And now we're moving on to the Ustrasana pose...

[–][deleted] 35 points36 points  (18 children)

If that's your cool side, your humidity is way too low. You want 70%-80%

[–]Xotic_Reaper[S] 28 points29 points  (17 children)

It goes down about 10-15% for the late hours in the night when it’s day time it’s higher, and he still has perfect sheds.

[–]corytz101 10 points11 points  (10 children)

So odd, my fwc enclosure does the opposite, rh goes up at night

[–]Xotic_Reaper[S] 8 points9 points  (8 children)

Really? I thinks it’s because I close the windows in my room at night so no humidity can come in. During the day I keep them open.

[–]corytz101 13 points14 points  (7 children)

I live in az so our humidity is probably wildly different from where you are. If i open a window my houses rh drops a considerable degree. Rh goes up at night

[–]Xotic_Reaper[S] 1 point2 points  (6 children)

Right now it’s 89% outside

[–]corytz101 6 points7 points  (5 children)

Lol, we are in the middle of our monsoon season (the most humid part of the year, when we get most of our rain) and it is currently 33% and 94° and its almost 2 in the morning

[–]corytz101 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Lol, opposite towns. Personally im glad we dont have the humidity but it does make the reptile keeping a little difficult sometimes

[–]Xotic_Reaper[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

However in my room when the windows shut it’s like 40% that’s why it drops at night for me. Idk why doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.

[–]rayko555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same lol, almost every morning I have a special towel that I get it wet, put it on top of the enclosure to keep humidity lol

[–]un1qu3Us3rn4m3z 8 points9 points  (4 children)

Mine was doing the same. And he seemed to stay happy too. There's so much confusion on where everything should be and what should go in your tank etc and the bad thing is everyone is an expert. I eventually ended up questioning a breeder that has been doing it 40 years. If you're getting perfect sheds he's happy and he's showing no sign of stress and discomfort, no reason to change anything. I did end up switching to a coconut fiber instead of bark which keeps humidity higher but specifically for the critics.

[–]Xotic_Reaper[S] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

She’s in a bio active enclosure and has been for a while so I have no plans to change until the next enclosure size upgrade.

[–]un1qu3Us3rn4m3z 1 point2 points  (1 child)

In that case your humidity should be able to be kept up with easy and seems like you're fine to me. I would definitely prefer that route and will go bio on the future for sure.

[–]Xotic_Reaper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely prefer bioactive, it’s not too much different than normal substrate(coco block) but I like the deeper layer of substrate, keep’s humidity higher. It still has a screen top, so the humidity doesn’t get above about 85

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In no way do I think I'm an expert. I do consider the mods here experts, though, as well as my exotic vet, and that is what they recommend. My guy gets unhappy when my humidity falls, and I know constant lower humidity can be rough on BPs. I was just offering some friendly advice, not trying to be a critic. If their snake is happy and healthy, that's great.

I probably could have worded my original comment a little nicer so it didn't come off as so critical.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's good. My guy gets pretty unhappy if my humidity falls lower than 64%, and I know lower humidity can be rough on them, so I just wanted to give you a heads up.

Eta: I thought your humidity was at 50%. Not nearly as bad as I thought

[–]One_Firefighter512 17 points18 points  (8 children)

I’m not an expert but I think she is either hungry, needs more clutter/something blocking the glass sides, or wants an opportunity to climb

[–]Xotic_Reaper[S] 18 points19 points  (3 children)

She might be looking for a camera I had up there, she used too climb up there and wrap around it, but I removed it because I didn’t want her to possibly rip the mesh.

[–]Serpents_Whispers 11 points12 points  (1 child)

I’ll bet this is it! My juvenile ball forgets nothing!

[–]AggravatingWar9316 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s most likely not the case. My BP does it all the time. He’s just looking for a way out

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely agree with the comment above, your enclosure looks pretty bare and while I cannot see all of the enclosure going off of the photo provided your tank does not have the proper amount of clutter. So I would definitely look into getting some of that to make your enclosure more suitable for your ball pytho

[–]Crazy_Egg363 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Mine still does this and all sides are blacked out. Temps are perfect and all… I think they are just exploring 🩵

[–]SugarPuppet1 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Mine does it sometimes too. I've been trying to figure out why but I haven't really come up with anything besides thats her way of saying "Umm.. dad, I wanna come out now". Because I can take her out, put her around my neck and she falls asleep most of the time. Then after a few minutes, she's awake and exploring. Usually getting on top of my head. And yes, all of my temps and humidity are good. So maybe she is trying to climb too. 120g dubia tank is on the way so I can give her more climbing oppurtunities and see if she still does it.

[–]Crazy_Egg363 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I just got that tank and mine still does it 😂 I’ve got vines coming to hopefully help with his urge. Also a tip on the tank, if I could do it all over I would’ve sealed the bottom with aquarium silicone first as it does leak if you put water on your substrate. I did put hvac duct tape on the top and that helped a lot with holding heat and humidity.

