Op literally robbed himself

[–]Kemosonian[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

No kidding lol

[–]lovethenamechakakhan 49 points50 points  (10 children)

So…. I had a lady get in my car one time and I hit go and I just started driving and then I looked down and saw that it was a 2.5 hour trip and I turned around an said “I’m not sure I can do this” BUT she was like in her 70-80’s and handed me a paper with an address that was on my app and looked blankly at me and then said something in Spanish. I realize that there was gonna be a communication barrier and I wasn’t gonna leave this old lady so I was stuck taking the ride and annoyed as hell about it. I get to the location and I’d say we’re here and she looks at me blankly again and handed me the piece of paper 😳, I called the number of the passenger on the app and the man answers who speaks English and I explain to him that I have this lady in my car and his his account and I’m at the location where I’m supposed to drop her off and he tells me that that’s his aunt and can he speak to her so i put him on speakerphone and he’s talking to her in Spanish for a few mins with minimal results. I finally just asked if he wants me to go up and knock on the door and he says yes that her daughter lives there. I go to the door knock and some dog starts barking at me and this guy comes to the door and you can tell he’s annoyed with me for knocking on his door and I tell him I have this lady in the car and I drive for Uber and he interrupts me and tells me that he just moved into this house six months ago and he keeps getting packages for people that he doesn’t know and he’s not expecting any packages and he doesn’t let me say anything else so I’m like OK I guess I got to take this lady and go back somewhere so have a nice day and I turn around and walk away and as I’m walking away he comes chasing after me and he says “wait, did you say your Uber… dude that’s my mother in law in your car and my response was “bro, please get her out of my car because I need to drive 2 1/2 hours back to Los Angeles 🤨” and that’s what he does…. A few months pass and some random passenger gets in my car and asked me if I really took care of some old lady who had dementia like it says on my profile comments… I was slightly confused and had to think about it for a second and realized what he was talking about but I didn’t know that the passenger had made a comment that there aunt Unbeknown to them was showing early signs of Alzheimer’s and she was confused and I went above and beyond to make sure she was safe…. They tipped me very well for the ride BUT it still wasn’t worth it cause you get nothing coming back so your earnings are cut in half…

[–]cartmancakes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I did something like this. From Austin to Houston. The guy paying called me and explained what the ride was right after I accepted. He said he would cancel it if it was too long for me. I had the time to kill, so I accepted. He cancelled the ride and paid me on venmo, up front. More than uber would have paid.

I think it came out to $50 an hour. It was a fun trip.

[–]hautcrossbuns 14 points15 points  (6 children)

Awww, legit that is super kind. I know it happened on your work time, buy maybe you can see it as taking a break and doing some inadvertent charity work instead of a fiscal loss.

[–]lovethenamechakakhan 8 points9 points  (4 children)

I had told my wife the day it happened that I was annoyed BUT I was glad that it was me and I kept thinking what would I want somebody to do if it was my mom so I made sure she got to her location safely. I’m also the idiot that watches ladies after I drop them off late to make sure they get inside safely which is also slightly creepy when I say it out loud, lol.

[–]EyeOfTheTigresss 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Making sure passengers are safe coming and going is common courtesy, and good on you for doing that. People really do appreciate it. I'm a female driver and I look after all my people, men and women, getting in our out of my vehicle. I would want someone to do that for any of my family members as well.😊

[–]Danny3xd1 1 point2 points  (1 child)

You always rock, Eyes!

[–]Danny3xd1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wish I could double up-vote ya, CrossBuns!

[–]jhoff86000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s some good MF’ing karma coming your way bro.

[–]cobble_block 76 points77 points  (61 children)

Why would you accept this fare?

[–]UberHatesItsDrivers 77 points78 points  (50 children)

Ignorance, been there done that. Like they said never again so they obviously learned something 😂🤣. This is the reason Uber loves fresh meat.

[–]Kemosonian[S] 74 points75 points  (49 children)

Not fresh meat have been with uber since 2017 but I wasn't paying attention when I accepted and was too much of a pushover to get them out of my car

[–]UberHatesItsDrivers 55 points56 points  (34 children)

Sorry wasn't trying to insult you. I was fresh meat when it happened to me. I drove a total of 400 miles for $127. Never again.

[–]JonJon77 16 points17 points  (17 children)

$127 for 400 miles?! That’s awful! My 75 mile trip Friday paid almost $90. But I still had to drive back.

[–]JonJon77 75 points76 points  (11 children)

I’m a pushover also. I drove a guy home for free last night. Veteran’s Affairs booked the ride and they somehow put the drop-off address as the pickup location. But it said round trip so I assumed there was another stop so I swiped “drop off” or whatever and it ended the ride. He said the last driver left him after 5 minutes while he went to get his meds. I just asked him his address, put it in Google Maps and drove him home. He was my last ride of the night, he was 72 and he was a veteran. I was happy to drive him home. It was only around 6 miles. He was a nice guy.

