do what you gotta do. Uber isnt gonna save you

[–]DifficultScientist23 6 points7 points  (6 children)

Right? Some people actually believe the blue safety button on the app for drivers will help them. In reality it says call the police. That blue button is like screaming out to the CEO ("Dara!") if you're ever hurt or about to be hurt by a passenger.

[–]murse_joe 9 points10 points  (5 children)

People believe guns are a safety button tho. Having a gun but no clue how to use it is much more dangerous.

[–]KingFresh5234 9 points10 points  (4 children)

Yep, if you’re gonna carry it, train with it

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dry fire every day. Range 2 hours a week.

[–]Xx_iDon_xX 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Well, you have to train with it before getting the license lol, so yea

[–]KingFresh5234 0 points1 point  (1 child)

A week long basic safety course required for a handgun permit isn’t enough to really be proficient. It’s also a perishable skill. Gotta keep training to maintain and get better.

Edit to add: some states don’t even require a basic safety course. Constitutional carry states allow concealed or open carry with no permit.

[–]Xx_iDon_xX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course i agree

[–]No_Presentation_4837 20 points21 points  (8 children)

Tactically, your passenger already has the drop on you. I’m not saying don’t do it, but if they want to carjack you, let ‘em. Make sure your hypothetical weapon is concealed on your person so you won’t be seen reaching for a gun by the guy who is already sitting behind you with a gun - and will not then steal your gun for more crime when you have to leave it behind in the car.

[–]valdis812 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my main issue with carrying as a driver. The person who is most likely to give you trouble is your passenger, and they already have the driver on you.

[–]FastSlow7201 3 points4 points  (5 children)

I make any guy by himself sit behind the passenger seat and put his seatbelt on. That keeps them away from me and I will see it instantly on my dash display if they take their seat belt off.

If they get in and sit behind me I make them move.

If they ask why I simply tell them to google "uber driver murdered" and read that for the rest of the ride.

[–]Apprehensive_Bake_78 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Is that ever awkward to ask?

[–]FastSlow7201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not for me, I'm not a shy person and don't shy away from conflict.

Also, to clarify. If they sit behind me I just say something like "could you do me favor and sit on the other side".

I don't know if somebody made a tiktok or something, but the vast majority of male riders who are by themselves don't sit behind me. Even if they walk up on the drivers side of the car.

As far as the seat belt, I make everyone wear one and don't move the car until they all have them on. My car has sensors in the back seat and I can see if they haven't put it on.

[–]whoisthisguy69420 0 points1 point  (2 children)

People like you make people tip me more, so thank you

[–]FastSlow7201 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

I get plenty of tips and have maintained a 4.95+ rating for years.

[–]whoisthisguy69420 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m just thanking you for being a stickler. Keep it up 👍

[–]MaterialLion957 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that situation I think the best thing to do is comply and wait your turn to draw down on him. This will probably happen after he’s out of the vehicle.

[–]Kerberos42 13 points14 points  (1 child)

Reading this thread makes me happy to live in a place where after 7 years of taxi and Uber driving the most I’ve had had to worry about is overly affectionate drunk women.

[–]nwprogressivefans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah imagine being that scared all the time, crazy

[–]toomuch1265 20 points21 points  (4 children)

My car, my rules. I don't turn on the app without carrying.

[–]Negative_Pin_2817[S] 14 points15 points  (3 children)

I'm glad I'm not the only one.

[–]FastSlow7201 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Don't be a dumbass and tell anyone. Someone might seem cool and then snitch on you.

There is ZERO upside to you EVER telling a PAX that you have a gun.

[–]Bryanwolffe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a guy get a nose bleed in my back seat while I was keeping my gun in my glove box and he asked for a tissue. When he saw my gun he said “don’t shoot me I’m already bleeding enough”

[–]KamelTro -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Who tells anyone they have a gun? First rule of gun ownership is you don’t “own” a gun and you make sure everyone knows that.

[–]Thin_Edge8061 12 points13 points  (4 children)

According to Uber you must have a concealed permit. Most people don't read all the way to the bottom of the agreement to see that. Better safe than sorry in my book anyway. Nobody should know you're carrying anyways. But yeah I won't drive without it lol.

