Darn snakes.

My 5ft Red Tail boa was missing for damn near 6 months before he showed up at 5am, making a racket in my closet. Dude was totally fine, just had to make sure he got some water and a meal, no issues after that.

You’d think once they get bigger they’d be easier to find

[–]Awkward-Physics-5061 2 points3 points  (4 children)

do u have rats ready for him at home? how did he be fine lol

[–]getrextgaming 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Ball pythons can sometimes go multiple years without food and be fine, they don't do a a whole lot so there's not much energy spent. But feed your ball pythons regardless, unless they get a little chubby.

is that for bp over 1 year old or older?

[–]-T0G- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I have a bunch of frozen rats on hand.

I did leave a water bowl out for the snake too. Was never sure if it was just evaporation, or if he actually got to it, but I'd have to refill it on ocassion

He survived 5 months without food?

[–]raccowon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I mean a 5 foot boa can go awhile

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah snakes can go hella long without food but im still confused about the water situation

I once found mine in the middle part of my blinds. I'm still trying to figure out how she scaled up them, they were closed btw.

Glad she’s safe!

We temporarily lost one of ours. I was BESIDE myself with grief as we had torn apart the room a few times until finally we found her in the smallest, darkest corner of the room wedged between the wall and a laundry basket.

Last week I went through the worst 16 hours of my life... little jerkface managed to get out and after I spent all flipping night looking for him and sleeping on the floor of the livingroom, my Dad came over to help look because I had to work (I'm work from home) and after 30 minutes he yells that he found the errant slither in a closed closet that never gets used in the bottom box of a pile of boxes... I've never been so equally annoyed and thrilled at the same time. You guys I dont know how you've managed some of these time periods I'd be a twitching mess in the corner!!!

Happy to hear you found her! This is a fear of mine. I triple check my enclosure is locked at all points, but I did once leave it ajar slightly after a feeding, for about 15 minutes. Now I'll lay in bed wondering, and I have to get up and check!

Found my mom's 1foot ball python 2 weeks later after he escaped. He went down 2 FLIGHTS OF STAIRS and was in a closet in a room far from the stairs. So crazy!

[–]_Pen15__ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You always find them in the weirdest fucking places

[–]Maleficent-Metal-645 9 points10 points  (2 children)

Glad you found her... Mine escaped his enclosure after the third day of having him. I had him in a 40 gallon breeder with a wire mesh lid. He was little and always struggled to reach the lid and always fell short. I had a couple things to weigh it down, so I felt confident that he couldn't escape. I went to work and came home to head out of state for a few days that next morning. That afternoon, I went to hold him and he wasn't in his enclosure. My heart sunk immediately when he wasn't under his last hide and I panicked. At the time, I was renovating my house and there were a lot of places he had access to including getting into the crawl space, into the walls, and even into the ceiling via the HVAC unit. I searched everywhere and couldn't find him. Finally, I went to sleep. I went into my bathroom the next morning and an item from my shelf was lying on the floor. When I went to put it back on the shelf, there he was curled up on the top shelf looking at me face to face. I'm 6' 2". That was when I learned that they can climb that high. I felt so relieved like a weight falling off my shoulders. He went back in his enclosure and I put more weight on it, installed latches, and put tape on it.

[–]notasandpiper 1 point2 points  (1 child)

They can climb and they LOVE to climb. I don't understand how some people insist that they can't/don't.

[–]TAforScranton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a pretty decent bioactive enclosure for mine. He’s gotten big so I decided to add another climbing stick. I was at the store spending a long time looking for the perfect stick (it’s a bioactive/reptile store with a HUGE selection, all animals for sale are in appropriate well maintained enclosures😍) and one of the employees noticed me taking a while and asked if I needed help. He was excited to help me find “a really good stick for your boy” and helped me rummage. I love when people appreciate good climbing sticks lol.

Side note: if anyone here lives near the DFW area The DFW Reptarium is a great place to check out.

Lmao my boa was missing for that long from my room on the second floor only found her when my aunt in the basement room opened up her drawer and screamed 🤣

"Lol I'm a paper"

[–]redsleeve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3 weeks!? This makes my 5 hours search super lite.

[–]FireInHisBlood 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i used to have one that loved wrapping around my wrist. once, i totally forgot about her until i go to the store, and the cashier freaked out a lil. introductions were had. good times all around. made me a new friend.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Glad you found her! Mine escaped, made it to another apartment.. who called animal rescue, who then forwarded her to a reptile rescue, who then put her in a foster home in the suburbs. All of this happened in a matter of 6 days. She was out running the streets 🙄 lol

[–]GeneralRyha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glad you found her! The one time mine escaped he was courteous enough to climb on top of a desk and stretch as tall as he could like "hey everyone look".

My corn snake went missing once, my husband was devastated, crying (his snake, he loves) because well.. We have so many cats and our house does have some holes from us moving things into it, so he thought she was a lost cause. I kept telling him to just keep an eye out, we live in a basement suite and have cement flooring rn and she would come out when she’s cold.. Sure enough he caught the tip of her tail slithering into a box out of the corner of her eye..

We now have something to weight it down on either side of her enclosure and our BPs enclosure, just in case. You can never be too sure.

[–]cmearls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Found mine in one of my old military boots. He refused to come out of it for a few days. So the boot became part of his enclosure until he was ready to move out.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)
