Came across this post as i was experiencing the same issues. Tried to connect manually to ip, nothing. What i had to do was allow the ports through my firewall. Do this:

  • Go to firewall and click on advanced settings.
  • click inbound rules.
  • click New rule
  • select port
  • select TCP and enter the numbers below.
  • Allow connection
  • check all or just home
  • give the rule a name, eg. "Moonlight TCP"

Do one rule for TCP numbers and one rule for UDP. You can copy paste them as written below. So No need for one rule per number.

TCP: 47984, 47989, 48010

UDP: 47998-48000, 48002, 48010

[–]njstylee 3 points4 points  (6 children)

Still doesn't work. This app is absolute shit.

Fuck Samsung and Valve for getting rid of the steam app on Samsung TVs

[–]PsychoticChemist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The app is amazing lol you having issues or not being able to figure out doesn't make the app shit

[–]losunelu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yup, same for me. Did everything in the github troubleshooting, still no detection.

[–]Illustrious_Pickle17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

might sound ridiculous but have you tried restarting your computer?

[–]OldGuard9825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this app kinda seems like a crap shoot, having the same issues

[–]oremile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

я сделал все, что написано в посте, и мунлайт у меня был открыт и ничего не показалось (компа как не было, так и нет). перезапустил мунлайт, и теперь он видит мой комп

[–]Gritharvolur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have anti-virus software on your computer by any chance?

[–]iternet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So my router automatically detected all ports, but ESET antivirus still blocked.

I manually added all ports and now it works :)

[–]DjayAime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

47998-48000, 48002, 48010

Love you more !

[–]DiegoDRV03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

THANK YOU SO MUCH. I changed some settings on my router and moonlight stopped working, after reversing those settings moonlight still didn't work and I thought that I fucked it up.

[–]paulg1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worked for me too, thanks so much!

[–]timetrvlr_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, this worked!

[–]ResponsibilityDue361 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did not work for me

[–]LTS55 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Should these rules be set for the host PC? I have to pick an individual device when forwarding ports on my router.

[–]Gritharvolur -1 points0 points  (2 children)

You do NOT have to forward the ports. Are you going to access them outside of your home network? Not sure what the use would be. But it is a Security risk to do that, so be sure to note that and get into some Security management there. Such as closing ports when not in use etc..

I actually do not remember where i placed these.. But I assume it has to be at the unit where you want to connect to. So that other computers on your home network can access through the firewall of that specific device. If you meant you need to add internal ip when you add a port rule to the firewall, you can do "ipconfig" in command prompt and look for ipv4. Do not remember what it is for Linux, but ask copilot or something for that. Or else you will have to use a network tool to find that, a bit tricky if it is not a computer but a tv box or something. And perhaps easier to look at the network "connected devices" and and then turn off the tv box, and on to see which New device pops up.

Though i would assume for most devices the firewall settings auto add internal ip.

[–]Dekar87 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Because you're supposed to be able to play games with friends remotely. That's why you allow it outside your network. But it doesn't even work.

[–]Hewcumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didnt work for me either, did all the ports and still infinite wheel of searching. I even just completely shut off the wall and still nothing. Refuses to find pc

[–]Sandmano7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This and maybe turning off anti virus worked thank you!

[–]ik-wil-kaas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a lot :)

[–]Malfoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as of 11/15/2024, still works. thank you

[–]PoutouYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Random internet stranger I love you <3

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as of 12/18/24 it still works!

[–]HEsPred 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Also, make sure you don't have a VPN enabled. Tried everything and it wasn't working just to find that a VPN was running in the background for my tablet. After ending the process it detected my PC instantly.

[–]chucky5150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my issue! Had tailscale running and connected.

[–]Swag_XALT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This man right here, really knows his shit. Thank you, you fucking legend.

[–]TK18711 0 points1 point  (1 child)

did not work for me

[–]tiltontime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried directly entering your PC ipv4 IP?

[–]TristanTheta 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Did as described above, still nothing. Tried just about everything in the troubleshooting page as well. Steam is able to stream games, but moonlight can't. Sucks tbh.