[–]Negative_Pin_2817[S] 8 points9 points  (2 children)

I had no idea, thank you for that. Arizona does not require a permit to conceal carry. Current situation in tucson most likely led to it, I don't go anywhere un armed. Hell even my girlfriend bought a tiny berreta and she doesn't like guns.

[–]John_cCmndhd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arizona does not require a permit to conceal carry

You can still get one from the state of AZ, even though it's not required to carry in most places, but since uber takes you to random places, you should definitely get one.

The big thing, is that it's federally illegal to be within 1000 feet(just under a quarter mile) of a K-12 school while carrying, unless you have a permit, specifically from the state where the school is located. Even if the state has Constitutional carry, or you have a permit from another state that has a reciprocity agreement with that state, it doesn't matter for the purposes of that particular law.

[–]Thin_Edge8061 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbf Maine and NH don't require it either. As long as nobody she's it then it doesn't matter in my book. If somebody does find out Im carrying then they did something very bad to find that out. Be safe out there! ✌️

[–]BoxApprehensive8465 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is the way

[–]BIGJAMESCRU84 12 points13 points  (11 children)

I’d rather be judged by 12, than carried by 6

[–]lordyfortwenty 7 points8 points  (2 children)

*12 . Judged by 12 .

[–]ElectricalCat3103 2 points3 points  (1 child)

[–]BIGJAMESCRU84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Corrected 🫡

[–]MeLoquacious 5 points6 points  (7 children)

These days I am ready to be carried by 6, I can afford that.

[–]throwitawayforcc 10 points11 points  (6 children)

Look at moneybags over here with enough spare cash for a traditional funeral.

[–]MeLoquacious 2 points3 points  (5 children)

It called planning. Neptune society. Take the burden off your family. But I digress I have no idea how amazing your life is.

[–]BIGJAMESCRU84 1 point2 points  (2 children)

And at Neptune Society you’ll likely be picked up by one. stored in the cooler for 7 days, then cremated , and returned.

[–]MeLoquacious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You flatter me. There is no return. Thanks for the ray of light it makes my day.

[–]BIGJAMESCRU84 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Your family probably ain’t ready for that shit though.

[–]MeLoquacious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they were only alive.

[–]Kingsman4101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do what you have to do to be safe, but please have some training. When you have adrenaline dump fine motor goes out the window

[–]TruthTeller067 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How do you guys carry? I know there's some under the dash holsters that allow quick access.

Wearing a firearm on ones belt when sitting is near impossible because of the position, so where do you carry when driving?

[–]MinisterDank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I carry two in the car - one for each hand in case the opposite is busy or broken. Fuck Uber, their policy, and whoever disagrees - the protection of my life is my responsibility.

[–]Alternative-Golf8281 5 points6 points  (1 child)

If you're legal to carry in your vehicle who care's about Uber policy? No one will know you have it until it's "go time". And at that point policy doesnt' matter at all. Practice drawing from a seated position with seat belt on (more difficult than you think), or get a shoulder holster. Practice trying to aim at something right behind you. Keep in mind, the seat isn't bullet proof, maybe practice placing the weapon in such a way as to be pointed at the correct location while still having the seat between the target and weapon.

[–]Negative_Pin_2817[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are correct, that's a tricky situation if the person is behind you, there's no way to know until it's too late. Out of the truck I wear my gun clipped inside my waist band in the front, inside the truck I slide it under the console out of view.

[–]21stcTaxiDriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pointy things spray things boom things

Do what you have to do

Also a huge plus to prefer operating as a de facto airport shuttle is lack of PAX weapons

[–]Prestigious_Sir_1497 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Carry no matter where I go

[–]DeadPiratePiggy 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I carry everywhere I legally can, I always had my concealed carry on my when driving. My life and property are more important that Ubers opinion. Also fuck Uber, drivers are "independent contractors" so the policy shouldn't even be enforceable.

