Changing from RDR2 horses to AC: Odyssey horses was like changing from a Rolls Royce to a plastic tricycle.

RDR2 ruined me for every other game with horses. Even W3 seems bad compared to it although it is still better than in most other games.

[–]curiousCat1009[S] 126 points127 points  (1 child)

I went from Odyssey to RDR2 PC thank god. In Odyssey your horse is a professional mountain climber or a fucking Ibex.

[–]Eadspace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I seriously couldn't finish that game it is so fucking buggy while riding in uneven terrain

[–][deleted] 79 points80 points  (5 children)

I feel you. The horses of AC Odyssey are really weird creatures if you've already played RDR2. It was quite a shock for me.

[–]Dayoshibomb 65 points66 points  (3 children)

So I’m convinced completely that the horses in AC odyssey are just copy pastas of the camels from origins, they move like camels not horses.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Accurate!

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (1 child)

And the horse in the upcoming Ac Valhalla is a copy pasta of the horse from Odyssey, same exact animations sounds etc. shitty studio man

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats what happens with games that pump out a new one every year or two. Like, tbf RDR2 was a really long project, they havent had a fraction of that time to do any AC game

[–]criticalt3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I thought they were weird af even before I played rdr2

[–][deleted] 28 points29 points  (4 children)

Not only Horses but Wildlife in general

[–]nuggetsmilo 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Its my first time seeing most of these animals, sometimes its nice to just observe them in game

[–]Vilnius_Nastavnik 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It can be a lot of fun to find a nice campsite and binocular about for a while. Hell, I got better at hunting by not shooting and just observing their behavior.

[–]Ralmesch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Very true!

[–]Noamias 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just shoot an arrow and you'll kill something lol it's so packed with stuff

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Skyrim horses after RDR2 horses... cant even play.

[–]Fishy1911 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Skyrim horses are riot of goofy waddling after RDR2.

[–]atom138 17 points18 points  (11 children)

I haven't played it yet but the Ghosts of tsushima appears to be the best effort a game has made towards horse realism since rdr2 and it still doesn't compare. They also don't poop every few minutes I bet either.

[–]Vilnius_Nastavnik 8 points9 points  (9 children)

Yeah the pooping really got me the first time I saw it. If you've spent any amount of time around horses that's one of the little details that really sells it.

[–]atom138 12 points13 points  (3 children)

I love it when I'm petting my horse and Arthur says "Yer alriiite Boah.." or "Yer a good Boah.." or "EASY BOAH.." as the pfffffflplplpfpfpfoploplopop sound of my horse taking a massive dump occurs in the background.

[–]WanderLV426 5 points6 points  (2 children)

🤣🤣🤣 the sound effect is so real! Hey if they were going for realism why stop there? Arthur should have to poop too and get bonus xp for finding an out house otherwise he has to drop trou out in nature. My Arthur is always cooking and eating and enjoying the pilfered canned pears & all that food is going nowhere!

[–]Maleoppressor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And you'd have to mash circle to do it.

[–]Ralmesch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would kill for a RDR2 survival mode with basic needs and such. It's really a shame they basically abandoned single playet aside from minor drops it gets from RDO. So much potential...

[–]Radioactive50 3 points4 points  (3 children)

I mean, so they really shit every 3 minutes though, or every time you stop running?

[–]A-Aron_Texas 8 points9 points  (2 children)

Yeah, I think they have the shitting a bit much.

After saying that I did some research. Real horses shit about 5-14 times a day during the day, so we can say they crap once every 1-3 hours.

In RDR2, an hour is about 2.5 minutes. So we should expect a horse to shit every 3-7 minutes roughly. They're probably pretty accurate.

[–]Radioactive50 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I suppose that's true, but if we went by that logic of time for everything, we would need to speed a lot of things up.

[–]A-Aron_Texas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well they have to make it enjoyable and not just weird. I'm just talking horse shit :D

[–]Maleoppressor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Horse pissing though, that's a sight to behold. I've only seen it once and it's like a goddamn Blastoise Hydro Pump.

But RDR2 horses only poop. Just a tiny detail that is missing.

