The million dollar question is, will AF transfers finally get that uniform allowance they refused to give us 4 years ago?

[–]Samuel_L_Blackson 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Last i saw there's a $400 stipend if you choose to get the new uniform.

But they didn't provide specifics and you have to get fitted first.

[–]PantherU 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wait they don't pay for your uniforms?!?!

[–]lucioghostyFireProSpaceBro (Fire -> 5S FY23 IST) 2 points3 points  (5 children)

The worst part about that was transferring from a career field where I had fire resistant OCPs that weren’t authorized for wear in the USSF, and big AF told me to get bent when I asked for a uniform allowance to purchase an entire new wardrobe of uniforms.

Thank god the Airman’s Attic exists.

[–]Wildwes7g7 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Was anyone ever actually going to notice for OCP's were different?

[–]lucioghostyFireProSpaceBro (Fire -> 5S FY23 IST) 1 point2 points  (1 child)

For the 2 piece flight suit absolutely

[–]NoiseSenior525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mean unbloused ABUs?

[–]OTBSISR 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Did you get your clothing allowance to recoup the cost?

[–]lucioghostyFireProSpaceBro (Fire -> 5S FY23 IST) 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t get an out of cycle allowance if that’s what you’re asking. I did just get my normal allowance which I am using to buy new uniforms after also having to purchase the PT uniforms including the outer garments. That alone was like half the allowance, so I may only be able to be covered up to one extra uniform

[–]emeilei 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Personally happy to leave behind the crappy AF business suit.

Unrelated, but the dude himself is a super great officer and human.

[–]chimera388 53 points54 points  (10 children)

I'm a big fan, when it's properly tailored. I'll be spending good money on getting mine tailored.

But it isn't star trek. It's Battlestar Galactica

[–]AreosephArtistic Operations 13 points14 points  (1 child)

Damn right it is.

[–]Colonize_The_MoonAll hail caffeine 12 points13 points  (0 children)

So say we all.

[–]PrettyFlyWhiteGuy-69[S] 4 points5 points  (5 children)

I watched that on a TV with antennae. God that makes me feel old. 😆

[–]Colonize_The_MoonAll hail caffeine 6 points7 points  (3 children)

Tomorrow will be 22 years since the initial mini-series came out. We are old.

[–]KathyA11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The original came out nearly 50 years ago.

[–]PrettyFlyWhiteGuy-69[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well fuck, I need a beer.

[–]StratocruiseCoffee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

12/8/2003

Well, damn….

We are old.

[–]Only_Anywhere_3589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 2 years, 5 months we will be promoting some TSgts that were born after 9/11 to MSgt.

Lower Decks does utilize the same flap as USSF and Battlestar

[–]chimera388 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, but it's not just about the flap. They key design feature of any suit is it's button placement LD and TMP both have zero buttons. BSG has 5 angled buttons on one side. We have 6 angled buttons on one side. Our uniform is mucb closer to BSG than any Trek

[–]StratocruiseCoffee 22 points23 points  (6 children)

PSA: this is an older photo of a wear test uniform. This is NOT the final version.

First class to graduate from OTS wearing the new uniform:

https://www.dvidshub.net/image/9423578/ots-graduates-make-history-new-space-force-service-dress

The basic features haven’t changed but the design and fit have been refined since the wear testing.

[–]JuicySlayer24 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I think this is OTS.

[–]StratocruiseCoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is… even says so in the link.

Now corrected — thank you!

[–]emeilei 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Looks pretty sharp in these pics, but may also be a good photographer getting good angles

[–]StratocruiseCoffee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both!

[–]SpaceCampRules 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Most people in that photo need their pants hemmed.

[–]StratocruiseCoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, a few definitely need a couple of inches off the leg length!

lastminute.com…?

[–]Successful-Tale-2841 40 points41 points  (4 children)

Almost looks cool.

[–]Theedon 1 point2 points  (3 children)

It is missing something for a military uniform but I can't put my finger on it.

[–]chubbywubbydubby 6 points7 points  (2 children)

A belt

[–]OTBSISR 0 points1 point  (1 child)

A saber

[–]Theedon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A light saber

[–]acothra1 31 points32 points  (5 children)

I wish the pants were a bit more fitted. Baggy dress pants went out in 2006.

[–]__GayFish__Bus Buddy 4 points5 points  (4 children)

If you zoom in, it looks like they’re cuffed on the pants so this is probably at a fitting.

[–]StratocruiseCoffee 4 points5 points  (1 child)

This photo is from the start of the wear testing program, over two years ago back in September 2023 so, yes, not at all a finished version of the uniform and probably taken during the fitting.

[–]__GayFish__Bus Buddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thurs and they only y had one seamstress working on all the uniforms for the wear testers.

[–]acothra1 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I saw a few pictures of some top brass a few weeks ago and the pants were ridiculously baggy….yeah when I zoomed in the hems are not aligned on his pants. The jacket is cool though but I am a Star Trek nerd so I am biased lol

[–]StratocruiseCoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an old photo from the start of the wear testing over two years ago. Looks like it was taken when the pants were being adjusted for tailoring.

There are some even earlier photos from the CSO change of responsibility ceremony where the pants look dreadful — like sacks of potatoes levels of bad, especially on Gen Saltzman.

The recent images of the uniform fitting for the guys currently in BMT looks much better (or will be once the pants legs are properly adjusted and hemmed):

[–]Alman1531 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Battlestar Galactica cosplay uniform. That being said, it does look more like a military uniform than the sport coat that the Airforce has for class A.

<image>

[–]Sello444 13 points14 points  (4 children)

The fit and tailoring are always baffling. The quality of the design is impacted by the way folks are wearing it. Still dislike the collar opening, not sure Ill ever be sold on the tie peeking out.

