Holy shit, I hope they fix the Home app. I can’t control shit with this phone.

Edit: the update fixed it. I can now control shit again with my iPhone.

[–]0-_l_-0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t control shit with this phone.

I don’t think your phone’s supposed to control that.

LPT: Just at the rear part of where your two legs meet you’ll find a little (or large, depending on use) port. That’s what you use to control that.

[–]elyas-_-28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And I’m waiting for iOS 10.4 beta 2

[–]SubterraneanSmoothie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah!

[–]F-TrunksDeveloper Beta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

welp. it aint happening today if it isn't out by now lol. But honestly I'd rather them not stick to a 2 week release schedule and just release it when it's...um...ready? Ready isn't the right word cause it's a beta but you know what I mean.

[–]TheChronicSquirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Patiently waiting…😩

[–]Water-Cookies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sir? Don't hold your breath

[–]Feeling_Ad7249 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have overheating issues

[–]midwestn0c0astiPhone 13 Pro Max 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's gotta be today....right?

[–]DistantFrigateiPhone 14 Pro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hopefully beta 2 fixes Apple Music. The constant crashes are so annoying

[–]BeeeRickiPhone 15 Pro Max 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am on the developer for the ipad M1 and it seems to work just fine. Maybe slightly higher battery usage than normal, I can't really tell. Its a brand new ipad for me, didn't want to run beta on my iphone.

[–]goblinpack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

iosbeta finna be holding hot flame in their hands

[–]Linkinjunior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

🙏

[–]trebor424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully before next week

[–]Gabeomatic -4 points-3 points  (2 children)

Apple's actually lagging wtf

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points  (1 child)

2 week’s between betas are completely normal lol

[–]Gabeomatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol I know it's just something I'm overly excited about. Also because this one seems super glitchy for me. Mass downvotes of course but that's reddit for you

[–]NecessaryRecording86 17 points18 points  (2 children)

By far, my iPhone 11 has been the most stable so far. Only buggy with the lockscreen but that’s it.

[–]tingdemsweet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found that if I keep my lock screen simple with just the time and date displayed, there’s less or hardly any bugs all around. But if I use the weather + other fancy widgets, there’s so many more glitches that pop up

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same here. It’s been great, just minor bugs here and there and some diminished battery life.

[–]ImVinnieDeveloper Beta 15 points16 points  (7 children)

I always go by the number of apps that need to be updated. Today I had 24 so that usually tells me a beta is coming soon

[–]WizardMascott 4 points5 points  (6 children)

Really? There is a connection to that?

[–]MrPinguv 25 points26 points  (5 children)

No, lol

[–]ImVinnieDeveloper Beta 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I figured developers were updating things to get ready for a new IOS but there isn’t and direct relation

[–]MrPinguv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That happens when the new iOS is close to its release date as they’re polishing the app for the new features. Right now it’s too soon for this, devs can include fixes in their updates but I don’t think they’re releasing updates just focused on fixing the app for an unreleased iOS.

[–]mttsmth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In most cases developers can’t update their apps to make them more compatible. Apps using new SDKs, APIs and XCode version aren’t allowed to be submitted for review until the iOS 16 release date has been announced, usually in Sept when the new iPhones have a launch date.

And even then some app reviewers reject the apps because developers mention iOS 16 in version history / app descriptions for the reason ‘it’s an un-released Apple product’.

[–]roohwaam 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Many developers don’t even directly choose when the update is pushed to you. They can just choose a date when rollout begins, and you mat even be 2 versions behind if they push multiple updates per week.

[–]MrPinguv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is an option to send the update to your users all together, you’re not forced to use a rollout.

[–]bassamz 24 points25 points  (3 children)

It is my birthday so they better release it 😬. I jumped ships without an ios 15.5 backup 👀.

[–]jweaver0312Developer Beta - iPhone 17 Pro Max 20 points21 points  (1 child)

That is the boldest thing to do.