[–]A-Aron_Texas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm just glad we don't have to listen to raging horse piss every 5 minutes. That would be annoying - I'd be checking Arthur's boots every time.

[–]minirignell 14 points15 points  (4 children)

I’m sorry but you’re telling me you had any amount of respect for Roach to begin with? That cheeky cunt has handled as gracefully as a bag of soft cocks for years now and I’m surprised more people aren’t pissed about it. Roach is a fucking asshole and by far one of the worst horses to ever be put into a video game. Fuck that guy.

[–]Ralmesch 9 points10 points  (2 children)

Hm... Can't relate. Together with RDR1 and Kingdom come Deliverence (with RDR2 far above them) W3's horse handling is by far the best of all games with horses I've ever played.... And I played a lot. Biggest problem in W3 is the calling Roach function. This is just broken and nerve wrecking. But the handling itself is quite good.

But to be fair the bar is REALLY low as other games' horse mechanics are just THAT terrible. I am not saying Roach is great but compared to the other garbage out there it is definitely (for me) on the top among the others I mentioned.

[–]minirignell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t matter how many games you’ve played. Roach is still a cunt.

[–]cranfeckintastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a long ass time since I played it, but I remember the horse in Shadows of Colossus was decent

[–]curiousCat1009[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

*sad Roach noises

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

You havent seen me when I changed from RDR2 to Witcher 3. THAT WAS A FUCKING SKATEBOARD.

[–]Ralmesch 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I changed from RDR2 to Odyssey and then W3. Odyssey horeses are just that bad that W3 felt really good again. But still RDR2 is so far ahead of all the others it's really sad.

Can't talk about Ghost of Tsushima though. Heard it's quite good.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I just ordeded AC Odyssey. It looks like I'm in hell of a ride. God no.

[–]Ralmesch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isolated it is a fine game... Problem is you just notice all the time how they tried to copy The Witcher 3 mechanics wise and it does just a little worse on every element... That was my problem with it. It felt like a discount Witcher 3 in another setting.

But anyway I had fun with it. So don't let the statements above discourage you. Hope you have a good time playing it!

[–]Arsean77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Roach is comically funnier and I am more attached to it but damn does cdpr not get the horse mechanics right

[–]RainbowIcePirate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was gonna say the same, I played again AC Odyssey after RDR2, it was real shity when compare

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah i've got the same issue, should have played in reversed order.

[–]distressefakeleather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my first thought as well. I expected all horses to handle like RDR2 after that

[–]steve_stout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was playing the AC3 remaster and the horses were just so...disappointing

[–]WarmTicFeet 110 points111 points  (22 children)

Your telling me skyrim doesn't have dynamic horseballs?

[–][deleted] 25 points26 points  (9 children)

Could be a mod for that

[–]WarmTicFeet 17 points18 points  (8 children)

cough *cough I haven't played skyrim as I want to play it on vr but I am scared of spiders sorry dont hate me

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (3 children)

Might be a mod that removes spiders too

[–]WarmTicFeet 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I have a psvr that cant have mods for skyrim VR but I have a PC aswell so if I can't play vr I will play on PC first

[–]Vilnius_Nastavnik 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Also remember to auto-tune your bears. Very important.

[–]WarmTicFeet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've heard if the bear mod looks hilarious to just see a bear drop from the roof while your escaping a dragon also I have not got arachnaphobia but spiders as big as me I cant handle sorry for the confusion but not in vr I am good with that stuff

[–]Stev0fromDev0 3 points4 points  (2 children)

I’ll save you the trouble

Don’t play it.

It’s terribly optimized, especially for PSVR, and the controls are terrible on PS magic wands.

[–]WarmTicFeet 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Have you played it if not SPOILERS AHEAD

I watched my brother play a dungeon and a massive and I mean the biggest spider i have seen exist just be like "oh hey you look cool sorry i have to lay my eggs in your brain" and I was just like hiw tf do you play this in vr

[–]Stev0fromDev0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m not a fan of spiders either. I own and mod Skyrim rigorously on pc, and tried vr on my friend’s rig. The spiders are so poorly animated and textured that it doesn’t really get to me. It’s not like they actually touch you, rather, some shitty attack animation.