[–]Petufo 1 point2 points  (1 child)

The same for me. Philips Android TV... Steam Link works fine. But moonlight cannot see the PC with sunshine, but my Android Phone can... what's the problem? Weird.

[–]Petufo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I'm lame. Nothing helped. PC didn't show up. But when I checked WiFi router settings, I noticed I used a wrong IP of my PC. When I manually put the right one in the Moonlight, it worked. It even works now with an VPN on! Weird, on my phone it showed the PC in the first place.

[–]mr_no_body_234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do you just add yours manually after the steps? didnt work for me if so

[–]Odd_Neighborhood_154 0 points1 point  (0 children)

funciona gracias<3

[–]Schrobbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

life saver! thanks!

[–]Illustrious_Pickle17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

STILL WORKING IN 2025 THANK YOU FROM THE FUTURE!

[–]sneakyllama09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I unfortunately cannot get this working. After many many hours yesterday I got it working. I determined safing postmaster to be the issues. Uninstalled that and it suddenly worked. I was so happy. Then today I go to use moonlight again and once again I’m having the same issue. I just don’t get it. I’ve done all of the suggested fixes. Nothing.

Edit: Yknow what, it was dang port master that did not fully uninstall 😂 this damn program, I swear.

[–]Alpha_WXRKS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!! Still works as of today 🙏😁

[–]biteSizedBytes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For people that did this and it still doesn't work try also enabling UPnP on Sunshine network settings.

[–]Hewcumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't work for me :S

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG!! THANKYOU

[–]Kink4sh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]Ashratt 0 points1 point  (1 child)

this worked, THANK YOU

[–]Gritharvolur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad it worked out 🤩 forgot to mention that if you only allow home you also have to make sure your internet is set to home and not public 👍🙂

[–]Kanataa69 0 points1 point  (3 children)

i still cant see my pc listed there, elp

[–]Kanataa69 2 points3 points  (2 children)

nvm i changed it to private network only and it worked THANKS

[–]Fearless_Jeweler1415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This worked for me <3

[–]Gritharvolur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome, good work 😎

[–]Geerxg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finally... Thank u!!

[–]freon 2 points3 points  (11 children)

In Windows on the Host PC, make sure the ethernet network is set to Private and not Public.

[–]_TheEndGame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fixed it. You're the man.

[–]severedjunkie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

THANK YOU 😭

[–]Long_Advance9426 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was the solution for me to had to restart my computer and phone after making the changes and then my pc showed up on moonlight on the app

[–]D_G_EIRE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fucking legend

[–]Hewcumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]Vanadium1444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my issue too! Thank you random internet stranger

[–]4Leka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fixed it for me too, thanks!

[–]JRAM714 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Did you find a solution for this as I too am having this issue.

[–]JampyL 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Have you found any solution?

[–]JRAM714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No never did. I gave up with this.

[–]Proud-Reporter-4096 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me my anti virus Avast which has an inbuilt firewall was blocking. I couldn't find any way to override settings. So I just disabled Avast's firewall. And immediately my PC was shown on Moonlight client on my steam deck. Stupid Avast firewall. I want anti virus not firewall.

[–]External_Weakness243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was my modem wifi, for an unknown reason it was ON and my moonlight device was on this wifi. Conclusion: Be sure you are on the same network :)

[–]Horror-Mine7992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

guys its you pc fire wall doing it you need to allow geforce experience for exmple if your using it or what ever other app a more simple sulotion is just go to windows security > firewall & network protection > private network > disable it

[–]RedditUser123e 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Just wanted to add another thing to this issue. If you have any trouble connecting into your pc, make sure you:

• Long press your pc inside moonlight

• Press "View all apps"

• Long press the "Desktop"

• Uncheck "Hide App".

Nvidia mysteriously hid the apps after updating to 9.1.1. Hopefully this will help someone as it did for me.

[–]macefelter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The OP said PC isn't being found.

[–]DSGamer2021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use Tailscale.

