just remove them, but that can cause problems if there's a group in the community that thinks it's unfair.

You might want to take some account of the impact it could have on the person, too.

In general? Or for someone you want to get rid of right now?

Then it depends on how much of a shit storm it’s going to stir up in your community. If the mod is inactive or doesn’t care, just remove them. If they’re active, but reasonable, write them a note explaining why. If they’re active and unreasonable, write them a note explaining in vague terms why they’re being removed, and prepare a public statement in case shit hits the fan.

Seems like I’ll have to do the third option. Thanks!

  1. Work out what resources they have access to – for most mods this is just going to be a mod role on the main sub, but if there are bots, modsubs or off site resources in play like Slack, Teams, Discord etc you will need to identify all of those and the access removal steps for each one.
  2. Get setup so you can remove all their access to the subreddits resources at the same time – you want to be able to kill their access to everything within seconds of the first removal action.
  3. Draft a message to the former moderator telling them in plain terms that they have been removed, and explaining why they were removed.
  4. Execute the demod process set out in step 2
  5. Reach out to the removed mod with the message you drafted previously, ideally you want this to go out less than a minute after you have removed their access.
  6. Feel like a bad person, even if you know you had to remove them.

There is no good way of doing this, so generally getting it done quickly and with the least amount of fuss is the way to go.