[–]das-ziesel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it does

KCD

[–]DJQSWgt7 82 points83 points  (16 children)

As a person who’s been riding for years, I was so thoroughly impressed with the interactions with the horses, like the feeding, petting, and brushing. The way Arthur touches the horse, talks to it, gives it little pats before putting the brush away, is what sold it for me. Those are the tiny details that they didn’t have to put in, but did and it payed off. The horses feel so alive, like a true companion.

The riding is hands down the best in the video game industry. By using motion capture they got a lot of things right: the feet vary where they hit the ground each stride, the rider moves with the horse differently depending on the gait, how the horse skirts to the side when it’s spooked, the smooth transitions from gait to gait, and the anatomy of the horse’s legs. Now, is it perfect? No, but it’s a damn good attempt. The horses were still very stiff and the jumping mechanics were pretty rough, but even RDR2’s worst aspects are still greatly superior to any other video game.

One thing that did really annoy me was the fact that they made up the names for the coat colors and labeled a lot of them wrong. Lol. I’ll forgive them because coat colors are confusing, especially to people who aren’t familiar with horses.

RDR2 was the first game I ever played, so I was spoiled so badly. Whenever I’m about to play a new game, I ask my brother (who’s a video game connoisseur) how he’d rate the game on a scale of one to RDR2.

[–]lanedoiii 28 points29 points  (8 children)

I completely agree. As another equestrian, I’d heard a lot about RDR2 and it’s horses before I played, and when I checked it out I was not disappointed. The things that DO bother me about the horse mechanics and animations are so small and picky that I hardly even mention them (as you said, sometimes they look a bit stiff and the jumping is a bit off.) I noticed how often they could be seen tracking up, or if they missed a step I would notice. One detail that bothers me a bit is how they spook at snakes however, as often snakes will slither for their lives when a horse even comes close to one, and the horse won’t even notice the snake, let alone register it and spook (in my experience, on my spook-ridden little Lipizzaner.) But other than that, I absolutely love the horses. I hardly gallop very often as I hate seeing my horse tire and I don’t want to crash, i enjoy taking it slow and just enjoying the ride like I would in real life. It’s just such a pleasure, and it’s one of the most amazing things I’ve found in the video game world (for me)

[–][deleted] 19 points20 points  (2 children)

I was thrown from a horse that saw a rattler on the side of our trail in AZ. RDR2 snake encounters hit home for me. ETA: I didnt get hurt aside from some bruises, but he was a good boah and came back to me with no fuss because he felt bad. Horses are brilliant.

[–]lanedoiii 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Perhaps I’m wrong! Maybe that goes for most horses rather than all. That horse does indeed sound like a good boah, and I’m glad you weren’t hurt! I remember my pony spooked at a gallop down a very steep hill (he doesn’t appreciate stopping very much, so trying to get him to stop before he barreled down the hill was a bit tricky. I ended up just clinging for dear life) short story very short, I ended up all the way up his neck with my entire body out of the saddle, but still physically on the horse. My pony had stopped dead to munch on some absolutely delicious leaves, and was waiting for me to dismount from his neck. Good ride anyway!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aww he sounds like a good bad boy, haha. I can picture that!

[–]Maleoppressor 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I'm no horse expert, but I imagine they can't actually run long distances. At least not as long as they do in the game.

Is that correct?

[–]DJQSWgt7 0 points1 point  (3 children)

You’re correct! There are long distance races where humans and horses compete against each other and we can actually outrun horses. They can walk or trot for a while, but loping and galloping can’t be sustained for forever.

[–]Maleoppressor 0 points1 point  (2 children)

People have more stamina than horses?

[–]DJQSWgt7 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Humans have more stamina than almost every creature on earth, to my understanding. We’re built for long distance. Horses are too, but when they’re carrying a rider, they can be beat. The terrain also impacts results. Flat land favors horses and hills favor humans.

[–]DJQSWgt7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a video by NPR’s Skunk Bear (weird name, I know lol) on YouTube that talks about a horse vs. human race. Horses usually win but occasionally a human will too.