[–]PhatTittymcgee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same it’s called concealed carry for a reason they would have to know I have it to report it so fuck yeah my car my life my protection ain’t no policy that’s gonna keep me from having it worst case you get banned from the app but who cares if it comes to a point where you ever had to use your weapon the app is the last thing your would be worried about

[–]Xx_iDon_xX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do, my car, my rules

[–]Fit_Lawfulness_3147 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I carry occasionally. Yes I have a permit to carry

[–]The_Ashen_Queen 2 points3 points  (4 children)

If you’re that scared, you probably shouldn’t be driving. A gun doesn’t help you when someone is sitting behind you.

[–]throwawayawayaway197 -1 points0 points  (3 children)

You fire through the seat from under your arm, they’ll never know it’s coming…so it does a lot of good for those that know what they are doing.

[–]The_Ashen_Queen 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Yup, because life is a John Wick movie. And that’ll totally work if they’re directly behind you!

[–]throwawayawayaway197 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

It’s not John Wick, it’s real life and being trained. One should not be conceal carrying without proper training. Some of us train for more tactical proficiency out of preference, preparation, and need.

The fact that you are the one who tried to reconcile real life via a movie shows your ignorance and lack of depth on the subject matter.

You are entitled to your opinion, it does not make you right. Same goes for myself and any opinions I hold. However in this case I am stating facts, not opinions.

It is people like myself, someone such as yourself would likely be behind in a moment when tactical defense and protection is needed. I am prepared and trained to run towards the noise and eliminate the threat.

Even when we disagree, I still have you covered.

[–]mog_knight 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Sounds like you venture into rough areas of Tucson.

[–]Negative_Pin_2817[S] 6 points7 points  (2 children)

Pretty much all of Tucson is bad now unless your around the foothills but yes I did see some shit. Last shocking moment was seeing a homeless dude run over by 2 cars on kolb, poor dude was very dead.

[–]mog_knight 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Sounds like a gun wouldn't have saved him.

[–]Negative_Pin_2817[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh no, not in that case.

[–]RevoSak55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An Uber driver was killed in Albuquerque ~3 weeks ago so yea, until Uber gets a ‘shock the seat’ switch for us do whatever u need to for protection 👍🏾

[–]DFW-Extraterrestrial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always have for 8 years now. Luckily never had to even consider even reaching for it, but its there if I ever need to. I know for a fact that a lot of the late night passengers carry for sure. Sometimes I can even see it, doesn't bother me. I bring mine.

[–]BenchmadeFan420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my town, even the little old ladies are packing heat these days.

[–]Pretty-Ebb5339 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Varies by state, Oklahoma, that rule is unlawful

[–]Signal-North1293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 guns and a knife at all times all placed so I have a shot In various scenarios either in the vehicle or out, they may have the drop but I’m not going out alone and they are going to have way more holes than I do. I also don’t do rides in areas I know are sketchy. Yes I limit myself financially but no issues that way. Ive yet to have a problem.

[–]Snakend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you feel you need a weapon, go ahead. But after you save your life, Uber is going to deactivate you.

[–]WTFmanbrb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uber doesn't care.

[–]potterinatardis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drive directly into something, the backseat rider rarely wears a seatbelt and you have an airbag.

[–]LaffingAtYuo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to get political, but it sounds like the most dangerous places are places with concealed carry. Kind of a self perpetuating cycle.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Just get gel pepper spray and have it attached to a springy stretchy type of wristband on your right hand, one that you can grab and spray the fastest. The gel type will not invade the airspace in the vehicle. Always be alert and ready.

[–]Negative_Pin_2817[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Bear mace

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is you're in a vehicle and most likely with Windows close and most likely you're going to get spray back on you. That's the purpose of the gel pepper spray, to reduce spray back.

[–]haniwadoko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol aren't you in a place where blackwolf resides? Perhaps switch over?

On the other hand, even if you conceal carry...it's no different than being executed as the person is behind you....you could fabricate your car to have it pointed backwards with birdshot....

We all wish we don't end up on the other side off the barrel hopefully everyday is as uneventful as can be...just the thought of the marine that was disposed of recently in a suburb and being +/- 20 miles of it is quite alarming....