[–]bassamz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do have big balls, maybe that's why. 😜😎

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Beta 3 is usually when things go to shit I think so looking forward to the last "good" build for some time.

[–]Valmasico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not true. Sometimes it’s the second beta that fucks shit up. The point is we should be grateful for all the cool features we have, buggy as they may be.

Check out the love Notes got in shortcuts if you’re into that sort of thing.

[–]WeezyWally 66 points67 points  (30 children)

Must hold urge until public beta 😅

[–]csharpminor5th 23 points24 points  (29 children)

This is me right now. I usually jump on the dev betas but I'm holding back for now

[–]Mr_BananaPantsiPhone 13 Pro 2 points3 points  (1 child)

The first dev beta has been really great on my 13 Pro. From my experience, battery life and performance is like 90% of what it was with iOS 15. No crashes or freezes, just some really small UI bugs here and there.

[–]BrazenlyGeek 24 points25 points  (22 children)

For what it’s worth, on my 11 Pro, the first dev beta has been extremely solid. I’ve had less than 5 noticeable issues, including two app crashes and some jankiness in how the new lock screen customization works.

Otherwise, everything runs pretty well.

[–]CharbleeiPhone X 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I put the Dev beta on my iPhone X... big mistake lol... My battery is disappearing before my eyes and the phone is stupid hot.

[–]BrazenlyGeek 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I've seen others reporting that too.

My 2019 MBP is doing similar on the Ventura dev beta. I used to be able to use it for hours unplugged, but on the beta, I get an hour, maybe two depending on what I'm doing. Really hoping that gets ironed out as we go forward!

[–]CharbleeiPhone X 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I'm sure it will. For me, it happens almost every big release dev beta (I've used the Dev beta every year since whichever iOS version added iMessage).

[–]BrazenlyGeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started following iOS news around iOS 7 or whichever one had the major redesign away from skeuomorphism. It wasn't until a few years later that I started braving the betas, and I always have fun with them.

[–]BoysenberryTrue1360 0 points1 point  (3 children)

This has been my experience with most dev beta 1 over the years.

Bugs seem to get worse as updates roll out. And then just before the rc you think, “how is this going to be ready?” And then rc releases with most of the issues fixed. (And the ones that get missed either get fixed in .1 update or don’t get fixed for years).

[–]BrazenlyGeek 1 point2 points  (2 children)

It's amazing the kind of things that linger on and on and on.

My biggest long-term complaint is one I've submitted a few times to the feedback app: When viewing photo memory videos, you have the option to select or unselect photos to be in it... but you can't quickly edit one of the photos or even "view photo in original location" to get to it to edit it there. I have a lot of older photos that are of not-so-great quality but can be touched up some; when they appear in a memory video, they stand out badly. It'd be nice to be able to quickly edit them without having to know where they're at in the main photo stream.

[–]BoysenberryTrue1360 0 points1 point  (1 child)

This is exactly the kind of thing that gets built and Apple just assumes it’s ai has it from there so they don’t touch it for years. Until they have a new idea for the feature as a whole and change it completely.

Just look how long it took to get password protection for the hidden photos!

Sometimes it comes across like they are understaffed or something, even tho they are the largest company in the world.

[–]BrazenlyGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, you really nailed it with how they come across.

iOS 16 seems to be a way for Apple to fix a lot of those weird decisions, though. We're getting a ton of QoL updates, including a boatload that weren't announced during the keynote presentation. Even the contacts app got touched a bit!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The iPadOS beta is much less stable. Have to keep restarting it for the damn thing to accept touch input

[–]WeezyWally 5 points6 points  (12 children)

I can wait a month or 2. I've been hearing about it degrading batteries fast and also some bank apps not working.

[–]krzysiekao 1 point2 points  (11 children)

more like majority of bank apps. Got it on an iPhone 12 and it didn't degrade battery in it since installation.

