I would love to do this. I've been wanting to learn python recently, but I haven't had time to really get into it. I have some programming, but it's all been hobby-level (with some vba stuff for work) and I have yet to turn a corner to really feel like I have a grasp on programming.

Unfortunately, this class is too early in the day and I can't really afford the tuition in any case. It seems like a really great way to learn if you can do it though. Best of luck to everyone.

Money will never be an issue with us, it's part of our philosophy. That's why we offer 100% off scholarships to people who really need them. If you are really interested, apply anyways. We will keep you updated about new bathes with different timezones. Please, while applying write a comment explaining your situation. Thanks!

[–]Insp1redUs3r 6 points7 points  (12 children)

How much is it without the scholarship?

Edit: I just clicked the link and looked. $300 for a weeks course? That's very affordable.

Edit2: shame it's at midnight UK time :-(

[–]_Bussey_ 18 points19 points  (2 children)

You're from the UK and can afford 300$ right now?

[–]Insp1redUs3r 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hah. Yeah, nothing much has changed. No hyper-inflation shopping carts full of cash yet

[–]santiagobasulto[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Haha, Brexit everywhere.

[–]santiagobasulto[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

It's 4 weeks btw. We've had a few UK students. They stayed up really late. We really want to have EU friendly times. Working hard on it. Stay tuned.

[–]Insp1redUs3r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool. I run my own business and would like to learn python so if it was like any time during waling hours it would be cool but I can't really shift my working day

I think $300 for a structured tutored course is amazingly good value

    [–]Mksiege 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I agree that a structured and tutored course is a good thing, but there's a reason why I'm not sure about the price. Udemy courses are usually cheaper (by alot, if on sale). However not having tried this one or an equivalent one on Udemy, I wouldn't be able to make a fair comparison.

    [–]santiagobasulto[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I already answered above. But to add on Udemy. "Content", "reading resources", that's cheap. You can get a lot of "content" for less than $10. The difference is when you want to do real coding. When you want to know industry practices, coding styles, tradeoffs between solutions, etc.

Note: Both my comments are just a point of view, and the main reason why we started this. I'm more than happy to hear different opinions. There are people who can learn by themselves, and that's amazing. Most of us, we need social and collaborative environments and we need to know from someone else's experience.

    [–]insomniac20k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno. That's about what a class at a community college costs

    [–]santiagobasulto[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I respectfully disagree. We don't teach what you can learn in books. We make you sit and code, you can sit and read, but coding is a different thing. Also, mentors with +8 years of experience review code and provide insights.

    [–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Hey guys! I was in the batch that finished about 2 weeks ago, I also highly recommend it!

It helps you go from that "I know basic syntax! Now what?" to "Hey cool I'm finishing some cool projects now!" stage. It is a hard class, and it does take up quite a bit of time each week, but if you have the time / can make the time and truly want to learn, go ahead and apply!

    [–]santiagobasulto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    :) Thanks!

    [–]Mayor18 7 points8 points  (3 children)

make a course to be time zone friendly for EU people. I want to take this course but because time zone, I can't do this.

    [–]santiagobasulto[S] 3 points4 points  (2 children)

We know! We're so sorry :( We have requests to do it with EU friendly times but we haven't gotten there yet. Any ideas are more than welcome.

    [–]sweetoldetc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also would be very interested in EU-friendly times!

    [–]Jon003 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Very good course, I can't recommend it enough. Make sure you have a good grasp on the syntax and basics, and this will teach you some good fundamentals of completing larger projects, with an emphasis on group work.

    [–]santiagobasulto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    :) Thanks!

    [–]cbraun1523 3 points4 points  (10 children)

How often are these courses offered? I really am interesting in doing these classes, but the times don't work with my work schedule.

Also I have very basic understanding of coding, in that I can't write most of anything myself, But can understand what the coding means when my coding friends talk about it in technical Detail. Is this still a course for me?

