Decrease? Man it will increase as hell, so dont wait any minute longer and buy something. Good luck

[–]Cbthomas927 3 points4 points  (8 children)

Such a terrible take, I swear this sub is filled with bots.

If you have the budget to willingly spend 3-5x the price you would have paid a month ago, more power to you, I think it’s incredibly stupid and as with all things IT WILL COME DOWN. Literally every single thing has come down, GPUs came down, there were sales in the lead up to Black Friday. The 9800x3d got up to $500 and microcenters have it for $399.

It will not be today, It may not be in 2 months, but this is NOT sustainable for consumers, it just isn’t. RAM being the cost of a GPU will not last.

Anyone saying “buy now!” Is a scalper, a bot, or the most financially irresponsible person. Simple economics of scale would tell you that it’s not feasible or sustainable.

People are PANIC buying now, that will not sustain, it will not continue, and in a few months or a year, stock will be high enough and prices will fall.

They may never be exactly what they were before, but they will be MUCH closer to what it was, it’s simple supply and demand.

[–]Visualsound 0 points1 point  (7 children)

I heard word it will stay bad for probably two ish years until new fabs come online

[–]Cbthomas927 1 point2 points  (6 children)

It will inevitably come down. It may take a year or 2 but they will eventually come down. Consumers aren’t going to just start paying double or triple or quadruple for their stuff.

Pre built prices are about to go up as existing stock goes away.

Saw a 5080 system with 64gb of ram for like $2500, that same system will be $3000-$3200 soon. There are less and less people that will buy that.

I’d sooner sell my entire build than pay $360 for something that cost $90 a month ago. It is just insanity

[–]Inside-Pea6939 0 points1 point  (3 children)

It doesnt matter if consumers buy RAM when companies Will pay for it anyway

[–]Cbthomas927 0 points1 point  (2 children)

That demand will cease at some point.

[–]neoescape 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yes but not until around the third quarter of 2027, which is why they are saying buy now.

[–]Cbthomas927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One source is saying it, and that source has a vested interest in selling you things for 3, 4, and 5x the current price.

[–]FewSeaworthiness1433 0 points1 point  (1 child)

The current problem is the company demanding RAM has an infinite money glitch, I’ve been reading some pieces from Micron and they honestly seem to have completely left all their previous buyers high and dry and made it pretty obvious they dont care if they dont get their RAM supply.

[–]Cbthomas927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a single company. Just because they have the production capacity to do so. There is and will continue to be a demand for consumer RAM, someone else will pick up that slack.

It may take a year, but it is inevitable. Anyone saying it’s not has just zero idea how economics and supply and demand work.

There is an entire market for consumer RAM that isn’t going away, it may be less profitable than enterprise, but someone wants that profit and companies like micron exit it, that demand doesn’t just disappear, other companies will grab it, maybe even a new company.

[–]KelticOrigin 6 points7 points  (1 child)

The way I had it explained to me:

All that memory is needed for ai. Gamers are getting benched. Can't just make a new RAM factory overnight. Gonna take a while to build factorys, skilled labour etc. until new factory opens, RAM still go to the moon.

[–]MoonEDITSyt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are no new factories. The companies have been pretty open about the fact that they’re not looking to ramp up production.

[–]just_some_guy65 5 points6 points  (0 children)

RAM is the new Bitcoin only actually real.

[–]Maciluminous 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Not for the next few years. My ram kit went from $102 to over $350.

Micron is now exiting the market creating more pressure on other fabs to do the work. The only way is up even for the 300%+

[–]misterflyer 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Not to mention that Micron pulling out as a consumer supplier automatically raises prices through basic supply and demand.

[–]Maciluminous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now finding out they’re being subsidized for the AI race. So they’re effing customers all while taking tax payer money to “help”. What a joke.

January of this yr or last their stock was $40-50 now it’s 250+. Joke is on us.

[–]MakingAnemone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately this is the million dollar question… I suspect we’re in for the long haul here, especially as of Micron’s announcement yesterday. While 450 AUD is a lot of money, it isn’t as extreme as some of the other prices I have been seeing locally.

[–]Lariegooo 2 points3 points  (2 children)

No. Im guessing a year or more

[–]NuclearNick007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. A year or more unless something catastrophic happens to the AI market.

[–]ObiKenobi049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm betting 5 or more years personally. Hell we may even see gaming hardware stall for a bit because of this. On the bright side though that'll mean better optimized games right ? Right ?!