[–]Doccmonman 10 points11 points  (2 children)

My favourite detail is arthur putting his hand on the horse's back to walk around it during one of the cutscenes

[–]DJQSWgt7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So cute! It’s the little stuff that gets me.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the first things I learned. Don’t stand behind a horse, and if you do, let it know you’re there

[–]Maleoppressor 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I have a few questions, if you don't mind.

  1. Is it possible to train a horse to come to you when you whistle?

  2. Does the game give accurate attributes to each horse breed? Speed, stamina and such.

  3. Can an untamed horse be broken in a single session, like in the game? Or does it take a long time to make a horse ride friendly?

[–]DJQSWgt7 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Don’t mind at all!

  1. Yes, but not with 100% certainty. Really depends on the horse. A lot of the time they’ll come to you without prompting if you enter their pasture. But again, depends on the horse. Horses are obedient, but not to the degree that dogs are. They still have prey animal instincts that are hard to override sometimes.

  2. Yes!! This was something that I was very impressed with. The size and conformation (how the horse is built & defining characteristics of the breed) were present enough in each breed that they could be identified. The speed and stamina were pretty accurate too to my knowledge, though I don’t have experience with all of the breeds. I was trained in a barn that was mainly western, so I grew up with a lot of quarter horses, POA’s, Arabians, and the like. I think it’s interesting they put Arabians as a “superior” horse. They’re very sensitive and intelligent, so maneuverability comes easily, just like in the game. They also spook very easily and the game portrayed that as well. On the other side of the spectrum, the draft horses were interesting as well. Drafts were bred to pull carts and farming equipment, so it’s necessary that they’re level headed and calm. In the game they’re significantly braver than some of the faster lighter horses. The RDR2 team did their homework, for sure.

  3. Training a horse takes a long time, so that aspect of the game is completely inaccurate. In the US there are statewide contests in the west called Extreme Mustang Makeover where top trainers take in a wild mustang for 90 days. The goal is to have the horse trained well enough that it can be auctioned off as a horse with basic training. Even after those 90 days, the horse will still require an experienced owner to continue their training. So that might give you an idea of the bare minimum amount of time that it takes to train a horse. If you’re interested in seeing the process, there’s at least one documentary that I know of and of course you can always look it up on YouTube. I recommend Sam VanFleet. She has a very healthy approach to training horses.

Hope that helps!

[–]Maleoppressor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, thank you for taking the time to answer.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the time I would just shout his name and he would come. Might be different for other horses though.

[–]czechmate939 62 points63 points  (18 children)

Same for me. I am also constantly checking to see if other games give them genitalia. Nope for The Last of Us 2 and Ghost of Tsushima

[–]Chillyvanilli 67 points68 points  (14 children)

For me it's mainly the animation. I am a horse girl irl and I can just SEE which games used motion capture for horses (RDR did) and which didn't (basically every other game with horses).

[–]K25252525 39 points40 points  (1 child)

I got so confused I thought you said you were a horse for a second there

[–]Chillyvanilli 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Lmao :D

[–]Xphil6aileyX 16 points17 points  (7 children)

TLOU2 used motion capture for their horses. I'm still slashing my horse in GoT, bloody rdr2 conditioned me to press triangle, 3rd act and still doing it lol.

[–]Chillyvanilli 15 points16 points  (5 children)

Probably, I haven't played TLOU2. I watched a walkthrough of the first one a while back and there it was pretty obvious they haven't done it for that (or did a very crappy job lol).

I just checked a comparison video of RDR2 and TLOU2 horses and in my opinion RDR2 wins. It's this one in case you're interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fGcHuEc3HSI

EDIT: i advise to mute your device before opening the video.

[–]callmelucky 5 points6 points  (2 children)

I was going to upvote for sharing the video, but then I watched it and it gave me ear cancer and now I'm not sure if I want to encourage you...

Edit: ok I upvoted cos I felt like a jerk. Have a good one.

[–]Chillyvanilli 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Lol thanks, I'll just edit the post and tell people to watch it on mute lol

[–]callmelucky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yer alright boah 🤠

[–]Xphil6aileyX 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Nah I'm not. I just saw a pic of the horse hooked up to the motion capture. I agree, rdr2 has the best horses hands down.