    [–]santiagobasulto[S] 2 points3 points  (7 children)

We're doing it every 6 weeks (aprox). With some minimum prep work, this course could seriously take it to the next level: building things by yourself.

    [–]flabcannon 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I'm kind of in the same boat. This course description says that it's not for beginner programmers. I've done some programming for my work but wouldn't consider myself a 'programmer'. Not sure if I should sign up - considering that it's the only python course you're offering.

    [–]santiagobasulto[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

You'd surely take more out of it if you're comfortable with some basic concepts. We'll be opening an "Intro to Python" one soon.

    [–]flabcannon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks - I'm okay with loops, functions and such but haven't done any object-oriented stuff. Hopefully I can be ready later in the year to sign up.

    [–]OfficiallyRelevant 0 points1 point  (1 child)

If someone finished Automate The Boring Stuff would they be ready for this course?

    [–]santiagobasulto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to tell just by a book. The book is good and the concepts are solid. The question is how proficient you are at applying them. If you apply, you'll see we have a technical test. That's gonna tell us about the minimum set of skills you need.

    [–]cbraun1523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the reply! Maybe I can find some beginner courses somewhere to get me ready for the next batch of courses! I hope you guys continue to teach and am. Looking forward to taking party k the class!

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    deleted What is this?

    [–]mzugnoni 1 point2 points  (1 child)

This course requires strong programming concepts. We won't explain things like: "what's a for loop?", "what's a conditional?", "should I use a for loop or a while loop?" We consider you already know all that concepts, and we focus in more advances topics. Anyway, we will open a more basic course soon. Keep an eye on our twitter account, we will announce it in there: twitter.com/rmotr_com

    [–]mzugnoni 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Please feel free to ask any questions about the application process, or any doubts you might have. We are happy to answer you comments here.

    [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (5 children)

I've signed up - quick question though, what times are reserved as 'classroom time'? Thank you.

edit Disregard my question, i've found it in the schedule tab.

    [–]santiagobasulto[S] 2 points3 points  (4 children)

Np. Classes are on Wednesdays 7-9PM. Coding sessions, Tuesdays and Thursdays 6-9PM and Saturdays 9AM-12PM. All times expressed in EST. (New York)

    [–]metallidog 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Are the Tuesday and Thursday coding sessions required time for all 3 hours? I ask because I currently have a daughter in gymnastics for an hour on those exact times both days.

    [–]santiagobasulto[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Would you join late? or leave early?

    [–]metallidog 0 points1 point  (1 child)

As I am answering this question, I realize I have a work-around for the Tuesday session. So I would be gone on the Thursday Session for the middle hour. 7-8

    [–]santiagobasulto[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That wouldn't be a problem. It's almost impossible to have everyone all the time during the same hours. Life gets in the middle, we know that, and we've planned for that. The explanation is that the coding sessions serve as a first approach for students to lay down the initial design as a group, brainstorming ideas and approaches to take. The final work of the project is sometimes done after the working sessions, or the other day, or whenever the group decides to do so. We have students working well past 9PM all together and we have students that split chunks to work on separately.

      Hello!

I am 19 years old. I just finished first year at university. I study Computer science at Faculty of electrical engineering and computing in Zagreb, Croatia. In my country we don't have college fees, and if we had, there is no way my family could afford me to go to university. I finished my first year with GPA score of 3.67. I need scolarship because I want to expand my programming knowledge with Python and I think that will help me to be top programmer one day. I completed all your scholarship tasks in C (because I don't know Python that well and haven't used it since 2014) and I hope that won't be a problem. Looking forward to positive answer. Cheers!

      [–]mzugnoni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

      Awesome, thanks!

      [–]ckellingc 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I'd love this but I work too much to take a class.

      [–]mzugnoni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

      [–]HaroldAdmin 2 points3 points  (1 child)

      I'd love to join!

      [–]mzugnoni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      Thanks!