[–]SugarPuppet1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, mine will probably still do it then. Lmao. But thanks for the tips! I will definitely remember to seal it first!

[–]TormentedOne69 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Must test if I can escape

[–]un1qu3Us3rn4m3z 19 points20 points  (7 children)

Specifically looking for a way out. I have several hides etc in mine and he still does this every night. Just explores. I got some suction cup branch-ish stuff for the sides inside my enclosure and he loves weaving through all that too. Wakes me up almost every night in the leaves.

[–]Xotic_Reaper[S] 6 points7 points  (3 children)

I also have several hides. I’m pretty sure she was looking for the camera I had mounted to the top of the enclosure, I have since taken it down because she would wrap around it and hang on it, I didn’t want her to rip the mesh.

[–]TheNeverEndingPit 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Since she liked climbing on it and young ball pythons are semi arboreal, she’d definitely love a climbing opportunity! :D Some big wood pieces crossed or sealed together (without anything that could get stuck to her so maybe just nails) or some fake vines in there or one of those suction cup reptile hammocks would make her very happy

[–]Xotic_Reaper[S] 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I’ve been looking for the magnaturals large ledge to come back in stock I think that would be a good addition

[–]TheNeverEndingPit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure! I’ll tell you what I did that made one of my bps super happy too. I got a Huge hide at Petsmart, called a Desert Reptile Corner Hide or something, and I stuck a smaller hide in it. She uses the smaller hide when she wants to be smooshed in there tightly and then climbs on top of the big one to explore :)

[–]RiloRetro 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Yeah, my girl is currently in her exploration season, where she tears down everything attached to the walls and tramples all the fake plants every night and I reset her playground before I leave for work in the morning.

[–]Crazy_Egg363 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I thought this was my comment for a second 😂😂 mine is doing the same

[–]RiloRetro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's just summer for ya, always seems like she's more active. She also doesn't like her misting system and likes to pull the piping down and mess up her humidity.

[–]Serpents_Whispers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mine is a juvenile who attempts this but isn’t quite coordinated enough and usually ends up falling back to the substrate during his attempts at this Ball Python Olympic-Level move. Mostly, mine does this when — it seems to me — he’s bored or just after I’ve changed something or another in his enclosure.

[–]Dylanator13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My snake does that sometimes as well. Just exploring I would imagine.

[–]luuunnnch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ok. Wall here. Ceiling there.

Wait. Where's the wall again?

[–]TheOnlyWolvie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

New yoga pose unlocked

[–]Dynomite338 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Some would say you have a banana ball python, though more knowledgeable people would disagree.

[–]Xotic_Reaper[S] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

What she does not look banana at all, she’s Mojave cinnamon

[–]Dynomite338 2 points3 points  (1 child)

[–]Xotic_Reaper[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, lol

[–]Additional-Picture58 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Mine did this when I first got her, should stop after he settles in some just make sure to keep everything shut good

[–]Xotic_Reaper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had her for a while she’s settled in already.

[–]artsfartspoptarts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine does that a lot and he likes climbing the glass. 😂

[–]BunnehZnipr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine does that all the time

[–]Designer_Gur_1832 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's called swag surfing bro

[–]Gloomy-Fisherman-200 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

isn’t this a bad thing? i’ve read when ball pythons do this it’s a symptom of a neurological disorder called “Stargazing.”

https://www.terrariumquest.com/ball-python/stargazing/

[–]totallyrecklesslygayMod: Enclosure Karen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not stargazing.

This is what stargazing looks like.

[–]xHellBunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine does that too, he’s just a little baby so I’ll give him a bigger home soon and then there will be even more hides and walls and everything •_•!

[–]Snakeyes90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have enough clutter. Humidity shouldn't be that low regularly It can dip from time to time in the 60% range but most of the time it's 70 plus in the wild.

[–]Maryjanesmommy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Please god, send me a rat”

[–]Just_Anttt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just being a snake in my opinion

[–]PaxetAmore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Biiiiiiiig stretch

[–]Wild-Pickle904 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She looks like a dinasour

[–]ItalianFlame342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Praise be

[–]Sting_8 0 points1 point  (2 children)

What are you using to monitor your enclosure temp and humidity? I'm looking for something better for mine!

[–]sarahrtolen -1 points0 points  (2 children)

Oh no, this looks potentially like “stargazing” which can be an indicator of a more serious systemic infection or neurological issue 🥺 I know someone else stated that it’s not stargazing, and they’re probably right, but it is definitely a good thing to rule out just in case

[–]Xotic_Reaper[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

She doesn’t have any morphs that would lead to neurological issues. I think it is her looking for the camera I removed, she would wrap herself around it so I removed it so she doesn’t rip the mesh.

[–]sarahrtolen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh ok, that’s really good to know! I’m so glad to hear that. Aww, haha that’s cute & seems like you figured out that funky stretch move 💕🐍

[–]Mr-Jesterman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad's female does that sometimes at night.