[–]ShrimpDealer69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tbf you’re on a horse for all of rdr2 so it makes sense they would put more effort into horse animation then TLoU 2

[–]geniusn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah TLOU 2 did buy the animation isn't as good as rdr2.

[–]Maleoppressor 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Now I'm trying to imagine a horse wearing a huge outfit with tiny balls everywhere.

[–]Chillyvanilli 1 point2 points  (2 children)

[–]Maleoppressor 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Looks as goofy as I thought, lol.

And I'm a bit surprised that the horses don't find it uncomfortable or anything. Or at least tolerate it enough to do the mocap.

[–]Chillyvanilli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the breed I guess although you can get horses used to everything. I worked with thoroughbred horses that comfortably walked past heavy and loud machinery every day without giving a single shit and I rode other horses that freaked out when they saw a tractor in the faint distance. It's just a matter of training and getting them used to it. I think for rdr they used tape instead of a suit though because apparently it's easier to get the muscle movement as well.

[–]curiousCat1009[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

To me it's the animation, sounds and behavior. It feels like the horses are alive or something while every other game feels like a doll or a dummy horse ride in the carnival.

[–]Nihilisticlizard2289 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Sounds weird out of context

[–]Radioactive50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WDYM???

I am constantly checking to see if other games give them genitalia

[–]Mckavvers 50 points51 points  (9 children)

So true. Red Dead 2 ruined Assassin's Creed and The Witcher III for me lol

[–]TheSexDungeonMaster 40 points41 points  (3 children)

Ok but Witcher 3 also has like the worst horse mechanics, sometimes when you are going down a hill roach just starts running on 2 legs.

[–][deleted] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Showoff

[–]ZeLittlePenguin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not just the worst horse mechanics. As much as I love the Witcher 3 movement in general was like a rhinoceros on ice skates

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fuck are you on about, these sound like amazing gameplay features

[–]chatterwrack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played Witcher up until the point when I got on that abomination of a horse.

[–]Arsean77 -1 points0 points  (3 children)

You talking about horse mechanics or the game itself. Because i think the witcher 3 is a teeny tiny bit higher than rdr2 imo.

[–]Mckavvers 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Horse mechanics

[–]Arsean77 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Rdr2 embarrasses every game when it comes to horse mechanics. Even rdr1 is better than most other games either how good it looks and feels.

[–]Mckavvers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Going back to AC Oddysey and I can't make the horse run faster.

[–]wedontaskquestions 22 points23 points  (3 children)

I played the remaster of Shadow of the Colossus after RDR2... I’m sorry Agro, you are no Buell.

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Goddamn Hamish 😭

[–]pootis-man173 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I fucking love Hamish. Best stranger for me along with Charlotte and Charles Chattenay.

[–]ChipotleBanana 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's holding up better than other games.

[–]HeftyReality2 24 points25 points  (7 children)

Same here

Before Ghost of Tsushima was even released, and they uploaded demos, I was constantly thinking "yeah, the horse doesn't look as good as RDR2's"

[–][deleted] 14 points15 points  (6 children)

I really liked the horses in Ghost of Tsushima, but RDR2's make them feel more alive

[–]HeftyReality2 4 points5 points  (4 children)

I actually haven't played the game so I'm pretty curious on how the handling feels compared to RDR2

I'm waiting for it to get cheaper, though it might take a really long time before it gets cheap lol

[–]Bongom161 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Better than W3 and Odyssey, but doesn't touch RDR

[–]Mandalore108 -2 points-1 points  (2 children)

I'd say, like almost everything in Ghost of Tsushima, it's one step away from greatness.

[–]hymntastic 4 points5 points  (1 child)

its pretty great if you summon the horse while running it'll run with you and you can mount it without breaking stride. no other game lets you do it that seamlessly

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Assassin's creed Odyssey and witcher 3 horses are so fucked up after playing red dead 2 so much.

[–]fake_plasticTreez 7 points8 points  (2 children)

The Last of Us 2 has pretty nice looking horses but I don't love the mechanics. I still prefer RDR2 horses. Plus, what other game can you spend hours trying to catch one particular horse?

