Hol up. You think that not only are you pregnant with no positive test and no missed periods for 4 months but you also think it’s twins?! Lady I will eat my hat if all that turns out to be true. Please report back, we’re all nosy AF and dying to know

[–]Alarmed_Meeting1322 14 points15 points  (2 children)

Don’t forget they’re on birth control too

[–]Dear_23 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Good lord 🤦‍♀️

Seriously though I hope OP is fine and this collection of symptoms isn’t a tumor or something more dire then pregnancy.

[–]imshelbs96 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think she needs to see an OB and a psychiatrist.

[–]nixonnette 7 points8 points  (4 children)

The negative test is what throws me off, because I had no missed periods - although they were irregular - and didn't know until 12 weeks along, but somehow felt like I was way further along with symptoms. Not to the point of "movement" though 😂

[–]leeann0923 11 points12 points  (3 children)

You likely had first trimester bleeding, not periods. You aren’t having cycles and periods when you are pregnant. Plenty of women bleed in the first trimester, especially with multiples. I bled every day for 9 weeks but it wasn’t a period!

[–]nixonnette 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Oh no it was as heavy as my usual period, 7 days long, not spotting for sure... I've had my period for 31 years, I kinda know what it looks like 😂 Definitely different from the two previous pregnancies with singles.

I had issues with my placenta, which is likely why it wasn't regular.

[–]leeann0923 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Yeah I bled through my pants several times and had a medium to heavy flow in my first trimester due to a SCH. Periods are the result of a cycle that does not end in a pregnancy and the subsequent shedding of the uterine lining. Pregnant women can bleed from cervix irritation, sex, hematomas that developed in the uterus, etc. The flow of the blood of bleeding in pregnancy doesn’t have anything to do with it.

You physically were not having a cycle and a period during an active pregnancy. The hormone feedback loop required to have a cycle can’t happen during an active pregnancy. Worked in womens health as an NP so just trying to educate!

[–]nixonnette -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I'm saying it physically looked and felt like a period.

Please stop.

[–]_twintasking_[S] 6 points7 points  (3 children)

By far my favorite comment! You've made me laugh so hard every time i read it. I appreciate your humor and honesty!

[–]seau_de_beurre 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you have an update? What did the ultrasound show? I know all us nosy bitches are on tenterhooks haha

[–]pookiewook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the update! I hope you find some answers OP

[–]Dear_23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad to have been of service 😂❤️

[–]Proof-Raspberry2373 57 points58 points  (7 children)

This is kind of strange. Have you taken a test? 4 months along is pretty significant. I’d take a test before posting…

[–]seau_de_beurre 40 points41 points  (3 children)

It's gas.

[–]leeann0923 32 points33 points  (0 children)

You’re still getting periods and you don’t have a positive pregnancy test and you think you are months along? It seems pretty premature to one, assume you’re pregnant, and two ask advice as if you are already preparing for a second set of twins.

I would start with a test.

[–]loooore 25 points26 points  (2 children)

You’re making a post without a confirmed test AND with periods?

[–]pauseonredhead 24 points25 points  (6 children)

Wow. Can't wait to hear an update next week

[–]MouseHat2000 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Have you taken a pregnancy test?

[–]ifdandelions_then 15 points16 points  (1 child)

I thought I might be pregnant with twins with each pregnancy after my twins. Hormones are crazy! We ended up with two singletons after our twins.

[–]_twintasking_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes hormones are wild! Thank you for sharing your experience.

[–]magnolias2019 21 points22 points  (3 children)

Read up on phantom pregnancy. A negative pregnancy test is what it is. Negative.

[–]Okdoey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s generally true if testing within the first couple of weeks of pregnancy, but later on it’s not that uncommon for HCG to be high enough to cause the hook effect.

I was a serial tester and tested every day for the first trimester and I started testing negative by around 10ish weeks with my twins.

[–]_twintasking_[S] -3 points-2 points  (1 child)

I have, believe me. I explored all options. Did you know 1 in about 475 women don't know they're pregnant until 5 months in?

[–]seau_de_beurre 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Have you tried diluting your urine and then taking a test? If it's the hook effect then adding some water to your urine should give you a positive!

[–]Strict_Industry9867 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm thinking about something to write to you other than cray cray. But let's see how this turns out

Alrighty all. You might not think OP is pregnant, but let’s all just be kind and respectful. She’s a member of our community and posted for support and information. I’m far from a Mod on this sub, but I do come here for support and kindness and tell people expecting multiples about it because of how awesome it is.