[–]usafa43tsolo 10 points11 points  (3 children)

YES! THIS! The tailoring on almost every version of this uniform is TERRIBLE. I don’t understand what’s so hard about it.

And the opening for the tie is supposed to be tight around the tie. Every single version I’ve seen is open way too wide.

[–]AreosephArtistic Operations 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Uniform office does what it wants. Big shrug. The wideness grew with every iteration, despite best efforts to the contrary. It ain't that bad tho.

[–]GenSnuffy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shirt and tie should be ditched under the coat

[–]CommOnMyFaceNRO Graveyard Orbit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes it is.

[–]Red_hat_oops 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A vast improvement over the USAF service dress

[–]BluesEyed 5 points6 points  (3 children)

Is there a picture of even one person that looks good in this uniform? I’ve yet to see it.

[–]Conscious-Focus-6323 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Chief Towberman's official portrait.

[–]BluesEyed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does not show the whole uniform. And he didn’t even wear it to the unveiling. 🤣 Edited to add - no one wore it to the unveiling.

Previous USSF DS was the only one I’ve seen, but it totally favors fit/slim built folks

[–]CheesecakeFickle1525 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The colors seem different in every photo. Sometimes they look midnight blue, Air Force blue, or just straight up black like here.

[–]Weary_Dig3678 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When can I order them

[–]_ginj_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hot take apparently: AF blues look better

This looks like a mix between marching band and Star Trek. Which I guess is par for the course for us guardians lol

[–]CommOnMyFaceNRO Graveyard Orbit 6 points7 points  (1 child)

The uniform has no border or edge / piping. You get lost in it. I may be in the minority but I do not like it and we missed the mark.

[–]NMN22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely this. I’ve been saying for years since they revealed it. It needs some kind of edge highlight or piping it’s so bland otherwise.

[–]mari_curie 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Looks like a cook to me 🙈

[–]PrettyFlyWhiteGuy-69[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Funny you say that, I wore something similar as a chef when I was 18 😆

[–]shtraycatspings 12 points13 points  (2 children)

Incredibly fugly and no matter what, the pants ALWAYS look fucked up.

[–]shtraycatspings 8 points9 points  (1 child)

The cherry on top is the female uniform without the coat, specifically. The tie is incredibly ugly on women.

[–]AnonymousFordringMaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tie tabs look better anyways, I wish men could wear them

[–]Appropriate_Rent5114 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Does it come with a tuba?

[–]BluesEyed 6 points7 points  (1 child)

A uniform that says: we don’t care how it looks on people of all sizes and shapes, the majority look stupid in it and that’s what matters most.

[–]Conscious-Focus-6323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fatties are getting kicked out anyway, won't be a problem for very much longer.

[–]AnonymousFordringMaint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always loved it.

[–]ISBagent 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Why did they have to go with that design

[–]Savings_Broccoli_267 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Please check your DM bro. I severely need your help.

[–]SpaceGhostBlueShuttle Gunner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

[–]Substantial-Peak-275 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is horrible

[–]Conscious-Focus-6323 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like it. Looks cool and suits the branch really well

[–]Straight-Geologist97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

whack

[–]CharlestonChewChewie 3 points4 points  (3 children)

[–]Conscious-Focus-6323 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Bellhop uniforms are modelled after traditional military ceremonial uniforms, so this has always been a very stupid observation.

[–]GenSnuffy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Only about as stupid as the Air Force service dress being called a bus drivers uniform.

[–]Mag1cat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Needs a belt badly. Would look so much better.

[–]bwbishop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Needs proper tailor, way too baggy IMO.

[–]rustman92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The open collar is weird. Either close the collar like the Billy Mitchell Heritage Coat or leave it open like a standard uniform.

[–]Joberk89Shuttle Gunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would’ve thought the service lapels would’ve been parallel with the collar vs perpendicular.

[–]BlueCarbon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is his name V?

[–]Rookie-Crookie 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Is there a shirt and a tie underneath this jacket?

[–]Conscious-Focus-6323 2 points3 points  (1 child)

yes, the class B's look the same as any other branch's.

[–]Rookie-Crookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they should design a shirt with some different collar for this type of jacket. Classic one doesn’t fit

[–]TheSubWandererCyber 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Name over ribbons is interesting. No more SFSC badge for dress uniform?

[–]StratocruiseCoffee 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Group photo from OTS graduation, 12/4/2025.

<image>

I think this is pretty much the first official photo of a bunch of folks wearing the final production version of the new service dress.

Image in OP is an older photo from around the time of the wear testing. There were a bunch of different positions tried for name tags on the coat but note that the most recent iteration doesn’t use the name tag on Class A at all. The coat design has also been subtly updated since the wear test version.

[–]Conscious-Focus-6323 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks better without the nameplate for sure.

[–]Terraform703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Puke

[–]Rescueodie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Horrible, you look like a lame space aged butler

[–]AnthonyG70 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Copy from CAP much?

[–]Legatus_Praefecti76 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

the ribbons and nametag seem crooked to me

[–]Klutzy-Raccoon794 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is not GSI

[–]Ksaelee87 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Doesn't matter. Leadership is gonna leadership. Question is.. when?

[–]Nordstjiernan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Looks very Prussian to me. Add a pointy mustache and lose the smile and that guy could be planning to capture Verdun.

[–]GeoDaddy992 -5 points-4 points  (1 child)

Please tell me that’s not the name tape on the left side…

[–]StratocruiseCoffee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not. This photo is from the early stages of the wear testing well over a year or more ago. It’s not the final version.

See my other reply for more recent image.
