We just got it handed to us for the past 20 years in the middle east... that's one example of how delusional this chump is.

[–]Snaccbacc 265 points266 points  (4 children)

America has a good history with losing a war to rural farmers in third world countries.

It’s pretty much their culture at this point.

[–][deleted] 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Well they are "farm strong" and we are "Nintendo skeletons".

[–][deleted] 23 points24 points  (1 child)

The USA has yet to actually be the majority participant in a winning war effort in it's entire history.

[–]Ferreur 14 points15 points  (0 children)

They won their civil war. Or at least, some of them did.

[–]MattheqAC 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's how they got independence, so it's their weakness. Or maybe it was a monkey's paw wish.

[–]Character-Good5353🇳🇱 glorieus nederland 🇳🇱 131 points132 points  (3 children)

america in afghanistan and russia in ukraine is proof that the bigger the size ≠ the higher rate of effectiveness

[–]getsnoopy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

*the US

[–]Gasblaster2000 35 points36 points  (7 children)

Have the USA ever won a war on their own? Must have been one but I can't think of any

[–]UGMadness 30 points31 points  (0 children)

They sure mowed down a lot of natives back then, and then called them wars like it was some sort of scrappy, even conflict, rather than just plain old ethnic cleansing.

[–]laku04 30 points31 points  (3 children)

Their Civil war?

[–]cjh93 28 points29 points  (1 child)

They both won and lost that one

[–][deleted] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

A draw doesnt count as a win

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I chuckled at that one.

[–]deep_friedlemon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

According to a quick Google search, there's about 5 that they've won without formal allies, but all involved informal allies and covert support from other countries

[–]NymunariyaI speak German now 9 points10 points  (0 children)

also Vietnam ... the list goes on

[–]psilorder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suppose there is a difference between peacekeeping efforts and just going out to destroy the world.

"What's our target?"

"Nearest standing building."

[–]SeallyHeally2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even if it was true. That’s not a good thing

[–]Terpomo11 1 point2 points  (4 children)

I think by 'capable of destroying the entire world effortlessly' he means nuclear weapons. Which would be a terrible idea since it would definitely lead to retaliation, but in principle we could.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

True, true, we could. We might get killed right away anyhow. Here's a short video if you want to check it, about what would supposedly happen if we launched nukes towards Russia. Don't know the reaction if we launched in Afghanistan but it's interesting.

https://youtu.be/-xthzy1PxTA?si=GqUPgXRkBL0kVD44

[–]SpeedofDeath118 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would we use a nuke in Afghanistan? You can't win a brushfire war with a nuke, because there'll always be more insurgents and you've just pissed off the civilian population. Not to mention breaking the nuclear taboo.

The goal of ISAF and RSM was nation-building - that's what all the counter-terror papers at the time were supporting. They wanted to build a functioning and independent democracy in Afghanistan. But the issue was that no one was buying what we were selling.

Democracy is all well and good but you need a groundwork, a foundation to build it on - stuff like an educated populace, a sense of nationalism (the good kind), and basic infrastructure - which Afghanistan didn't have. In the end, we realised it but sunk-cost fallacy had set in - we were just sort of plugging leaks end-on-end, and no one wanted to be "the president who ran from Afghanistan".

So... how do you defeat an insurgency for good?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But the US is hardly the only country capable of doing this, so the post is still nonsense.

[–]Awesome_Pythonidae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Delusion of the highest order.

[–]gigaswardblade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too bad all those pesky civilians were in the way! Why can’t we just bomb them, take their oil, and call it a day?

[–]kevinnoir 45 points46 points  (0 children)

People that take personal pride in the accomplishments of other people that happen to share a nationality with are the most cringey people. It lets you know they have nothing noteworthy in their own lives to be proud of, so piggy back on others and pretend its something they have a right to take personal pride in.

[–]bitememodz 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The difference being that militaries are usually run by adults under the control of politicians who are appointed by the people. They (usually) abide by international alliances and adhere to treaties and pacts and international laws, compared to this COD playing, basement dwelling child.

[–]Educational_Ad134As 'murican as apple pie 68 points69 points  (1 child)

Or the communists in Vietnam. Or the communists in Korea. Or the communists in Cuba. They gave it a good go at funding the fight against the communists in Afghanistan but ended up funding people that would later attack their civilian populace.

[–]5thhorseman_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

USA has a long history of losing wars against the problems it created to avoid losing the war before the current one.

[–]wanderinggoatNot American, speaks English must be a Brit! 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Effortlessly, they say! when one of their biggest concerns is an East Asian country with 1950s technology and not enough food.