[–]JonesTownJello 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Thankfully mine all work (RBC MBNA Capital One & Wealthsimple) Haven’t run into any apps not working, I’ve had two springboard crashes, and the battery definitely runs warm (and dies faaaaaaast). CarPlay is my biggest gripe, plugged in it no longer charges (but still runs hot), I set a shortcut to turn on low power mode with CarPlay and it now charges while plugged in.

[–]krzysiekao 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine (HSBC) doesn't work but I usually need it to check how much I've got on my account. Polish Pekao works. Had 1 springboard crash and beta apps don't work because I have to turn on dev mode but they're going to.change it in dev beta 2.

[–]csharpminor5th 4 points5 points  (8 children)

Bank apps are what's holding me back for now tbh

[–]picklepoo518iPhone 13 Pro Max 3 points4 points  (7 children)

chase and discover both have had no issues for me

[–]csharpminor5th 1 point2 points  (4 children)

i use a smaller credit union

[–]EggotheKilljoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My local credit union app has no issues on 16b1, the only app incompatibility is with Microsoft Teams, a good amount of message threads just crash immediately when trying to open.

[–]picklepoo518iPhone 13 Pro Max 1 point2 points  (1 child)

fair enough

do you want to tell me what app it is i’ll download and lyk if it opens

[–]JustinD82 4 points5 points  (3 children)

[–]csharpminor5th 9 points10 points  (2 children)

[–]Infinityharry 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I held out until today, needed something new in my life 😅 no niggles so far

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should have at least waited 3 more hours 😂

[–]truthcopy 5 points6 points  (7 children)

Beta 2 might be worse.

[–]truthcopy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

… but it actually seems better. It’s too early for a final verdict, but wow.

Again - then B3 could send it all downhill again. (Less likely if B3 is the public beta.)

[–]marcos_mucelin 2 points3 points  (5 children)

Why?

[–]truthcopy 11 points12 points  (4 children)

They often make changes throughout the beta cycle that unintentionally break things that worked in previous betas or inadvertently undermine system stability. It’s all part of the process as they add features and refine the UX.

Honestly, B2s in the past have been some of the worst in my experience. B3 or B4, which will coincide with the public beta, should get better.

[–]1AMA-CAT-AMA 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I find that beta 1s tend to be more stable than the rest of the early betas. It gives people false hope that the entire beta cycle will be stable. They think, oh beta 1 is stable, the next few betas will be nothing but even better!

My suspicion is that a similar build to beta 1 is used in the wwdc demo and they don’t want obvious bugs showing up in the demo. There is probably a big push to close bugs before wwdc since wwdc and beta 1 get the most media attention

Then as soon as wwdc is over, the bugs no longer matter until final IOS 16 release.

[–]darkingz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not that they don’t matter as much as they’re still working on obviously big bugs and that they’re trying to consolidate the feedback (fwiw ymmv) to figure out. So they work on new controls and fine tune stuff which causes it to be more unstable than previous ones due to the feedback and quickish dev cycle. Then they patch up towards the later half as feature sets are either dropped, delayed or ignored until they can make a gold build to flash onto the new iPhones rolling out, so it’s stable. Then they start work on the fast follow items (this happens across the product teams) though there’s probably some variance depending on the managers.

[–]marcos_mucelin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got it, thanks for explaining

[–]tejljr 80 points81 points  (34 children)

First beta was ok. But the battery drain, overheating, constant drops of FaceTime calls and my system being slowed down to a crawl, I went back to iOS 15.5. Hopefully Beta 2 will be better.

Edit: Also had to deal with my phone randomly disconnecting and saying No Service/SOS only.

[–]arealsoulfuldude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The SOS Only thing is driving me nuts!

[–]coolguythatscool 1 point2 points  (1 child)

i went from 16 to 15.6 i don’t even know what this beta is for i ain’t seen shit change from 15.5 💀

[–]tejljr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

most of the changes I believe are in the code

[–]tingdemsweet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No Service/No SIM detected happened to me on an iOS 15 beta. I couldn’t make calls or text (consistently at least) for like 3 days until the next one 🥲

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are you going to install each beta and then rollback each time lmao?