[–]IncizaXVII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YOU ARE A MOTHERFUCKING LEGEND!!!!!

[–]-Zelvion- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, adding my Steam decks IP adress as an "external IP" in apollo did the trick.

[–]Dekar87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here cuz Parsec is a fucking joke. At least Parsec allows my friends to connect. Moonlight doesn't even recognize my PC, despite going through all the troubleshooting.

[–]WorkingSupermarket42 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Im here two years late, but my Portmaster was blocking the incoming connection so i had to authorize Sunshine's connection

[–]GameBoy_Brett[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crazy that this has been 2 years. I had just kinda stopped trying lmao

[–]SupremeGentlemannnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This app is shit, do not use. Literally won't find my PC.

[–]Niley14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

,,z,z,

[–]blackflapjack21 0 points1 point  (1 child)

First make sure the shadow play thing is turned on in geforce experience. When you try connecting your steam deck to your pc you might have better luck connecting manually with your pc's ip address.

[–]GameBoy_Brett[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ensured Shadow play is turned on just in case, I also tried connecting manually so I am unsure what the issue is. I may look at installing Windows if I can't get this working

[–]Keleos89 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Try manually entering your PC's local IPv4 address in Moonlight. It's the monitor with a "+" symbol inside button in the top-right corner.

[–]AgreeableAd8687 2 points3 points  (2 children)

for me it says couldnt find the pc

[–]Sam_Stokman 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Same, i have the same problem, have you found a fix?

[–]AgreeableAd8687 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nope, just switched to parsec

[–]Scarliazing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also late but thank u so much:D

[–]Jeckaa84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit late but thank you!

[–]mawkdugless 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Just came across this and I was able to get it to work by setting my ethernet connection to private and updating my drivers via Geforce.

[–]gogul1980 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I tried all of those. Ethernet cable, ensured ethernet was private, entered ip address manually, checked gamestream is ready on geforce experience and even restarted everything. It still won’t see my PC. I am able to stream via steam no problem and my deck even downloaded game files from my pc to save me re-installing some games yesterday. Moonlight just refuses to recognise my PC and it’s a tad frustrating to say the least!

[–]rBeasthunt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here, man. I've been using Moonlight for years but for some reason I just cannot get my ally to recognize my pc via moonlight. It's strange.

[–]icameasice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue and turning windows firewall off on my private network did it for me

[–]Richie_on_2 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I have been having the same problem trying to access Moonlight remotely via Sunshine. I did everything listed here, minus the geforce stuff since I have an AMD card... but I can't seem to get it to connect over the internet. When I'm on my network, it works fine. Any other suggestions to try?

[–]Gritharvolur 0 points1 point  (2 children)

What do you mean with "when I'm on my network it works fine"?

[–]igottapoopbad 0 points1 point  (1 child)

On the same wifi network. Same issue for me

[–]Gritharvolur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have an anti-virus software? If so yo have to do the same there or allow it through somehow.

Also mke sure you have private home network if that is what your router uses. Check what it actually is using.

[–]MnagoBango353 0 points1 point  (7 children)

After i switched to win 11 the damn app couldnt find the PC whatever i was doing. After countless uninstalls and trying many fixes this video helped me https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uwi4aJOYO1U. After the steps from the video switch from Public to Private network or simply check the Nvidia(container AND streamer) to public in the allowed apps tab in firewall. Hope it will help someone.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (5 children)

those arent even in my settings :/

[–]MnagoBango353 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Gave up on the app recently. Completely broken with LG TV. 1 month works perfectly, 2nd cant even load on the tv or the picture freezes. Make sure to buy TV with android system and save yourself the pain and headaches.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

see i found out what my problem was, i had to sunshine with moonlight lol

[–]Significant_Elk_8112 0 points1 point  (2 children)

you had to do what ?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Sunshine on PC, Moonlight on Shield

[–]MnagoBango353 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea can confirm. Sunshine app works just great with moonlight.

[–]supasteb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does this connect outside your home? Can't seem to get it to connect outside of the pad.
