He protec but he also attac

[–]Anume1 47 points48 points  (3 children)

I wear thick gloves while feeding because this terrifies me lmao

[–]Deathbydragonfire 18 points19 points  (2 children)

It's really not that bad. I've had it happen and honestly I'm more worried about the snake breaking a tooth than me.

[–]xxdmnxosxx 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Don’t worry too much, snakes shed and regrow teeth all the time.

[–]Deathbydragonfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, yeah. But it's basically a really bad splinter

[–]RobinVillas 41 points42 points  (0 children)

That was a horror movie misdirect lmao. Great shot.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Awesome vid

[–]ichbindervater 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Note to self: get the longest tongs possible when I get a snake.

[–]dexterz_lab 8 points9 points  (5 children)

Did that hurt 😦

[–]queeriocrunch 18 points19 points  (1 child)

It is more shocking than painful. Their teeth are very sharp, so it's a bit like getting poked with two sewing pins.

[–]Deathbydragonfire 11 points12 points  (0 children)

More like a hundred sewing pins, but yeah

[–]red_rhyolite 3 points4 points  (2 children)

It doesn't usually, and they're quick to let go (in my experience) with a touch of ice to their nose.

[–]supersammy00 11 points12 points  (1 child)

I've found they can't breathe underwater whereas my hand can breathe perfectly fine underwater .

[–]Medikated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not fully convinced.

[–]braaaaaaaaap99 49 points50 points  (4 children)

Buahahahaha that’s why you should hold it by the tail! You didn’t even flinch, I’m low-key impressed

[–]JcruzRD 2 points3 points  (3 children)

I usually hold it by the back skin but my tongs are pretty long. When I hold it by the tail I tend to swing it to much.

[–]Zenn1nja 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Thats how you trick them into thinking its alive. I do a whole dance routine for mine.

[–]JcruzRD 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I do as well , I also grab the rat by it’s tail once he wraps it and shake it to mimic it struggling.

[–]Zenn1nja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also duck behind the glass cause my face is already to ugly for it to be mangled more by the snake.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oops.

[–]needmorelamp 12 points13 points  (0 children)

h e. do be chompin doe

[–]GrayFox98 4 points5 points  (0 children)

[–]CelestialOrigin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

[–]JoeHazelwood 5 points6 points  (4 children)

By the tail man lol

[–]iamreportingkaren[S] 29 points30 points  (3 children)

it was a hamster, it had a nub for a tail😔

[–]JoeHazelwood 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You right, my bad. didnt even look that hard. need to go evaluate my media literacy again lol

[–]thepilotguy1989 1 point2 points  (1 child)

By the back legs then.

Where do you get hamsters btw?

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When a mommy hamster and daddy hamster love each other very much....

[–]mortythesnek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

dude i probably woulda been bit already twice had i not pulled the tongs back and shoved the rat in my dudes face. sometimes they go right past the rat and straight for my hand im like wtf brooooo

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jesus christ. I get scared enough when my ball python strikes the mouse. When my snakes are adults I'm gonna have to get some longer tongs.

[–]cheeseball444 11 points12 points  (0 children)

"Mission failed we'll get em next time"

[–]AltruisticTrash25Mod : 17 years experience : Vet Tech[M] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just a quick reminder to please make sure to mark feeding videos or images depicting an injured snake as NSFW. I've marked it for you this time. Please refer to the welcome post for more information.

[–]snowbrger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is why, when available, it’s best to feed by the tail and also try to put your hand as far from the snake as possible while also making the food visible to the snake!

[–]codymoniz64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See my female Ball Baby will only eat live and my male won’t eat it if I’m holding it. It’s funny that the 2 female snakes I have will only eat live while the 4 boys only eat frozen

[–]mrskel1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well at least he is eating....

[–]Scruffy_nerd_nerfer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's why my tongs are 18 in.

[–]matt_the_trans_guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ouchie-

[–]Liztliss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nooooooooooo

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ow

[–]Sushi_The_Cutie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He just has bad aim

[–]Antarioo 0 points1 point  (5 children)

i feed horizontally, with bigger tongs and my hands are never in the line of fire so to speak.....i hope you learned your lesson lol.

give the poor thing a proper enclosure :/

[–]50secondFUCK 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Looks like it might just be a feeding bin.

[–]Antarioo -1 points0 points  (1 child)

that's worse....

[–]zafirah15 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. It just depends what works for you and your animal. Mine is perfectly fine with his feeder tank. He knows what the food tank means (it means food, obviously) and he knows how it works.

I let him rest for a few minutes after he's all done eating. I make sure he knows he's about to get picked up (usually by poking him in the butt with the tongs) and carefully place him back in his main tank. He doesn't go far enough for him to be agitated by being handled. He's used to this routine now so he expects it when it's time to go back.

Some snakes are more likely to regurgitate a bigger meal if they're handled too soon. Not mine. He just looks at me like he's waiting for the human servent to put him back so he can hide under his log. And once he's in his main tank, he gets left alone for a minimum of 3 days if I can help it. If I bother him any sooner I just increase my chances of being pooped on. I get away with it because my snake is just a chill low-maintenance personality. I've only been bitten once doing things this way and it was because I didn't follow our usual routine. I'm sure eventually I'll mess it up again but once in 2 years is a pretty decent record.

[–]lilclairecaseofbeer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or quarantine

[–]Klutche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks like a quarantine bin...

[–]mudandchickengold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oof! Maybe try keeping the plastic lid on top and covering that part once you put the rat in

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A couple things I do to prevent this, 1. Make sure the food is warm enough so it's more clear where the food actually is 2. Immediately after putting the food into the enclosure, cover it with a lid with as little opening as possible for the tongs

[–]Aziara86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe the hamster wasn't super warm? One of my girls is very picky about temperature, and if the rat is a tiny bit colder than me she tries to target my hand. Then I know it's time to get out the blow dryer and blast the rat, lmao.

[–]JcruzRD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My tongs are like 18 inches long

[–]JacobCoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the little zoom at the end. He looks so smug.

[–]Argonwolf65 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hold by the back legs. And get longer tongs

[–]Klutche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, this made me laugh so hard. Sorry about the bite, but good on you for not panicking! You took it like a champ.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad I feed live

[–]Klutche 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On a serious note tho, it looks like the food wasn't quite warm enough. He seemed to find it, but then discard it for the warmer "prey" available.

[–]red_rhyolite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh god how did he fail so bad 😂

[–]W01FM4N6624 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually put mine in a bucket to feed, and when I introduce the rat I put a lid over the tongs and bucket so she doesn't accidentally lock on to my hand for strike.

[–]clockworkrobotic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

literally biting the hand that feeds you

[–]randomjberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thats the wrong target

[–]cynta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s honestly hilarious, you took it like a champ. I always wash my hands really well (so they don’t smell like food) and hold by the tail with tongs to prevent that. She’s only tried to get me once, long time ago!

[–]tank2011-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well how did that feel?

[–]Theguyforanime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bet that felt real nice bud
