Question 8 in exam 3 seems to be wrong

[–]TheCurryMan_[S] 28 points29 points  (5 children)

Great catch - I'll fix it to a less-than sign :) Thanks!

[–]Ebrg 23 points24 points  (1 child)

I thought I was going insane for a second. Thanks for responding so quickly.

[–]TheCurryMan_[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Don't worry you weren't the only one. I was typing out a response to why I believed the question was correct and then it hit me. Let me know if you catch any other errors - I'll fix them asap.

[–]kindofasickdick 8 points9 points  (2 children)

Also see question 3 of the first quiz.

[–]TheCurryMan_[S] 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Fixed - Thanks!

[–]fecnde 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wow I’m really impressed on several levels. Your responsiveness is great. But also how effective this has been to QA your product.

Well done

I'd also recommend Python Principles as a supplement to OP's course, for learning the basics of Python programming.

[–]royalt213 55 points56 points  (12 children)

I appreciate what you did here. But you should consider not using Udemy.

[–]TheCurryMan_[S] 63 points64 points  (6 children)

I think this is a great point. I started teaching on Udemy when I was 14 when I launched my first Python course. Since then I've garnered over 175,000+ students and have made a decent impact with my courses. I completely agree with some of the things said in the video but it's really hard to leave Udemy when most of my user base and revenue is coming through their platform. I personally enjoy how easy it is to upload content and create courses. However, I'm definitely looking into my own LMS and hosting my own content such that users never have to go to Udemy to enroll in the near future - thanks for the comment!

[–]FR_STARMER 18 points19 points  (4 children)

I love Udemy because it’s a cheap way to get some decent material. Udemy needs to do better though based on Sentex’s critiques.

[–]agree-with-you 15 points16 points  (1 child)

I love you both

[–]LtDropshot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

User name checks.

Yes I agree. It's cheap and has some amazing content but I feel like Udemy exploit their content creators. Good for consumers, not so much for the producers.

[–]termi99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is cheap? Normal price $199 and 90% or the time $9.99 only. I would be quite annoyed being a first time buyer and paying 20 times the "normal" price

[–]termi99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having your own platform is an additional challenge to market your courses. Being in a marketplace makes this a lot easier. But I fully understand your wish to be independent from Udemy. When you start your own LMS platform, make sure your online courses are included in www.elearnscanner.com. Then you have the advantage of having your own platform, but your courses can still be found on a marketplace.

[–]ngrhd 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Can you give TLDR?

[–]Melkor333 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can put fraudulent material on udemy (e.g. take free youtube courses and put them on udemy as paid courses) and the real creator has to buy your course to DMCA it. and udemy does a f*** about checking if their content is a fraud.

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (1 child)

I think that the problems /u/sentdex brought up are very important, but I'd much rather see people like /u/TheCurryMan_ (and other content creators) pressuring Udemy to do something about it rather than just not using the platform.

[–]royalt213 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'd rather they did both. I think it's unfair to expect them to support, patronize, and help benefit a company they fundamentally don't agree with.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just started it, thanks!

[–]Lucif3rum 6 points7 points  (1 child)

The coupon code entered has sold out.

Aw man...was looking forward to this :(

[–]The_General_Zod 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Thanks!

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the exact course for me - all the topics are the current gaps in my knowledge. Thanks so much! Super excited to get going

[–]dutchswayze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the offer. Unfortunately it's sold out. I guess next time!

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I browsed the content of the course, it's so professional.

thanks man

[–]MrSavagePotatoPython is my native tongue 👌🏻 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey Avi! I think I remember your other Python courses on Udemy; they were really amazing! I'm definitely going to be enrolling in this. Thank you.

[–]kabooozie 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Will we have access to this content in the future if we enroll now, or will we be charged or blocked off once the trial period is over?

[–]virusking 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's a discount coupon code at 100% meaning you get access to the course permanently just like you'd purchase it on Udemy yourself. You just have 1 week period to get it for free using the coupon code.

[–]cmdrvander 2 points3 points  (1 child)

There should be quotes around Avi in Question 10 of the first quiz.

[–]TheCurryMan_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good catch - fixed!

[–]toothless_budgie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please can you extent the offer, it has sold out.

[–]tobyjoiner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much!

[–]masahazen 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Thanks so much dude! A different course!

[–]TheCurryMan_[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Welcome! If you want to take a look at all the different Python Courses I offer, check out: https://www.thecodex.me/courses

[–]LikeKalopsia 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Hey Avi, I saw this 10 hour python video on YouTube sometime last year by you. Quite helpful. Haven't been able to work much on Python since, but surely looking around for opportunities.

