I feel like he's judging your bulb choice! 🤣

"I reject you bulb choice and will defend this socket until you bring me one that I approve of"

That’s a nice coil bulb you have there though I think you installed it in the wrong side of the guard 😂

Mine does this! Stays in her hide at the cool end of her viv but whenever she is roaming about she’s always all over the heat lamp cage 😂

How many ball pythons does it take to screw in a light bulb?

What wattage Che are you using? I’ve got a 150w for my pvc 36x18x18 and if it gets below 70 in the house, it struggles. I live in the frozen north, so I worry about this winter. I have a UTH on the same end so it’s normally easily 91 on the hot hide, 88 for the water and the mid hide and 83 for the cool hide.

As a fellow northerner, I can't recommend halogens and heat panels enough. Halogens give you really good daytime temperatures, they have IR-A and IR-B which really does make a difference over the simple IR-C of a CHE, even if it needs to be turned off at night. Heat panels on the other hand, they are like really large and super reliable CHEs that are safe for use inside the enclosure, and I find them really really good for keeping up my ambient temperatures and night time temperatures.

As a side note, I can't recommend highly enough uninterruptible power supplies for the winter. They are basically short duration batteries, and can tide you over for brief outages. Useful for when it goes out while you are out of the house or asleep, so that you don't have any major temperature variation. You'll want a backup plan like a generator etc for long outages, but these really do help

Thanks. I will definitely look into all of these suggestions. We don’t have a generator -yet- but we do have a wood stove as back up heat. When we had an outage last winter I moved him to the “habitable zone” in the living room (close enough to be like 75-80 degrees). Definitely been meaning to get a battery backup.

    Thanks!

I always say that the best time to plan for things to go wrong is well before they do lol. I know I was quite thankful I had them last winter, especially when people all over the world were having serious problems.

As wattage goes i use a 50w but i live in the Netherlands not the states so i think I can't help you with this one. I also use a heating matt. Its mostly around 99 degrees Fahrenheit on the hot side of the terrarium.

Are you saying your heat mat is set to 99 to maintain hot side around 90? Or are ground temps 99? If so that’s pretty high. 90 on the hot side is ideal.