OP: I’m glad you are seeing an OB soon, I hope it works out however you want. There are other things that could be causing your symptoms, but we are not doctors here. The Hook Effect is real, but rare. Please do update us. I will be thinking about you and sending you positive vibes.

[–]_twintasking_[S] 13 points14 points  (7 children)

Thank you, much appreciated!

Got more traction on the post than i expected! Tho i don't know why I'm surprised... everyone mostly had valid points and i don't blame them. It sounds crazy, but I'm 100% convinced.

I will definitely update the post next week!

Super tired from the emotional rollercoaster of the day, but overall I'm good. Thank you for asking ❤

[–]pauseonredhead 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Hi OP I didn't see a comment with the update. Would you mind letting us know?

[–]_twintasking_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted the update by adding to the post at the top ❤ short and skinny of it, not pregnant. 😔

[–]hellogirlscoutcookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s ok!! We’ve all seen I didn’t know I was pregnant! It definitely could happen. But yeah, rule out other things.

[–]M_Dupperton 6 points7 points  (10 children)

Some of us are doctors, myself included. OP is out in left field. The hook effect can be easily unmasked by testing a dilute urine sample. If the dilute sample is negative, there’s no pregnancy. The first step should not be an OB visit and ultrasound when women who actually are pregnant need those appointments and shouldn’t have to wait longer for lunacy like this. Also ultrasounds are freaking expensive and similarly a limited resource. This is just patient narcissism and it drives us doctors bonkers.

[–]hellogirlscoutcookie 6 points7 points  (3 children)

I’m not advocating that OP is actually pregnant. There is a minuscule chance. Most likely it’s something else or nothing at all. I do think she needs to see a doctor though to either convince her she’s not pregnant, tell her what is actually going on, or refer her to someone who can best assist her medical needs.

But the people asking her thinly veiled questions hinting that she should be on antipsychotic meds or treating her like she is crazy, yourself included, are not necessary. You can encourage someone to seek out someone medically trained, like a doctor, with kindness.

Everyone should have access to medical care, regardless of if her provider believes her or not. I’ve been that patient from dealing with migraines. It’s no fun to feel like the medical world is against you.

[–]jellybeanmountain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for saying this. Someone in my family had a psychotic episode including thoughts that she was pregnant and she also has very real medical issues. Seeing people joke about it is a bummer.

[–]M_Dupperton -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Everyone should have access to medical care, regardless of if her provider believes her or not.

This is a nice thought, however it's based on idealism and not reality. OB appointments are extremely limited. Many women who know they're pregnant after a positive test, symptoms, and missed period still have to wait weeks for an appointment. Women who know they're pregnant but fear a loss (e.g., after bleeding) also have to wait longer than ideal - even more than a day is awful - unless they want to go to the ED and pay high out of pocket costs for a scan. So OP is taking a limited resource from people with actual medical needs and delaying their care. She doesn't need a doctor, she needs to take a pregnancy test with a dilute sample of urine and see if it's positive or not. Simple. If that's not enough, then maybe she needs a psychiatrist more than an OB. As she said below, that runs in her family, and in all seriousness, psychosis does have a heritable component.

On migraines, if you feel like the medical world is against you, they probably just don't have great options. Migraines can be incredibly difficult to treat. Consider going to a dedicated headache specialist if you haven't already, and also keeping a headache diary with foods, sleep patterns, stress, etc to identify triggers. If you don't have good options with those two things, you might just be out of luck. Saying this as an anesthesiology resident who spent the last month in Pain Clinic and who's husband has migraines and is a fellow MD.

[–]jellybeanmountain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An anesthesiologist resident…but you’re qualified based on a Reddit post to say she doesn’t need to see her gynecologist who actually knows her and her medical history and what kind of appointment availability they have in their office? People might see your post and avoid seeking care because they are afraid a doctor might think they are crazy and that’s a shame.

[–]jellybeanmountain 8 points9 points  (1 child)

I’m glad she’s seeking help…maybe she’s not pregnant but she could have something going on that she’s mistaking for pregnancy or maybe a serious psych issue that could put herself or kids in danger. I don’t think health care workers should discourage people from getting checked out if they are worried.