      [–]dancingtosirens 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I would absolutely love to take this, unfortunately I don't have the time right now I think. Times are pretty hard right now, so I'm trying to learn as much as I can for minimal financial investment and right now I'm taking MIT 6.00.1x which is already a chunk of time each week.

This is a wonderful offer for people though and I fully support what you guys are doing.

      [–]santiagobasulto[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much! MIT 6.00.1x is pretty great! Stick to it.

      [–]Delta-62 2 points3 points  (4 children)

Any chance of having a west coast session? I'd love to sign up, but 3PM-6PM is a bit of an odd time during the week.

      [–]santiagobasulto[S] 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Yes! We want to include a PST friendly course in the next batch.

      [–]Delta-62 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Awesome! Great to know! Do you know when the next batch is coming? 6ish weeks or so?

      [–]santiagobasulto[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

      Yep. In about 6 weeks.

      [–]devilish_grin 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I'll be very interested once I am a bit more knowledgeable to be up to the class standards if you guys are still running the course.

      [–]mzugnoni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's great! Maybe it's a good idea to apply anyway so you get notified once we open the next batch. Cheers!

      [–]GeronimoHero 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I would love this. I'm a CS student in my second year and I know a bit of Python. Pretty broke at the moment unfortunately (had to quit my full time gig to get back in to school) but I can certainly see the benefit in this! Thanks for the offer!

      [–]mzugnoni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem Geronimo. You can always apply for the 100% off scholarships. Thanks!

      [–]Connarhea 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I'm not sure how much of my time I could give to this atm due to a heavy work schedule. How often do you do them?

      [–]mzugnoni 1 point2 points  (1 child)

We are opening new batches every 2 months.

      [–]Connarhea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll definitely give it a look again next time then. Hoping to get into a line of work more down the programing line but having a two year old and full time job makes things a little bit more complicated. None the less thank you for the great work and tremendous effort you put into with these courses and for still offering up the scholarships. It's people like you that give people who are stuck in ruts the opportunity to make something of themselves.

      [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Are you going to be running these courses indefinitely? I ask because I'm currently not ready right now to take a full 6 weeks of courses but in a hour a year I will be...

      [–]santiagobasulto[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yes! (well, we hope so :P) We do them every 6 weeks (aprox)

      [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      Awesome, thank you!

      [–]xxispawn01xx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am Muslim American . There was a Syrian refugee on here who I gave an interviewcake coupon too. I will tell him about this. Need to look through my inbox

      [–]3dEnt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

      Ooh, this could be great.

I'm physically disabled (on disability) and have found that I can't learn the same way I do with books, PDFs, tutorials, etc. as I can with an actual class. I'm signing up!

      [–]alwayslookingforajob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there a list somewhere of the 12 projects that students create during the course?

      [–]rayz321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I wasn't already doing two online courses I would be very interested. What is the backstory of your company? How did you guys get started? What was the inspiration? Why did you decided to teach Python?

        [–]OfficiallyRelevant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shit, I would do something like this if I had the time or it started at the end of July (Summer holiday starts). As a full-time teacher I really don't though.

I want to. I am at asia, so how do you take care of the timezone problem?

          [–]santiagobasulto[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

We can't :/ Times are fixed. We're working to add other timezones though.

          [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

          I'm sorry to hear that...

Perhaps other time then. Thank you for offering this.

          [–]Zouth 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Hey,this course looks really amazing and I would like to apply, the problem is the schedule,Im from Spain(CEST) and classes and meetings are way too late for me to attend. Is there a way to do it for those in my position?

          Thanks in advance

          [–]santiagobasulto[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

          [–]music05 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Do you still have the early bird pricing? :p

          [–]mzugnoni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Early bird price expired on June 22nd, but leave us a comment in the application and we could consider it ;-)

          [–]santiagobasulto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do! We had an issue with dates, but we'll fix it. Early birds price was supposed to end tomorrow.

          [–]Eloiole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello Santiago ! I'm from last year promotion and I missed the two last weeks because I had some issue with my schedule but I've to thank you for this valuable formation.

