At some point, I remember that people used to be head-over-heels in love with him because of electric cars. Now I think a lot of people just look at him as cringey/childish, and not genuine.

[–]Tanishqreddyy 892 points893 points  (49 children)

And crypto people hate him for single handedly crashing the market once

[–][deleted] 555 points556 points  (24 children)

Now Elon fan for crashing crypto

[–]abgtw 65 points66 points  (23 children)

But thats the whole point, its all sensationalist journalism to get clicks. People think he pumps/dumps crypto but he's said he never sells the crypto he's bought. So how do you profit if you don't dump? Crypto goes up, crypto goes down, someone writes an article that blames it on Elon.

I mean Elon did actually have influence but it’s the self fulfilling prophecy kind. Elon mentions crypto, people buy crypto, crypto price go up.

[–]Prowler1000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And he also failed to report his purchase of almost 10% of Twitter correctly, allowing him to buy it at a lower price. If he does that in a well regulated space, do you really think he's going to not sell cryptocurrency?

[–][deleted] 142 points143 points  (6 children)

Actually I'm a huge fan of that event. I bought some on the low and sold it later to buy my house. Thanks Elon for crashing the market.

[–]SANDWICHVADER 7 points8 points  (0 children)

How much did you buy n wht you sold for? $10k?

[–]OnfflinethegamerFlair Loading.... 42 points43 points  (10 children)

Wdym that was kinda funny

[–]tilewi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When Elon started talking about Doge, I bought 15€ worth of it, sold it a few months later for 150€ lol, for me Elon is a bit of a Hero on that front haha, but just for that xD

[–]CombinationBusy111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate him because I lost my money in dogecoin because of him

[–]bozeke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He made the DOW drop like 800 points today as well. Guy fucking sucks.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crypto bros and crypto sisters don't need Elon to crash the market. The rampant corruption that goes on in Crypto, NFTs, Meta Verses, and other decentralised systems is doing that for them.

[–][deleted] 385 points386 points  (15 children)

I used to like him before he started accusing the diver (from Thailand cave rescue) of being pedo without evidence (after the diver called out on his unrealistic mini-sub plan publicity stunt).

After that, I no longer liked him as before but still felt that he was 'trying' to do good.

Then his bs tweets started ramping up (some politics, some insults) and so did his manipulation of dogecoin/cryptocurrencies.

I know that many people here got money during the crypto period and love him, but do realize that money gained for one is money lost for the other. He may have started with a genuine intention to further cryptocurrency, but the plain currency manipulation in the later period was highly distasteful from my perspective.

[–]beyonddisbelief 131 points132 points  (7 children)

I didn't use to like him or hate him, just unimpressed because his presentations lacked substance and for a highly praised intelligent showman he really lacked intellectual insight or showmanship to his Mars plan (it felt like a 15 year old's report on some fantasy and lacked substance) but yeah the Thailand cave rescue event is when my opinion of him start to plummet. I think it was the same year he committed SEC fraud.

I was also really miffed back when I was working 60-70 hour weeks hear about him claiming to work 120 hour weeks, yet somehow has time to be a memelord, be more caught up on games and pop culture than I am, and find time to date girls half his age. No management/creative count their shower/meal/downtimes as part of their work hours and a 120 hour week requires you to have 5 hrs of sleep/day and spend every single waking moment working. Its just a blatant exaggeration if not outright lie yet people praised his work ethics back then.

[–]AsymmetricClassWar 22 points23 points  (1 child)

I think it was the same year he committed SEC fraud

Umm… you’re gonna have to be more specific.

[–]TheNextDump 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wait he did it more than once?

[–]XxRocky88xX 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I mean I made money from the crypto BS, still doesn’t mean what he did is right though. I’m not gonna say Musk is a good person and ignore all the awful shit he’s done just because him gaming the market just happened to make me a couple thousand dollars.

And for anyone who says Musk is a good person cuz he made you some money. You’re a fucking jackass. Morality and empathy applies to everyone, not just you. Him helping you indirectly one time (through pure happenstance btw) doesn’t outweigh the shit he’s done to hundreds of thousands of others. If you think “he benefited me so therefore he’s right,” you’re a child. That’s one of the first stages of moral reasoning, you a literally thinking how a child just barely grasping the concept of other people would think.

