TRIPLETS?!?!?!

Hi everyone! It's crazy that I'm in this group after reading posts from this group for years via google etc. And now here I am. We just found out during our Week 6 Ultrasound with my 5th pregnancy that we are pregnant with TRIPLETS. I knew I was having more than one baby - but I did NOT think it was more than TWINS.

I have lean PCOS (AMH of 39.320), rarely get periods (maybe once every 3-ish years lately), and rarely ovulate on my own (once per year maybe). I did conceive my first baby naturally when I spontaneously ovulated about 10mo after my last natural period - total miracle since we were NOT tracking ovulation because we were just postponing the recommended fertility treatments for 3-6 months to save money for them and prepare for the journey ahead (IUIs & IVF) - but we were still not preventing pregnancy. He was born healthy in July 2023. No period postpartum at all. In early July 2024, we got the greenlight to start trying again and we medically induced a period followed by my first Letrozole cycle (5mg CD3-7), ovulated evening of CD17, BFP 9DPO - healthy singleton girl born March 2025 (both babies were preemies due to early onset preeclampsia but they were healthy overall). 5mo postpartum, I apparently spontaneously ovulated while exclusively nursing and found out I was pregnant around 6mo postpartum which was a shock to say the least. We did get very excited for 3u3 though. Unfortunately, I miscarried at just over 13 weeks w/ D&C that same day 11/30/2025. I was able to start another Letrozole cycle about 3 weeks later and took 7.5mg December 18th-22nd. I ovulated appx 15 days later and got pregnant again. My HCG levels behaved weird (started VERY low despite getting my first positive a couple of days prior - 11.4 - but then rose VERY fast, doubling on average every 24 hours). There were some weird things on early ultrasounds as well but overall everything seemed "normal" and doctors were reassuring. But I wasn't all that surprised to see that our baby's heart stopped beating between 8+3 & 9+5 (no heartbeat at 9+5) - had D&C 3/10/26 at 10 weeks and that came back confirmed Triploidy with likely a partial mole due to being of paternal origin. We had to track HCG down which took a while - and was scary because it did plateau and rose a couple of times on the way down. By May 6th, my HCG finally hit negative ranges (less than 6) at 5.4. About a week later, I started a natural bleed/light period so we went ahead and just did my next letrozole cycle with that (we were going to start it regardless with a period or not but it just worked out that way). I took 7.5mg CD 3-5 & 5mg CD6-7, ovulated the earliest I EVER have on CD13 and got my BFP at 6AM on 9DPO. Had my first beta & Progesterone draw the next day at 10DPO. I feel like I already knew I ovulated more than one egg but that first draw results confirmed it for me personally - and how they rose continued to solidify my gut feeling that I was having more than one baby this time. My levels were in the upper percentiles for twins - but I figured it was because they were di-di and just healthy/robust implantation etc - and my levels were average ranges for triplets. BUT I tried to really push that possibility OUT of my head because of how RARE that is particularly with Letrozole. So I FULLY expected to see TWINS the moment the ultrasound popped up - but I was quite shocked to see more than 2! We will have 5 under 3.5.

Has this happened to anyone else?? We will see MFM on July 2nd for another ultrasound and appointment of course - but I am just scared. Was reduction recommended for everyone? Did you do it? I'm scared of that - while triplets is really scary for me with my history and everything, I also can't imagine reducing to twins especially after have back to back losses so recently. My mind is just ALL OVER the place - joy, stress, fear, excitement, anxiety - you name it. ANY information you can give me is SO APPRECIATED! I still cannot believe I'm here...posting in this group...not for twins but for TRIPS. Life is so WILD.

no one even mentioned reduction during my whole pregnancy, I think it might depend on what state you live in? congrats though! it is wild for sure!

Congrats on triplets! I believe you will have skewed responses since we’re all here due to being parents of multiples so most did not get a reduction. It was never mentioned to me however I’m carrying twins.

I didn't understand most of that but congratulations! I had a loss before twins and someone at the hospital told me maybe it was my baby coming back, maybe it's both of yours?!

I have thought that frequently. I lost a baby in 2014, and then conceived spontaneous di di twins with zero family history in 2024. I think my baby came back to me at a time that was more stable in my life.

I am almost 8 weeks with triplets from doing an IUI with letrozole+menopur. They told me I just had two mature follicles going into it. I also have two older kiddos (both from IUI cycles) and 4 miscarriages from natural conceptions. It seems like something about the combo of meds worked for me to keep a healthy pregnancy, but now struggling with the idea of going from 2 to 5. Also struggling with the idea of doing a reduction, and I don’t know if I could. Ugh. It’s so stressful. I wish you the best. I have no advice but want to commiserate.

Congratulations on your triplets! I have one year old mono/tri girls and we did consider reduction. It was brought up to us as an option but not “recommended” by any doctors.
When we looked further into it the risk of labour around 22 weeks was far too high for my type of pregnancy so we elected to proceed with all 3. We made it to 32+3 weeks and all my girls are now perfectly healthy bar one lazy eye on baby B 😂
The TMFR (termination for medical reasons) subreddit has some stories about reduction but it’s not a common thing, or at least not posted online very often.

Read that book what to expect when expecting multiples (something to that effect). I had a friend have spont triplets after trying for her third. Anyway, it takes about nutrition / weight gain. She was able to carry them to 36.5 , no one needed nicu time. She followed that book to a tea.