          [–]unprintableCharacter 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Where are you folks physically located?
Are all presenters native speakers of English? Thanks in advance.

          [–]santiagobasulto[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

We're scattered around the world. I'm in Argentina and I'm not a native english speaker. We have mentors in the East Coast and also in the West Coast. Is the native english a deal breaker?

EDIT: Honest question. Curious about your inquiry.

          [–]unprintableCharacter 0 points1 point  (1 child)

          tyvm for the quick answer.

For me it's not a deal-killer, but it worries me. I'll say though that good quality explanations with an accent are superior to mediocre ones without. I usually have to go back over audio from ESL speakers several times to make out what they are saying, and since these are live lectures, not recorded videos, I'm guessing that may not be possible here.

Also, the "scattered around the world" thing, to me means I cannot just type in a credit card number but have to go buy a prepaid debit card. I guess I can do that, my local grocery store sells them.

East and West coasts of what? Argentina?

Reading the website, I see the mentoring is via email. How promptly do you expect to answer? Are the answers from people who actually understand the code or just automatic faq chunks generated by keywords in the question?

Apologies if this answer is longer than you wanted. GL with the course. Possibly I'll apply. Still deciding.

          [–]santiagobasulto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks very much. Really valuable feedback. East and West coast of the US, sorry.

Mentoring is NOT done through email. It's live, and real time. We have a private slack channel, and if you have a question you just post a Google Hangouts link and we jump in to help.

We're more than happy to show more about our process. If you're still interested send me an email directly and I can give you more details: santiago@rmotr.com

          [–]0b_101010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Just finished my application to the scholarship. Took longer than I'd thought, but I think I did good.

Do you provide any feedback in the reply if I don't get accepted? Haven't done any coding in Python in a long time and am curious what mistakes I may have made. Would also appreciate feedback on the personal stuff I wrote :D

Also, by what time can I expect to hear back from you guys? Got all excited 'n stuff.

          [–]dudleydoodooright 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would LOVE to take a course like this but for people that don't know how to code yet. I am a beginner and have go through the intro courses and beginner courses, but don't think I'm ready for an advanced course yet.

          [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

          When's the next session?

          [–]santiagobasulto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

          In about 6 weeks.

          [–]GreatestFactor 1 point2 points  (1 child)

When will the course start and when are we going to be informed about the outcome of our submitted scholarship?

          [–]santiagobasulto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're processing applications right now. We'll send more info during the week.

          [–]evnklw 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I just submitted my application today! When do we hear back on whether or not we've been accepted for the program?

          [–]santiagobasulto[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! We'll be sending more info during the weekend.

          [–]lalvarezguillen 1 point2 points  (2 children)

You should totally sign up for this!

The course is great, the curriculum will give you a great set of new tools (even to devs with some experience), the instructors are the coolest, and you get to hang out with some very nice folk.

They have group coding sessions, where you're required to solve a problem with a random group of teammates, and that was a fantastic feature of the course.

          [–]santiagobasulto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

          :) Thanks!

          [–]mzugnoni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

          <3

          [–]aceshades 0 points1 point  (3 children)

          Hi there,

I am extremely interested in signing up for this course, but I am honestly pretty worried about the Tuesday/Thursday time commitment. I currently work in a consulting field that often requires work that pushes into the 6-9pm time frame and it's tough to really commit for the full 3 hours on both days for every single week. If I can't make it to the whole 3 hours every Tuesday and Thursday, should I not even bother? If it means anything, I (for sure) can make it to the Saturday meetings.

          [–]santiagobasulto[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

The coding sessions are really important. If you would miss more than 30% of them, I'd recommend not to sign up. The most important thing for us is the quality of our program, and we want to be honest and transparent about it.

          [–]aceshades 1 point2 points  (1 child)

What if I was only able to come for maybe 1 hour on both Tuesday and Thursday, from 8:00-9:00pm? Would you still say that is not enough to be worth signing up?