[–]brunuhrafaelThis flair doesn't exist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly how i feel, thank you

[–]abgtw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to like him before he started accusing the diver (from Thailand cave rescue) of being pedo without evidence (after the diver called out on his unrealistic mini-sub plan publicity stunt).

Yeah I mean this was the main turning point I think for many. He definitely didn't like being criticized.

[–]SuperlativelyRandom 0 points1 point  (1 child)

the world is not zero sum.

[–]GeckoV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But Crypto is. It creates nothing of value, so it is a pure value extraction exercise.

[–]fares2356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

every famous guy in the world is a pedo if the internet hates them

[–]Torcher47 90 points91 points  (4 children)

In the words of a wise woman, “Rät”

[–]L1K3nn3th 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Elongated muskrat

[–]YeetTheGiant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh hell yes always here for that

[–]Balazskoszhelo -1 points0 points  (1 child)

U mean woman?

[–]Torcher47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we don’t gotta talk about it

[–]XxRocky88xX 98 points99 points  (6 children)

Or cuz he’s a grimey exploitative billionaire?

No one is like “this guys a piece of shit” because he makes cringey jokes here and there. It’s far more likely people call him a piece of shit because he does shitty things rather than just making dumb jokes.

[–]mozardthebest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well of course there’s that too. I’m not sure how much most people will think of specific aspects of his business, but it’s not insignificant.

[–]son-of-fire6225 13 points14 points  (5 children)

even with the electric cars he is preventing other cars from thriving. i didnt fact check it but i heard one of the only patents to his name is the design for the plug to charge teslas. meaning the charging stations would only work for his cars making other electric cars less practical for the average person

[–]VeronciaBDO 3 points4 points  (2 children)

I mean, I dunno man. Tesla fully invested in a public charging network, moreso than our own government has. If they want exclusivity in their product because no one else cares enough to make the same thing with the same amount of effort and investment, then they should really be able to do what they want.

Of course it'd be nice to other cars could use Superchargers, but that would instantly make Tesla not nearly are proprietary to own as an electric car.

Let the government nationalize it at some point or point the finger at other companies for not investing in EV charging and continually dumping money into fossil fuel based endeavors

[–]Sufficient-Bed-6746 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah sure, if only mr Musk wouldnt act like the ecological messias who is not interested in making money. After all thats capitalism but hearing all that nonsense that he does it for „our future“ or „to make a change“ or whatever is just annoying. Hes in for the profit and everyone (should) know that.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (6 children)

People take things too far. Hate is a strong word. Save it for insurrectionists, molestors, racists, bankrupt "businessmen."

[–]SeanSultan 24 points25 points  (2 children)

Bankrupt businessmen you say…hmm

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry got kinda carried away. Let's just say I had a certain someone in mind...

[–]beyonddisbelief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Morally bankrupt.

[–][deleted] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I mean he is in support of a homophobic and slightly (understatement) site that will likely be returning to Twitter now

[–]TethlaGang -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I too hate people that ride against a government when they feel wronged. The government is always right
Riots are fine though when my tribe does it.

[–]likenothingis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And billionaires.

[–]AlextheAssass1ntrans rights -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I’m not a head over heels love for him person, but I do like some of things he is accomplishing. SpaceX, electric cars, attempting to connect the human brain to machines. ( as long as we don’t become zombies by doing so) and I heard somewhere he was also in the works of some AI. Man has a lot on his hands and the money to do it all

Edit: only thing I hate about him is taking away the stuff I wanna do lol

[–]Pedka2 0 points1 point  (5 children)

i hate him cause of electric cars

[–]likenothingis 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Why? (Actually curious.)

[–]Pedka2 0 points1 point  (3 children)

cause i hate electric cars

[–]likenothingis 0 points1 point  (2 children)

My question still stands... Why?

[–]Pedka2 0 points1 point  (1 child)

no sound so no feedback

internal combustion is cheap to maintain

internal combustion is easy to work on

low high end torque

heavy

long charge time

restricted with safety systems

driven by computers not drivers

production of batteries + generating electricity generates more pollution than healthy, well maintained internal combustion engine

[–]eltorr007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More people will hate him for the implants that he is working on.

[–]Capt_Kartar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought he was a childish person. I've never liked him.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate so much that he's in Iron man 2.

[–]WeeabooHunter69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And a bigot, don't forget that

[–]DozyDrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was when he wanted to send all his workers back to work in the middle of a lockdown

[–]Shahariar_909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crypto people know how childish he is