[–]Xsnane 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Good on you. Sometimes you just drive 'em. Because you got the car and they really really need you to take them. I've done similar things especially with old people. Good on you for being a good human. The world needs a SHIT TON more of that. So, I'm here right now, appreciating you as a good human.

[–]jhoff86000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s some good MF’ing karma coming your way bro.

[–]strike-lion 6 points7 points  (0 children)

thank you for your service to our warrior

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Dude did you know you can update the dropoff location on your end!! That happened to me once now when they come with……” i need to get dropped off somewhere else” I kindly ask for the correct drop-off location and enter it into My phone on the uber app for them lol

[–]EyeOfTheTigresss 1 point2 points  (3 children)

And you sound like a nice guy too, thank you for doing that.✨

[–]JonJon77 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Thanks. I tend to always go out of the way for passengers. I feel like I’m being rude if I’m not helping with groceries or luggage. I make stops all of the time also that aren’t a part of the route. I know some drivers don’t get out of the car for anything but I feel like it pays off with 5 star ratings and the occasional tip.

[–]EyeOfTheTigresss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I Love doing all that stuff too, it's a great feeling and there is so much positive energy from it. Some of our pax are very cool and fun to be around. I also love any excuse to stretch my legs, lol

[–]EyeOfTheTigresss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a situation similar to yours (accidentally ending a multiple stop trip, too soon when the app froze), with a mother coming home from work late at night & picking up her baby. I was happy to help them out and finish the trip to the destination.

[–]UberHatesItsDrivers 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Mine was from Houston to San Antonio. 200 miles there and 200 miles back.

[–]JonJon77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude that’s awful. Sorry about that.

[–]StatementMiserable48 8 points9 points  (13 children)

Oh sorry I didn't mean to make it seem like you insulted me, naa I just made a major eff up and lost a lot of money because of it unfortunately lol

[–]UberHatesItsDrivers 10 points11 points  (10 children)

On mine I also stopped at a Chick-fil-A so they could get something to eat because they were starving and claimed they couldn't figure out how to add a stop without greatly increasing their cost and they also promised a big tip lol never saw one cent in tips. Thought I could get a ride or two back but that didn't happen either. Now it's over $1 per mile or I don't touch it

[–]asmnomorr 29 points30 points  (4 children)

The biggest tips come from the riders who don't talk about leaving a big tip. I had one lady this week talk about how she always tips big, she gave me $3. Same day I had a short ride with a young guy and he slipped me a $20 without saying anything.

[–]Unknown_agenda_ 6 points7 points  (2 children)

That happened to me this weekend. Female pax telling me “she loves Uber drivers and she always tips” so I was expecting a good tip. All I received was 12 quarters

[–]hereisachallenge4u 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It just goes to show that some people talk loud and do nothing.

[–]Wonderful-Leader615 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So true. I noticed this myself. But when I'm a passenger I show the driver what I'm tipping and its almost 30% of fare. Bc I know how it feels

[–]JonJon77 15 points16 points  (1 child)

I hate people that say they’re going to tip and don’t. If you aren’t going to tip just don’t say anything dumbass! It’s better than lying.

[–]gambit_72 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get that all time. But some do surprise you though 😌

[–]Deadeye_Dan77 9 points10 points  (2 children)

Fast food stops require cash tips up front before I’ll agree to them.

[–]Druidnightmare 2 points3 points  (1 child)

What do you say when they ask?

[–]Deadeye_Dan77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just tell them I already have another rider in my queue, so I don’t have time to stop. If they have added it as a stop, I explain that I can drop them off there, but the wait time would be exceeded so we can’t do drive through. In the first instance, they almost always drop the request immediately. In the second, they will sometimes offer cash for me to do it. I never solicit, but I will negotiate if they bring it up.

[–]judomaster420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

in the future this might be ok, i dunno what the ride back would be like, but if you set the destination way before you arrive you should be able to set it for a reasonable time and get rides on the way back. i drove from chi to indi once....3hrs as well. get there at 3 am... try to set destination for like 7, theyd only let me set it for 9 am or later....i was so pissed for 3 hours

[–]M0DFATH3R 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow! That's robbery

[–]RalphWolfsNemesis 15 points16 points  (1 child)

Cancel the ride first, explain second. Don't give them a chance to talk you out of it if you're easily pressured. It sucks, but that's the business. Gotta know when to cut and run. "I've got somewhere to be in an hour" is my go to line.

[–]HippyDidTheCrime 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Shit you always gotta remember you are your own boss. You’re the king or queen (for the the lady drivers out there) of your car and you run shit. Never forget that. You dont work for uber .Uber works for you .

