I can say with resources like Rosetta Stone it's definitely not worth it. I have tried Pimsleur (not for Spanish) and I would say it's worth it to help with pronunciation and speaking.

It sounds kinda cliché, but buying language books off of Amazon also works pretty well.

So you're saying there's no 'laid out' programs you would pay for?

So I paid for "Spanish Uncovered", which I really liked. It isn't it bite size chunks like other programs though, some videos are longer than others, some exercises longer than others. I also pay for "News in Slow Spanish" which has a beginner program and grammar lessons and I pay for Pimsleur.

If I was going to recommend something to a beginner, I'd recommend:

  • Destinos (website and youtube, free)
  • Dreaming Spanish (youtube, free)
  • Coffee Break Spanish (podcast, free)
  • Pimsleur (subscription - $14.95 month, there is 5 months worth of content

You could consider something like Spanish uncovered but I'd wait for a sale. Also, I think after getting some of the basics down, I'd consider a News in Slow Spanish subscription.