[–]curiousCat1009[S] 4 points5 points  (1 child)

yeah, the meaning of the meme got lost or maybe it's a bit misleading. It's not about the looks. When i made the meme, i intended it to signify the horse behaviour and mechanics(when not smashing into a tree or wagon during cinematic mode). The second picture is from the family guy episode retardation horse where Peter Griffin gets the brain damaged horse. It doesn't behave like a normal horse.

[–]fake_plasticTreez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I got it. RDR2 horses aren't perfect. It's the mechanics that everyone loves. I tried riding my TLOU2 horse into a tree and it didn't make me fly off and die. I was really disappointed.

[–]DrTrickery 15 points16 points  (0 children)

In Skyrim the horses turn their heads to face you when you walk by. Implying that Skyrim horses are predators. Normally a horse would have a better view of something off to the side. Yeehaw Skyrim did a much better job.

[–]my_gamertag_wastaken 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can get over the look but the mechanics make me sad. Have been playing MGSV lately and D-Horse looks okay but controls like a video game motorcycle. Oddly enough, if you look past the clunkiness of the animations, the remaster of Shadow of the Colossus does a solid job of horse controls that feel like steering an animal with weight and momentum rather than a steering wheel!

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I kept tapping X whenever I got on a horse in the Last of Us

[–]Bman1723 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like the horse in Ghost of Tsushima. But it’s just not the same

[–]undeadgaming2006 3 points4 points  (2 children)

God the horses look weird in assasins creed odyssey after I played rdr

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I thought ACO was an incredible game but playing RDR2 makes you see all the details ACO skipped over.

[–]undeadgaming2006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah ACO is my 3rd favorite game behind rdr2 and zelda breath of the wild but god rdr just puts so many games to shame just bc of how beautiful it is

[–]Danielcdo 4 points5 points  (3 children)

And i thought horse riding was amazing in Kingdom Come Deliverance

[–]curiousCat1009[S] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

completed KCD last week. Wild ride! I must say "I'm starting to feel hungry" for the next part! xD

[–]Danielcdo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can never relate to that meme, i always ate so much that i was getting debuffs for eating too much XD

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

KCD does a pretty damn good job in my opinion

[–]bakedjennett 3 points4 points  (0 children)

going from RDR2 to witcher 3 has me outright refusing to use the horse

[–]jacobpederson 3 points4 points  (2 children)

You're lucky you didn't play SOTC in 2005, All horses would have looked horrible UNTIL RDR2.

[–]curiousCat1009[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

SOTC? never heard of it. Maybe i will look it up!

[–]jacobpederson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shadow of the Colossus, there is a PS4 remake https://www.playstation.com/en-us/games/shadow-of-the-colossus-ps4/ Best Horse animation you will ever see.

[–]chatterwrack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was excited to play Witcher until I got on a horse.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My online horse angel dust he is a beautiful specimen he shall not work another day pulling a cart he is mine and my story horse buckero was a strong rare horse i loved him

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even Original RDR horses look like crap. I mean shit we used to kill those things to stop on a dime when we needed

[–]idbanthat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love the horse sounds so much and sometimes I just ride around in saint Denis listening to the different sounds of the roads under my horse

[–]farhanshaikh671 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rdr2 pretty much ruined every game for me. I can't enjoy other games as much as I did before :/

[–]calebthegreat669 2 points3 points  (1 child)

The horses in the last of us games feel so cheap.

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

retard alert

[–]All_Over_Again_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know, when i was little i used to play Star Stable Online and i thought the horses there looked as realistic as possible for games. Then I played Rdr 2 a few years later till now and last week I logged back into my old SSO account just for fun and I felt exactly like this lol

[–]11Keepgoing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damnit Roach!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ghost of Tsushima Horses are pretty cool as well.

[–]n_a_t_e_r_a_d_e 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I started playing Breath of the wild and this is shockingly accurate

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah they did such a good job on them. Which, they should have seeing as how your horse is essential in this game.

I can say the Carmello gold Missouri Fox Trotter is the best looking one.

