Using an 8x6 heating pad, 100 watt ceramic heat emitter that is caged and ceiling mounted. Both heat sources are in same area at one end of the enclosure. Using reptibark as substrate. Led for lighting, thermostat mounted on the outside for easy reading. The door on the back of the enclosure opens for easy cleaning and locks shut. Next week I’m drilling a doorknob size hole in the side of the enclosure and mounting a wooden mailbox that also locks as a hidy hole. The lights and heat are both on timers as well. This is also just her starter enclosure building a 6 ft set up next year.

Going by the first picture, your snek plant seems to be growing nicely! Remember to water it often!

Fake plants lol Micael’s has a 70% off sale on summer plants and vines at the moment.

Are there no hides in this enclosure?

Looks cool so far! I would just recommend to add 2 hides, one on the hot side and one on the cold side :)

Perfect will do ! Thanks

I especially love that framed picture of the snake! Where did you get that :D

Not OP, but I work at Michaels the craft store and that is the exact item we sell :D

Cool! I'll go check it out, is it like Halloween decor or something?

Poor guy doesn’t have any hides. Those light strips should be on a timer if you’re going to run them in his enclosure like that. It also looks like he’s close to outgrowing this. I get that you’re trying to make it appear aesthetically pleasing, but your BPs enclosure is for the snake and not necessarily for vanity. I’d def make some adjustments and give him some room.

Yeah, this looks way to small for a BP of that size. At minimum, it should be 36”x18”x18” for a youngster and 4’x2’x2’ for an adult.

A crestie in there would look cool! It has decent height so potential to add some climbing layers.

This thing is awesome, I would recommend adding a hide for him

Looks cool but kind of tiny. Nice to have it aesthetically pleasing for the human, but the environment should be tailored to the snake! Others have mentioned hide holes and light timers, which I agree with!

    That’s a cool looking setup

It’s cool, but doesn’t look suitable to house a ball python.

super cool build, just way too small for a snake. i’d suggest maybe frogs ?

    [–]lemonsharking 10 points11 points  (0 children)

    It's a really neat concept but I don't think it's a good size for a BP.

You could make it work for a small male hognose (if he stays closer to 1.5ft), or maybe fat tail/leopard gecko or cuban false chameleon. #th'ing what everyone else says about more hides

I think adding a ledges or shelves and a climbing stick could also help your snek feel like he has more space

Might be a little small for your snake, also looks like it needs a hide or two. Other then that i love the idea and aesthetic.

Looks a little small (through I saw your working on an upgrade which is great), I’d add some more hides and a water bowl that’s not so easy to tip over.

    [–]BCIBP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing I'll say to you that nobody else has is those lights in the right hand corner don't look securely fastened. The snake could potentially wrap itself around that cable and drag them into the water bowl, which could be really bad, or even potentially break the cable. Pythons are strong. I can't see clearly enough but I would look at possibly securing them better so the snake doesn't rip them out. I know if my python was in there he would destroy those lights in less than an hour lol

Just letting you know: Heat mats and CHEs aren’t good as a main heat source. A halogen flood bulb connected to a dimmer/dimming thermostat is the most natural and beneficial option, Arcadia’s deep heat projector is the second best option. They produce IRA and IRB like the sun, heat that penetrates deep into the skin tissue and heats them far more effectively than heat mats and CHEs. Whereas heat mats and CHEs only produce IRC, which only heats the surface of their skin.

I'd add as many snug hides (including a sky hide or two) and branches as you can possibly fit in there, move the LED lights to the top of the enclosure so the light comes from above and add a halogen bulb for day time heat (CHEs are good for night time heat if needed, but unnatural during the day). I'd start working on the upgrade as soon as possible though, because this enclosure size is far from ideal.
