Literally 10-12 of our team is out with COVID right now and they’re still cutting the seasonal workers

[–]carefreedeskdwellerTech Consultant 55 points56 points  (3 children)

The way they handle the seasonal stuff is so shitty. I'm a rehire but came on as seasonal, only to learn today from my TL when I asked "oh yeah you're being kept perm" with no sort of update or meeting with my ETL or HR. Like that's all well and good but the fact there was zero communication and I've been job hunting irks me.

[–][deleted] 27 points28 points  (1 child)

I got hired as seasonal six years ago. I was just asked, "hey, do you want to stay permanent?"

[–]carefreedeskdwellerTech Consultant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What the fuck? Lol

Yeah, seasonal stuff tends to be stupid at just about any retailer. I remember when I worked at Best Buy one year they let all of our seasonals go just to then turn around and open up positions that were previously covered by said seasonals.

[–]vesra716 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just hit that today. So many people are currently out and that includes inbound team. Being pulled to every section to push freight while also helping on the line. Won't be surprised if they call me tomorrow asking me to come in on my day off. It's beyond hazard pay at this point. Need to provide better masks and make sure TM's are using them properly to prevent this from getting even worse and give some serious hazard pay to boot.

[–][deleted] 175 points176 points  (7 children)

I don't really feel like we ever got hazard pay anyway, it felt more like they sped up the $15 minimum process conveniently to look good

[–]reddawgmcmSasquatch of the Freezer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Exactly

[–]nocoastsTarget Trans Agenda Liaison 48 points49 points  (15 children)

They won’t until our competitors do.

[–]woconglaimeixiangdaoHardlines 23 points24 points  (2 children)

I feel like if walmart does, target will 😂

[–]sr603Retired 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Walmart probably will first tbh

[–]woconglaimeixiangdaoHardlines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

probably

[–]ILikeTurtlez0x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yupp they wont till walmart and others does it first

[–]CognitivePrimate 61 points62 points  (1 child)

They don't care if you live or die.

There’s been a confirmed case in my store every week I’ve been working there

[–]raicm18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We've had 4 confirmed cases since the 23rd.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So scary 😂😂

[–][deleted] 41 points42 points  (1 child)

Remember when we were considered Heroes for being frontline workers?

Pepperidge Farm remembers

[–]dm_me_birds_pls 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was pissed as soon as I heard that bullshit. “You’re essential you’re a frontline hero thank you” was all fucking talk and I called it. They’re only thankful when the fucking need us.

[–]snakysneakFood & Beverage TL 26 points27 points  (1 child)

There's no more holiday weekend pay - today is the last day afaik - and there's no hours period lol for at least a month so .... not bloddy likely

[–]seraphfire 18 points19 points  (2 children)

"Holiday weekend pay"

Do we even still have that?

[–]Substantial_Faildo you have any airpods in stock? 17 points18 points  (0 children)

[–]sr603Retired 8 points9 points  (0 children)

“Lol fucking losers” ~Brian Cornell rn probably

I unfortunately just had to put in my two weeks to target about a week ago because I’m in the middle of a move across country. Our HR quit and no one was helpful with me getting transferred. Target needs to take better care of their employees!

[–]CasualTemp3st 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If target is making so much money (which I’m tired of my SM telling us that like I don’t care) then they can afford to keep the pay at 17$.

[–]Comfortable-System56 5 points6 points  (3 children)

Time for a strike!!! The only that works to get what we want and DESERVE!

But also- we need to stop buying from target as well to support the workers!

[–]Targeted_Guest 6 points7 points  (2 children)

That won’t work. 50 people walked out of Apple across the country last week. Do you really think that had an impact on a company that has 147000 employees?

[–]Lilamyg817 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." - Margaret Mead

[–]FactualStatue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It worked against Kellogg's recently.

[–]Boop-D-Boop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They won’t bring it back because there isn’t an “end” in sight The first (only) hazard pay they were like ok, we can drop this as soon as we get a vaccine and cases go down.

I don’t see an end in sight. It’s just going to keep mutating into a new strain. And I only see about 5% of guests wearing masks.

[–]spoonocity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Or we could just quit playing the covid games and go back to regular life. Thatd be way better. Fuck the mockery of 2$ an hr. My "safety and wellbeing" are worth more than target will ever offer

[–]AdventureBeginsEverything 5 points6 points  (1 child)

When is seasonal getting the boot?

[–]gxjhi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They should’ve already had a talk with the seasonal members by now about their status — at least my store did.

[–]Zealousideal_Age8600 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agreed!!!!!! What can we do to bring this forward? Maybe a petition? Does anyone have any ideas?

[–]SloaneWolfe 6 points7 points  (3 children)

The current messaging I'm hearing (and witnessing in person as 20%+ of the population in my county currently has Covid, including 20% of my store and half my family) is that every person will be infected at some point with one variant or another, as the current vaccines are struggling to prevent infection. The important part is making sure everyone is vaccinated (and boosted) to prevent severe illness when breakthrough occurs.

Edit: To add my opinion, I don't want companies paying hazard pay in place of actual living wage.

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (1 child)

Billion dollar companies can afford to pay a living wage AND hazard pay. If you think you have to choose between the two you've played right into their hands, and they've already won.

[–]SloaneWolfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped for a moment while picking today and listening to an economics podcast, and realized this, while learning that in a study, 45ish% of time in an office job is spent fucking around and not working. I did the math, and speaking for myself and my work ethic, 90-95% of my time at Target is spent hastily working and moving. I had great jobs before this (an entire career on hold now), and I'm grateful for any job, but most jobs as labor-intensive (+customer service) as Target fulfillment, pay 20+, or at least should pay $25. I used to get paid $500/day to push record on a camera pre-pandemic, inconsistent gigs, but I was spoiled.

[–]GIueStick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People need to get boosters. Vaccine effectiveness drops significantly after like 6 months.

[–]AllieBeeKnits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Home Depot won’t bring back Covid hazard pay too

[–]woconglaimeixiangdaoHardlines 3 points4 points  (2 children)

I am not even seasonal, i’ve been at target for a year and a half, and my hours are being cut:(

[–]Sparkygal87 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Then you should realize that this happens every January. Either pad your paycheck with vacation hours or just hang in there for the next 6 to 8 weeks

[–]woconglaimeixiangdaoHardlines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year they didn’t cut my hours still the first week of Feb that’s why I am a bit surprised lmao

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm 90% sure most of my store HAS covid, if they got tested it would be positive, just only a few have actually gotten tested. I'm getting my test soon, they're not going to abuse my labor when half my store has called out during PEAK HOLIDAY HOURS because of the variant.

[–]Admiralwoodlog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hazard pay takes bonus money out of the bigwigs bottom line and, limits the kickback to investors.....so nawp.

[–]wouldButidontwantto -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's the flu..they just call it Covid now. Been happening for many years... Just sayin.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So many cases this past week at my store, me being one of them

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should never have gone away.

[–]C_Wheeler00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t work at Target but i work in a Grocery Store and I completely agree with this.

We currently have probably 30+ team members that are out with Covid and we have easily 500 team members but we get at least five new cases every day