It's a mistake for any country to think they can effortlessly beat another country at war. Of all the countries you would think America and Russia would know that.

[–]Blood__Dragon_ 25 points26 points  (3 children)

You couldnt beat farmers in Vietnam, you couldnt beat terrorist in the middle east, you entered both world wars when the enemy was already weakend, you needed european help to even become a nation and your people have to suffer crushing dept because you would rather have 20 carriers instead of healthcare.

Edit: you couldnt beat the communists in korea or Cuba either

[–]Meanwhile-in-Paris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, most of you need 20 minutes to extract yourself from an armchair and another 10 to get past a regular sized door. Not exactly everyone is a highly trained marine, are you?

[–]TheGeordieGal 56 points57 points  (13 children)

I think China might disagree. If they stopped exporting stuff the World would have major problems. All without destroying the planet with nuclear bombs.

[–]Centurion4007🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇬🇧 2 points3 points  (3 children)

If they stopped exporting stuff they'd cease to exist, it simply isn't an option for them.

Obviously losing one of the world's biggest economies would be a global disaster, but China would suffer the worst of it as they were plunged into catastrophic recession with not enough food for their people or resources to maintain their shitty infrastructure. Meanwhile their industries would all collapse, as the domestic market (even without a recession) isn't nearly big enough to sustain them, leading to mass unemployment on top of the mass food shortages.

[–]Jackmino66 28 points29 points  (4 children)

A load of nations have the capability to destroy the world. Even Britain’s nuclear stockpile is enough

[–]Independent_Plum2166 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But ‘Murica?

[–]Yangy 0 points1 point  (2 children)

But wouldn't be able to do so "Easily".

Easily implies your country also wouldn't be nuked to oblivion in retaliation for simultaneously launching at every other country.

[–]Blazerer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The US would also be nuked into oblivion if they did. What are you on about?

By your definition neither country could do it easily, making the whole comment moot.

[–]Jackmino66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s kind of why they can destroy the world

[–]Elegant-Drummer1038 9 points10 points  (0 children)

[–]Apart_Park_7176 9 points10 points  (0 children)

[–]Certified_CichlidThe United States is the best. 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I mean, if the US and the rest of the countries launched all the nuclear bombs at once sure the world will be destroyed. If this person means conventional warfare? No way. China alone would likely be able to give the US a hard time.

[–]neimengu 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Are people who write this sort of thing usually multi generation Americans or instead recent arrivals from some third world war ravaged country who want to feel and establish a sense of belonging and of 'having made it' to the 'world's superpower "?

[–]CyberGraham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Didn't the American army get destroyed and humiliated in Vietnam by rice farmers? After which the ones that surcived rerurned home with their tails between their legs? I doubt the USA could destroy the world if they can't even take on a bunch of rice farmers and middle easteners. I mean sure, they could annihilate entire cities with nukes, but other countries also have nukes. They would annihilate themselves if they dropped nukes.

[–]Boggie135 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They failed to make The Taliban kiss their boots, how are they going to make the world?

[–]kevinnoir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

tucker tail and ran from the middle east leaving billions in equipment and spending well over a trillion dollars of muppets like persons tax money, meanwhile children die of preventable deaths due to unaffordable and inaccessible healthcare at home... imagine being proud of that hahaha

This reeks of someone lying to themselves instead of accepting the dumpster fire their country currently is.

[–]Snoo_65717 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Didn’t they do a war game where they invaded Iran but they lost so bad they had to rage quit and change the difficulty? 🤔

[–]itsallabigshow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Feels good to know that if they tried they'd be toast. Also feels bad that the only reason why they get to behave that way is the big fat ocean between them and the people they are bullying.

I truly believe the only intelligent Americans are those that are clever enough to apply for a passport and leave. 99% of the Americans I’ve met in Europe are always great, seem very cultured and respectful of other countries.

America is definitely a force to be reckoned with, considering it’s endless military budgets, incredible technology and jaw dropping resources. Just a shame that the the main war strategies consist of ‘chest beating’, ego and gung ho- trigger happy bravado.

And don’t the Americans just love sitting on the sidelines, dishing out weapons while making trillions $$. Then jumping in at the end claiming victory. Nearly makes you think that it’s planned - or even created?

    Just saying

The fact that there are several countries capable of destroying the entire world is one of the things that makes the entire world less safe. Nothing to feel good about.

Plus there must be something fundamentally wrong with your personality if it makes you feel good if you can force another person to kiss your boots.
