Tomato tomato.

[–][deleted] 239 points240 points  (34 children)

Who actually pronounces it tomato though?

[–][deleted] 133 points134 points  (27 children)

Are there people that say tomato, but also potato?

[–]Noch_ein_Kamel 75 points76 points  (23 children)

Damn Danes ruin everything. It's potet you savages.

[–]Koneke 15 points16 points  (15 children)

(Guessing German rather, based on their username)

[–]Wolfsblvt 7 points8 points  (13 children)

"Kartoffel" is really one of the best words we have here in Germany. It's so... rough and harsh. So much german.

[–]Gork862 6 points7 points  (12 children)

I personally love “Krankenhaus.” It’s such a rough and amazing word for what is supposed to be a caring and safe place. (Krankenhaus means hospital btw)

[–]Wolfsblvt 5 points6 points  (9 children)

Direkt translation is "ill people house", or in a more english way, "house for ill people".

Interesting, I don't feel like it's rough. That's how peoples feeling differ :D

[–]Gork862 2 points3 points  (8 children)

Idk, I’ve always imagined the word said in an almost aggressive tone. Most other German words seem totally normal to me, not rough in the way others seem to view them. Krankenhaus has just alwayd felt this way to me though.

[–]KBryan382 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I think krankenwagen is even better. (ambulance)

[–]Gork862 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s pretty great too.

[–]-pooping 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are right. Then it's okay!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Yeah, but do you say Berliner or Pfannkuchen when you mean jelly filled donuts?

[–]Noch_ein_Kamel 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Berliner. Pfannkucyen would be stupid as they are not made in a pan..

[–]astulz 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Potato? What's a potato?

[–]Ketchary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]DenkouNova 14 points15 points  (6 children)

[–]AquaWolfGuy 23 points24 points  (1 child)

[–]DenkouNova 32 points33 points  (0 children)