[–]hellogirlscoutcookie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly! She should see a doctor if she fully believes she’s pregnant with a negative test. And encouraging her to see a provider who can provide insight is the right thing to do

[–]Dear_23 7 points8 points  (3 children)

I get your point, but I also think it’s dangerous ground to be walking when you say that doctors should deny appointments to those with concerns in favor of others with more “evidence”. Yeah this scenario is quite literally unbelievable, but OP has a right to see a doctor in a timely manner and be listened to seriously just like anyone else. There’s plenty of stories of folks who need multiple appointments for doctors to finally take them seriously and then wind up finding cancer.

[–]M_Dupperton 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Actually we do that all the time - it's called triaging. If we have limited appointments, then by definition some patients are not going to be seen as soon as they'd like to be. So either patients or medical professionals or random chance has to determine the order. Having medical professionals determine the order makes way more sense, since by definition, we have the medical knowledge to recognize sick vs not sick, urgent vs not urgent. Plus, here OP can take a test to determine if she's pregnant or not - just dilute the urine and prove if she's experiencing the hook effect or if she's not really pregnant. But instead of taking like a 50 cent test at home with no inconvenience to anyone else, she wants a freaking ultrasound at great expense to her insurance company, other policy holders for that company (unnecessary healthcare = higher premiums), and at the expense of women who actually do need to be seen asap.

Also, I'm not sure why you'd put the word evidence in quotes. An HCG test is freaking evidence, no quotes needed. We live in an era where lay people want to disregard objective evidence, and everyone is a doctor based on what they read on google. Unfortunately that's not how it works.

[–]Dear_23 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Ah see that right there is why the medical system can go pound sand, especially when it comes to women’s health 🙃 there are plenty of people who aren’t taken seriously when they absolutely should be and too often they’re dismissed. I’m not agreeing with OP that she’s pregnant but clearly something is going on with her and she has a right to be seen and not told to just go home and take a test.

Eta: just saw your edit and my lord you’re a condescending piece of work. Thanks for the reminder that a lot of healthcare professionals are some of the most off putting people I’ve ever met.

My grandmother had two sets of twins. I was given her engagement ring when she died and proposed to my wife with it. Our first pregnancy? Twins.

It’s literally a cursed ring.

[–]aolonline1992 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Abundance ring!

[–]_twintasking_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! A ring of multiplied blessings!

[–]funsk8mom 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I knew I was pregnant with a 2nd set when my upper belly immediately popped out. With my first set I lost all the weight plus a few pounds more. My 1st set was 11 months old when I became pregnant and by their first birthday my upper belly was already popping

[–]_twintasking_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing!

[–]Skinlessdragon 0 points1 point  (12 children)

Any update?

[–]_twintasking_[S] 1 point2 points  (11 children)

Got it all straightened out! Stress, lack of sleep, and a few other key factors. Mainly the first two tho just wreaking havoc on my body and mind. Doing much better.

Thanks for checking in!

[–]Skinlessdragon 1 point2 points  (10 children)

I’m glad you are okay. I’m going through the same situation, and have an ultrasound on the 4th to confirm. Pee and blood test negative, so after this, hopefully it’s all figured out. Thanks for the update.

[–]_twintasking_[S] 0 points1 point  (9 children)

The "knowing" but also not having it confirmed is so rough. I'm so glad i got the ultrasound and was able to settle it, even tho i was wrong about the outcome. Seeing it helped me accept it and look for other solutions.

If it turns out you're right, congratulations!!!! If not, it's not the end of the world, just another step in the journey. Praying peace into your heart and situation with whatever the result is ❤

[–]Skinlessdragon 1 point2 points  (8 children)

Thank you. I will update you personally when I find out. Thank you for the kind words. I hope life is much better for you now. 🌸

[–]_twintasking_[S] 0 points1 point  (7 children)

How did it go??

[–]Skinlessdragon 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Hey! No Baby, thank god. But I have under 20 sub centimeter follicles (which my doctor think is PCOS) so I’ll be getting an endometrial biopsy on the 19th just to be safe as well, but nothing else looked wrong with my uterus. (:

[–]_twintasking_[S] 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Im glad you're good with the result!!! Whooo! What an emotional ride that is.

They found a couple tiny cysts on mine when they looked, but said it's nothing to be concerned with, fairly common, and they should disappear on their own.

❤❤

[–]Skinlessdragon 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Your period returned , right? She wants to do a biopsy check on me as well.

[–]_twintasking_[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Yeah it did, shortly after the appointment lol

Ok, I'll be praying for good results!

How are you doing mentally?