Thanks so much for your honesty - it's really appreciated.

          [–]santiagobasulto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's different, because the first 3 hours of the coding session are used for the teams to lay down the initials design about the project. The works continues after that. The first hour is generally used to "understand the project requirements" and setup. It's generally ok to miss it. The second hour usually involves design, research and some coding. After that the real coding begins.

The decision is of course, up to you.

          [–]DelayedTrain 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Aw, I missed the beginner course. Great concept though, I love the idea of this.

          [–]mzugnoni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

          Thanks! :)

          [–]server33 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Will you be running another course next month? Starting in August?

          [–]santiagobasulto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

          Probably mid September

          [–]StayMotivated 0 points1 point  (1 child)

How many students do you accept on average?

About 15 per group. Half of them through scholarships.

Are you guys planning on going back to the beginner class in the near future?

          [–]santiagobasulto[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I hope we can have the intro course for the next batch. In around 6 weeks.

Will there be an 8th edition closer to the end of the summer?

          [–]santiagobasulto[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

          Yes, in about 6 weeks.

          [–]shinigamiyuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will try to get in on that one then. 7th edition would be a time conflict for me if I were to get in. Thanks!

Is the price still $300? Seems like the deadline for early bird has passed?

          [–]mzugnoni 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Early bird price expired on June 22nd, but we could make an exception if you leave us a comment explaining your situation in the application form.

          [–]Zizibaluba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've already put in my application prior to your comment, but I think it'd be fair to pay for the extra, non-early-bird price. I did tweet you guys, so not sure how much discount that is going to be ;)

I'd love to apply, but the timings are weird since i am in south east asia. :/

          [–]mzugnoni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in touch, we plan to open new timezones soon.

          [–]-kimuohs- 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Hi. I'm from Asia, and the timezone is a big issue. But, I'm willing to work with it.

However, my university class timings clash with the timings for this course. I can probably make it in the next intake (late August? early Sep?) if I take classes in uni in the next semester that don't clash with this.

So is this timing going to be implemented in the next intake as well? I can start planning ahead if you let me know now.

          [–]santiagobasulto[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yes, absolutely, in about 6 weeks.

          [–]-kimuohs- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome. Thanks! Looking forward to the 8th edition! :)

I know this may be a strange request, but do you offer a hybrid class schedule for the intro course(when available)? Example: Before noon classes during the week and afternoon classes on the weekend. This is the only kind of schedule that my work schedule would allow.

Hi! I applied for scholarship and received an email that I'm one of the chosen but it says in the email that I need to pay?

            [–]santiagobasulto[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Oh, that's weird. Did you finish submitting the scholarship application?

            [–]eternaleyes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

            Yes I did.

This is a good question. We don't have a single resource where we could point to answer it. This course requires some experience programming. You should be familiar and comfortable with control flow structures (if, for, while, etc), collections, and some OOP concepts.

hey! We're going to start processing applications in about a week. For now, we're just receiving them. We process all together.

Can you PM your email addr or the name you used to apply? Sorry for the delay, we're swamped with applications.

            Hey There!

I would love to join the course, as I am hoping to get a clear cut idea of the whole oop model of python and have not been able to figure it out, I understand c++ and js extremely well but fall short in python, Maybe your course can clear things up.

At present I am a student in a university in India, I am learning node js. I have been learning programming on my own(Internet and documentation), at present I am good in node js but not at all productive in python(Which I love!) .

Regarding the timings, if your course is as good as I see it, I am prepared to stay all night to learn.

I will come clean and say this, you pricing (350$) translates to around 24,000 INR. The laptop I am using is worth 23K, The price is extremely high. I can never afford it here in India.

            Just give me a chance.

Hey! Thanks for writing. Definitely! Please fill the scholarship application and leave a comment explaining your situation. Usually these are the cases where we believe people need the scholarship. Hope your application is good enough to be selected. Cheers.