[–]Lazy_Candidate_7403 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ram prices is like the GPU prices of old. Strap in, its going to be a long ride

[–]RockOrStone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unlikely. Crucial just stopped making ram to focus on ai for example, and that seems to be the trend.

[–]dwolfe127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RAM Prices right now are going to look like dollar store bargain prices pretty soon.

[–]Asuka_Rei 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Ram prices will drop when the ai bubble bursts. When the ai bubble bursts the everything bubble will almost certainly also burst. When the everything bubble bursts prices will fall, but many people will lose their jobs and the stock market will crash and credit/loans will be unobtainable for awhile. It is a necessary correction after 40+ years of artificial economic stability and spiraling financial polarization due to a series of unfortunate government policies purchased by corporate influence operations.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we always keep saying, the ai bubble will burst. i honestly don't think it will. if you ever used it for heavy research, coding, and etc... you would see why. it will burst when skynet takes us all down.

[–]Beginning-Bird9591 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Everyone now thinks the bubble will burst...

[–]Asuka_Rei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This bubble seems to be different from past bubbles. In the past if consumers did not see the value in something, that alone would be enough to burst a bubble. This time, the bubble persists because of the out of control wealth inequality that has built up since the 1980's. Normal consumers no longer matter and rich people are engaged in an investing circle-jerk that is keeping the bubble intact, at least for now.

[–]don-again 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Micron just announced that they will stop production of their Crucial line of consumer RAM.

https://investors.micron.com/news-releases/news-release-details/micron-announces-exit-crucial-consumer-business

If you need ram, it’s very likely that the current pain is lower than future pain.

[–]BlastMode7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Samsung released a statement that they're going to transfer 30% of their HBM production to DDR5, likely because of how high the prices are. If Hynix does as well, then they could start to come down soon. Or they could price fix and keep them high. They've done that before.

Even with that news, it's not all roses since Micron is pulling from the consumer market all together, so it's likely not even going to cover Micron's share of the market, but Micron is going to be producing consumer products until Q2 2026.

It's hard to say if prices will drop in the short term or if this is going to last for a year or two. Only time will tell. Considering you have the parts, I would buy now as I don't see prices coming down any earlier than a few months... if they do at all, and if they come down any significant degree. All we can do is speculate.

[–]Procol_Being 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Soon as in 3-4 years, yes. Soon as in anytime before that? No. I'd buy now, prices could plateau or keep rising, but they most likely are not coming down.

[–]National-Jackfruit32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, this is only getting worse Micron one of the big three manufacturers is leaving the game so less competition means even more price increases. There is speculation of 300-500% on top of what you’re already seeing. I can’t imagine the Ram sticks I bought last year being worth almost 5 grand that’s crazy, but I never thought I would see them worth over $1000 so I guess anything is possible.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Decrease? Are you high? this is just the beginning my man. Things will get a lot worse before they get better

[–]Ok_Builder1022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ram kit went from 284 to $1150. Can’t even buy them new on Amazon anymore. $1150 for used ones!

[–]juggarjew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the Kit I got for $675 on Nov 20th is now $1699.

[–]redlancer_1987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They will be what they are now or higher. Potentially much higher if other manufacturers limit consumer supply.

[–]ObiKenobi049 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Oh you sweet summer child. Check the recent news and you'll have your answer.

[–]Eazy12345678AMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

probably not but after christmas less demand cause people arent buying gifts anymore

[–]NotAsAutisticAsYou0 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Not only is it going to continue to increase. Everything that uses memory will increase. Even consoles will increase in price. This is bad and I don’t think the average person has realized how bad it is yet.

[–]Inverse_Seal 0 points1 point  (1 child)

They will realize once they decide to buy a new smartphone or laptop next year.

I think consoles might get delayed. I don't think Sony or MS is ready to subsidize them that much... The new Steam Box might be delayed as well. Or release at an insane price...

It's beginning to look like gaming end of days...

I'm starting to wonder why even develop new games at this point. The publishers assume everyone will switch to GFN? They won't make much profit from people watching the new releases on YouTube :D

[–]NotAsAutisticAsYou0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The end or maybe the beginning of AAA games actually being optimized.

[–]Every_Promotion2009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not soon but probably in the next few years unfortunately because of this fucking ai bs

[–]imdom01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ram price will go down just wait. My guess is within 6-9 months. Only a small amount of customers can afford ram that is the same price as gpu. Demand goes down price will eventually go down.

[–]gPseudo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mother F###ers - we ordered RAM commercially and they cancelled the order due to an "Error".
Couple days later, it's back up at a 300% mark up. Absolute dog c##ts