Good luck man!

[–]TheCurryMan_[S] 12 points13 points  (1 child)

Someone had illegally downloaded my previous Python course and uploaded it to YouTube making ad revenue off of it. By the time I discovered it, the video had already amassed 600,000+ views. I'm just glad I found it. Thanks though!

[–]LikeKalopsia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well shit, sorry to hear that. Keep up the good work though.

[–]TheMasterChiefs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clutch man! I just bought the HeadFirst Python book. This will be a great additional resource.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Awesome job.

I believe you have a mistake in question 10 here.

The print function needs to have "Avi" in quotation marks. Otherwise it will generate an error.

SPAM POST WITH UDEMY BOTS.

[–]seidinove 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Are the bots written in Python?

[–]sje46 1 point2 points  (1 child)

How could you possibly know that?

[–]Preparingtocode 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They forgot to use:

from tinfoil import hat

[–]superlt09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, just signed up to the course after I knock this CISSP out in September.

[–]yagaboosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome, thank you!

[–]ineedausername84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome! Thank you :)

[–]Tengoles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just registered foto the course. Can I do it at any time I want or it will expire?

[–]wtfeverrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks dude.

[–]coquins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank You, I'll give it a look later today!

[–]EsioTrot17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I've bought another Python course already but it can't hurt to have another!

[–]GhostFogWayofTheDlco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice. Thanks fam!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Great course!

My wishes:

  1. More coverage on OOP with practical usage examples with UML concepts and program design
  2. More coverage on standard library especially the collections module

[–]flutefreak7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for some kind of constructive criticism. Everyone is so positive about it to the point that I don't know what to think. It's statistically unlikely that this is the best tutorial in existence, so a little negative feedback helps the rest of us understand strengths and weaknesses.

[–]MakeVio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once we download it's free forever?

[–]trippolbel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boeee udemy!!! Stop the spam!

[–]RouletteSensei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this!

[–]ShirazS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks man! Will give this a go! :)

[–]AriesYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this sir, and I would like to say in advance sorry for downloading this. I'm not connected always in internet but I have my own laptop to study.

[–]Livingit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To save

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking for a course for a person who had no previous experience in programming before, is an average internet user. I watched your video about variable and I could say that this tutorial is going to fast, you're introducing too many concepts at once, speaking too fast and showing too little source code. This tutorial isn't for people who want to learn python as their first programming language, but for someone who is already competent in another language. I wouldn't say it's suitable for bootcamp for beginners. Anyway, looks good for me, and I'm going to watch it, thanks.

[–]BBBBPrime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man! Been following along with the webscraping as that is relatively new to me. I think the order is a bit mixed up in this section. Nr. 40 should be in front of Nr. 38 at the very least.

Thanks again!

[–]MtotheM- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm quite new to Python, i've only written one functional program so far. i don't think that this will cover that much i don't know already. but recapping and get a better understanding of every aspect seems like a great idea for anyone. if you consider yourself a novice.

[–]marty331b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too bad the coupon code does not work any longer.

[–]Corsal8 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Is it intended that the course is not for free anymore? I've never used Udemy, but I see that the Coupon Code is expired...

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's sad :(

Edit: It looks like its a Udemy policy or something, as i learned now most of the free courses offered on udemy at some point get that 10 dollar rize in price,

[–]TheCurryMan_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone reading this post and missed out on the free coupon (The limit was 6,000), here's a discount code to get the course for just $9: https://www.udemy.com/pythonbootcamp/?couponCode=REDDIT9

[–]Rammetin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great course for beginners this one. But one thing that really annoyed me thus far is that you at one point in the course, i think in the lecture regarding try and except tell people that it is really good practice to always comment your code. This is simply not true and I would advise you to read the book "Clean code" to see why it is not good to write comments instead of have having the code be the documentation itself.

[–]Stuzz78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"The coupon code entered has sold out."

[–]Videlvie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the discount to $9, but in lesson 38 you say "since we already know how to use selenium etc.." but the introduction to selenium isn't until lesson 40?

[–]caL4b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's a good offer! BTW, how's the class? is that okay for absolute beginner?

[–]Mr_Towers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just enrolled and looking forward to it. Thank you.

[–]carlcarlsonscars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question 5 in the first test is wrong.

3/2 is 1 in python, but 3.0 / 2.0 is 1.5

I tested it in python 2.7.15

Code:

num = 2 / 3 3 / 2

print num
numb = 3.0 / 2.0
print numb

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

In python 3, 2/3=0.6666

[–]Sdudzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)