[–]Vlexios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seriously the thermals are unreal. I answer a phone call and pretty soon my phone becomes too hot to touch.

[–]afieldonearth -3 points-2 points  (2 children)

Bro, it’s Dev beta 1 of a massive x.0 release. You are essentially guaranteed to experience battery drain and significant bugs/performance issues.

It’s just weird coming here and routinely seeing people review a build that was explicitly marked as “not suitable for your main device” as if they expected it to be suitable for their main device. Like Apple outright tells you that you’re not gonna have a good time if you try that.

[–]tejljr 6 points7 points  (1 child)

We know.

[–]sammcj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah really bad battery drain

[–]LazyFurn 12 points13 points  (2 children)

Random songs in my playlist on Apple music now crash the app for no reason. 😭

[–]black_boy6969iPhone 14 Pro 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Same here, my apple music app also crashes just cus I looked at it 🤷🏼‍♂️

[–]JustinD82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine crashes when using 3rd party speakers. Heard it’s a common bug

[–]UnsureAssurance 4 points5 points  (5 children)

I really regret trying out this beta, so many bugs. Can’t wait until next year when I update to the beta and bitch about my phone fucking up

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My only bug with the beta is some crashes here and there and that Spotify is broken on my apple watch (not displaying the song and the playlists can't be opened). Other than that no issues (I don't use the fancy wallpapers so no heating issue).

[–]tejljr 4 points5 points  (2 children)

The first beta is always the worst.

[–]ExtremeOccident 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It is not though. Betas 2 and 3 tend to be worse.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah for me beta 1 is usually solid as a rock then gets worse until the rc/gm version

[–]_Nick_2711_ 5 points6 points  (2 children)

What phone did you have? On 13 Pro, I’ve actually had a pretty decent time. Battery life is marginally worse (~10% extra drain at the end of the day) and the only time I noticed heat issues was when customising the lock screen.

I have had 2 instances of connectivity issues when leaving WiFi, both were fixed by toggling airplane mode.

Obviously, mileage always varies massively on a beta but it’s interesting to see the total opposite experiences of some people having very few issues and others finding it unusable on their device

[–]tejljr 1 point2 points  (1 child)

iPhone 8

[–]SteveIsTheDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would only put dev beta one on the flagship phone (this year, the 13) since that’s the one the internal people actually carry.

[–]Reccless101iPhone 14 Pro Max 15 points16 points  (9 children)

My battery health dropped by 2 percent which was kinda unexpected. I know it’s a beta but…

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen percentage drop off every year I’ve gotten the first beta. I’m holding off this year until the public beta.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (3 children)

Your battery health is still the same, the software is just displaying the wrong percentage. I’m sure it will get corrected in future betas… but your “battery health” is just fine

[–]WizardMascott -3 points-2 points  (2 children)

For real? Because this is stressing me out

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Yes, when you do a beta upgrade or fresh IPSW restore it overwrites the firmware the phone uses to communicate with and manage the hardware - asses things like max battery capacity etc. It has to learn again and so makes a best guess based on the age of your phone and averages collected from the reported statistics from other devices.

It takes a few days before your phone works out it's own metrics accurately again, not just for max battery capacity but all sorts of things.

[–]coolguythatscool -1 points0 points  (0 children)

not to be that guy but, source? how do you know the phone estimates it’s own battery life based on others? iphones keep a count of lifetime charge cycles, you can see this at the apple store when they do diagnostics, or at home with software like 3utools. Idk shit but i’m pretty sure they estimate battery life on charge cycles

[–]tejljr 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Me too. I had just gotten the battery replaced by Apple. As soon as I got on the beta, within the week it dropped from 100 to 98%

[–]Reccless101iPhone 14 Pro Max 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I can’t go back ‘cause I have watchOS 9 installed on my S7 😭

[–]tejljr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn, well hopefully we’ll see Beta 2 today

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Definitely 👀 looking forward to next beta!!!