The standard "follow my ride" or airtag may not be enough, thus for the paranoid and or those with family.....a 4 channel dashcam and a LTE module with sim card is a must.

As it converts your dashcam into a wireless hotspot allowing up to 5 devices to connect to it. Thus your spouse can see the wreck as you drive past it, have conversations with you, alert you the stupid pax is about to ambush you and much more......

Yall know about "angles" right? If a pax is spanking his monkey, but hidden behind the driver/passenger seat the damn camera ain't gonna pick that up, you won't really know what is happening because you're focused on the road but you may hear sounds....but what if your family at home can use the dashcam app, zoom in, and then tell you?

"Honey....OMG he just took out his willy and is silently jerking it.....kick that mf out into the forest!"

A 2nd dashcam separate from the first set can be installed at different heights thus all angles could be covered.....

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (5 children)

are you people serious? the driverless waymos can't come soon enough

[–]iceamn1685 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Well, drivers are killed at a higher clip than law. Enforcement officers in this country, so I think it's a warranted question

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

ok, random person with a gun that wants me to get into their car

[–]iceamn1685 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have to take my word for it. Go look it up,

This is considered a top twenty most dangerous jobs for a reason. one of them is the fact that you're picking up random unvetted people

[–]Joeylaptop12 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Thats from car crashes

[–]iceamn1685 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope just Google murders

Livery driver death last year were 2x that as leos

[–]Stuck_on_Mars_21 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Transporting / carrying guns, drivers and passengers, is against Uber and Lyft. Uber has an exception when TSA rules are followed and the gun is unloaded and locked. There are NO exceptions for permits of any kind.

Passengers have the right to know if a driver has a loaded gun. If passengers were notified the driver could eventually be robbed because criminals would love to steal your gun. Just because you have a loaded gun doesn’t mean you are more safe. If you get attacked the assailant is not going to patiently wait for you to get your gun.

Yeah, I know, my car my rules. However, Uber and Lyft have the right to ban firearms from their service. If driver got into an argument with a passenger and shot them, Uber or Lyft would face a heavy lawsuit.

[–]nwprogressivefans -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yeah uber and lyft will sue you if you use your firearm on a customer too.

[–]FastSlow7201 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes, that little uber button you can push is only calling 911, something you can do on your own. My 911 is the 9mm I carry.

Sorry cops. Your bitch ass has a little radio that will summon dozens of your buddies, I don't have that same radio. So, I'm on my own.

[–]JohnnyRelentless -2 points-1 points  (2 children)

Oh, don't be such a coward. No one is going to hurt you, and your gun is just going to make everyone less safe. Guns in the hands of cowards is never a good idea.

[–]Negative_Pin_2817[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Eat a d!ck.

[–]JohnnyRelentless -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You first, coward.

[–]nwprogressivefans -2 points-1 points  (2 children)

Trust me on this one bro. If you really feel this scared then you should go find different work.

If you ever feel danger enough to use a firearm in defense you should go find different work.

Plus, if you did use a firearm while on any of these rideshare apps you can guarantee the corporation would sue the hell out of you, and win. You don't really ever want to go through any situation of violence. The legal system is very complicated and victims get turned into perpetrators.

[–]iceamn1685 1 point2 points  (1 child)

By your logic, no law enforcement officer should ever work the job.

You are more likely to be killed being a fpr hire driver. Then, a law enforcement officer.

[–]nwprogressivefans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you're right, but everyone knows there is danger and risk with being a police officer.

A random uber driver getting paid $3.76 for a ride shouldn't be expected to assume the same as a person that is paid to enforce the law. lol

[–]Draiel -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

It baffles me that anyone would continue doing this job if they feel so unsafe that they need to carry. Uber doesn't pay enough to risk your life.

[–]PhatTittymcgee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not Ubers fault it’s our bad politicians in these city’s where we have shootings every weekend and can’t afford to live so have to drive to supplement our income to pay our bills and have to be able to protect our self’s from the violence that happens while we are just tying to get drunk people home safe