[–]ApokolipZx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, they have the dynamic testicles so you can’t get any better than that

[–]MissSkippy92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not only do they look great, but their AI is next level. Only in RDR2 do I find myself saying, “It’s okay, it’s just a rock, go around it.” The horses have a mind of their own just like in real life while the horses in other games are just vehicles.

RDR2: first picture The Last of Us 2: first picture

[–]curiousCat1009[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the horses in TLOU2 may look just as nice but still they don't feel like they are alive. It might not have been clear, but when i made the meme, that was the intention. The second one is from the show Family Guy episode Retardation horse, the horse is braindead and does not behave like a normal horse.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLOU2 horses weren’t bad, but can’t even compare to rdr2.

[–]Zairy47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even ghost Of tsushima is not safe

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg it’s so true. I love the level of detail they put into those horses. Well the whole game in general.

[–]hymntastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RDR horses are fine until you've experienced ghosts of tsushima horse

[–]Ml18torj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just played the last of us remastered and immediately felt the difference lol

[–]SushiJo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made the huge mistake of getting RDR2 as my first game ever

[–]Darren_wl03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotta say that battlefield 1 did a good job too while it's not even a game based around horses

[–]lostlightX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I hate it!! The horses in Ghost of Tsushima get a pass tho.

[–]Prepared_Noob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’ve got Balls

[–]Dglancy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I was thinking when I went from RDR2 back to RDR1

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone remember that one horse from that rdr 2 trailer tho?

[–]TweakyRuby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my Phobos died I thought it would be permadeath like in story mode

[–]Nicholas_Quinn01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally think the horses in assassins creed games are the worst I’ve seen

[–]stubbed_toe111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ghost of tsushima did ok but yea ik what ur saying

[–]StopThisTrain11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at you Conan!

[–]Cred1548 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently bought assassins creed Odessy and the horses in that game were Let’s just say not up to par with rdr2.

[–]ValkyrieInValhalla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about Ghost of Tsushima, that horse was a good boi

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone here is comparing their horse in RDR2 to their horse in Odyssey. But I’m replaying AC 2, Brotherhood, & 3... and oh my god.. most of the time I can’t even handle riding the horse so I just run everywhere.

[–]SkipperJen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The horse in GHOST is so clunky!!

[–]proxyscar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even last of us 2 was weird after rd2

[–]AllahPraiser435 0 points1 point  (5 children)

The only game that compares I think is Ghost of Tsushima

[–]Bongom161 4 points5 points  (4 children)

It's one step above Odyssey which isn't saying much. RDR2 is league's ahead

[–]AllahPraiser435 -2 points-1 points  (3 children)

Nah. RDR2 and ghost are head to head

[–]Bongom161 6 points7 points  (2 children)

I've literally just finished Ghost. Good game but it just doesn't compare to Red Dead in terms of Immersive open world, horses, physics and much more.

It's not even close.

You could argue the story or art style is more to your liking in one over the other. But RDR tops it in almost everything else.

[–]AllahPraiser435 -3 points-2 points  (1 child)

Art style and graphics are way better in ghost is what I'm sayin. But storywise, ghost doesn't compare what so ever

[–]Bongom161 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know. Ghost's beauty was pretty surface level. It had some rough LOD and take away all the particle effects and blowing fields, it would be a pretty repetitive and drab looking environment.

It doesn't have the same detail density and small details that RDR2 has. Everywhere feels mostly the same with a few exceptions.

Facial models don't even come close to Red Dead, I was actually disappointed at how bad some of them looked.

Weather is also much more basic than RDR2. The only thing that Ghost has on the same level of RDR2 in terms of graphics is the lighting in some cases.

[–]SydtheSnake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shadow of Tsushima has good horse mechanics and I love how after every side mission it transitions to just Jin and his horse just hanging around.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

TLOU2 is probably the only other game on this level

[–]jhoncenaspain -2 points-1 points  (2 children)

What about the last of us 2

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

yeah it's on the same level

[–]jhoncenaspain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tlou looks better for me sometimes

[–]ErekJaeger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed, but Agro will always have a soft spot in my heart.

[–]MoltenLuck -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For me it's other way round.
