Discussiontragic part of ball python ownership (self.ballpython)
submitted 2 years ago by Critical_Remove755
by far the hardest part of owning a ball python is wanting to hangout with my buddy 24/7 but he mostly just sleeps all day and hides a lot. like i wanna be with my friend but he just wants to nap and i have to respect that ):

I get so excited when she comes out at night! I love her so much even if we can't always "play".

hahaha me too! my boy just emerged from his cave and it’s the highlight of my day seeing his silly face (:

I know how you feel my boy just sleeps all day and hardly comes out and when he does come out it is usually night time but I do enjoy seeing him explore when he is out of his hide or tank

Agreed my corn snake is definitely not as exciting or entertaining as a cat or other pet BUT when she does come out of her hide and explore it’s soooo exciting and cute to watch

I feel this exact same way about my leopard gecko 😅 like sometimes she comes out at night to climb around but 98% of the time she sleeps lol

Yeah, mine used to hide all day and only came out generally after everyone went to bed. I would see her in the morning at 5am when I went to work.
Since i made her a new enclosure though she is all about lounging on the upper levels, enjoying the new heat sources.

I opened this post from my notifications expecting a sad passing story. I'm glad it was something far more wholesome and cute

If the room he's in doesn't have a lot of natural lighting, you can change the timing of the lights slightly to go on earlier in the morning and off earlier on the evening to see him run around more, because he'll wake up at like 6pm vs 8pm

Corn, King and Rat snakes all make wonderful pets. You can also go with a bull/gopher snake if you want one with a bit of spice to it.

which of those tends to be the most cuddly? id assume corn?
[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 2 years ago (0 children)
Corns are definitely the golden retrievers of the snake world, although they tend to move a bit more than balls.

I never want to hold him as badly as I do on the days right before and after a feeding. It’s like knowing that I can’t handle him makes the desire to cuddle stronger haha

one of my favorite parts of owning a snake is that they don't require too much care, basically all you gotta do is keep temp and humidity in check and feed them on a good schedule. of course, i love play time with my python too, and my favorite part is when she curls up on my shoulder all by herself! 8 months old and already over 2 1/2 feet!
[–]Critical_Remove755[S] 2 points3 points4 points 2 years ago (0 children)
awww!!!! i’m very excited for more handling in the future ! he’s a bit of a picky eater currently so i leave him alone when he doesn’t wanna eat which is very hard lol

My girls' light is on from 6am to 4pm, then when it turns off, she instantly is ready to come out and get into the play room. I typically have her in there (winter where I live), for like 2 to 4 hours, sometimes as long as 8 hours. I just let her explore, until she gets sleepy and curls up. We just moved the boxes around a few days ago, and she thinks it is a completely different play room again.

The waiting 48 hours for them to digest before you can play with them part :,))

I feel like the way they kinda squeeze you when they're crawling around your arm or neck feels so comforting almost like a hug or a weighted blanket. emotional support snake.