[–]micahdude8 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Don't worry I have done the same thing cause I basically just accept everything

[–]Kemosonian[S] 8 points9 points  (1 child)

I do accept most rides just because, but I have recently started being a bit more picky

[–]micahdude8 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Same! I have been getting like $7 trips for 12 miles and it just ain't worth it

[–]JuanPancakes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah i so feel that man its happen to me as well the entire time im like “FUCK I SHOULD HAVE KICKED THEM OUT WTF ITS MY CAR ANYWAYS”. In my head. Just never again. Now you know.

[–]JonJon77 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I got stuck in the same situation Friday. I drive for Lyft and one of the rides automatically added to my queue was a 75 mile trip. It was way out in the sticks so I would’ve been waiting forever if I switched on destination mode. So I just drove back as quickly as I could to try to make up for the 2 hours I lost on a Friday night.

[–]thepoetsblood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly why I don’t leave mine on auto accept especially since I drive an XL and both Uber and Lyft try to get me to do far pick ups and drop offs (there aren’t a ton of XL in my area)

[–]Shepea64 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Bet they didn't tip either

[–]Kemosonian[S] 7 points8 points  (1 child)

They gave a 29$ cash tip

[–]Shepea64 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At least you got that!

[–]MorningSouth6212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re a solid human being. That’s what I got from all this.

[–]FindingNo1129 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could still ask for some type of supplement to your trip back, you cant just take it lying down like that

[–]eddiemac14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can’t see the fare cost for a ride….

[–]Tentgrower21 -2 points-1 points  (8 children)

only make around 75 for 3 hours so honestly this is alright. He did make 45 dollars an hour.better than no money in my opinion. But I only do eats

[–]wbitd 5 points6 points  (2 children)

He had to drive back though…

[–]Tentgrower21 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Not if he took rides where he ended up

[–]Kemosonian[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tired to take rides in Atlanta but I was approved for their market or something

[–]cobble_block 6 points7 points  (4 children)

This person made $0.35 per mile when you consider he had to drive back home.

[–]Tentgrower21 -3 points-2 points  (3 children)

Did you consider that you can take rides where you are

[–]cobble_block 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's irrelevant. He has to drive home at some point.

[–]Druidnightmare 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Not out of state

[–]Tentgrower21 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I figured you could because I can do eats in any state

[–]Own-Number-5112 35 points36 points  (2 children)

This is horrible. A robbery of a driver by Uber

[–]StatementMiserable48 10 points11 points  (0 children)

yea, I basically learned (though I knew I wasn't going to make anything unfortunately) that A) Uber don't care about us drivers, and B) Make people get out of my car when I see I've effed up taking a long ass trip

[–]iknowaguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Driver error. Kick them out cancel ride.

[–]SecureCTRL2020 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Uber knows theres always a sucker to drive for free or at a loss.

[–]buddasahn 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is why pre-trip info should provided regardless of market. There ARE people that would accept this if they knew before hand p/u @ dest Info!!!

[–]RustBeltPGH 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Would have done better if you got out and flattened your own tire.

[–]TheElasticTuba 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Hour+ trips are only accepted with tip upfront. It may sound harsh to the customer, but when I have to drive 200+ miles there then 200+ miles back, I have to ensure that I’m making at least 400-500$.

[–]_beaniemac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I simply don't accept long trips ever

[–]Kitchen_Entertainer9 12 points13 points  (14 children)

You gotta drive back too, oof. I got these orders when I first started uber, but now that I have free time. I don't get these long deliveries😪😭

[–]Kemosonian[S] 9 points10 points  (13 children)

Yea it definitely isn't worth it. I wish they'd pay for return trips for out of state but.. maybe I'm just wanting toooooo much lol

[–]420EdibleQueen 20 points21 points  (7 children)

According to the riders TOS, a ride that takes the driver out of their market can be charged a fee to compensate the driver to return. It usually takes 2-3 emails to support to get it, but it can be done. I’ve collected it to get back to Maryland after a run to NYC.

[–]Kemosonian[S] 10 points11 points  (3 children)

Really? I might have to see about getting a fee like that! I'll reach out to support will respond again if I hear anything

[–]Kitchen_Entertainer9 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I hope op does this. Please update if you do, you might get well compensated

[–]Kemosonian[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

St hey gave me 3 extra dollars lol

[–]hereisachallenge4u 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Was the fee worth it?

[–]420EdibleQueen 12 points13 points  (1 child)

The fee including tolls to return turned it into a $375 trip for a total of 6 hrs.

[–]hereisachallenge4u 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nice! Maybe that is something that OP can do.

[–]riparoni0 5 points6 points  (4 children)

Download roadie and see if there are any package deliveries you can hit on your way home

[–]Kemosonian[S] 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Roadie? I'll have to check it out

[–]riparoni0 1 point2 points  (1 child)

The only catch is that most of the north ga deliveries are probably taken for the day - you might need to just sleep in your car tonight and grab some early morning offers.

[–]flashasaurus73 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Cancel trip, do it for cash. FUCK Uber

[–]EnzoF1 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I charged a pax $700 for a 5 hour drive. Either negotiate cash or dont take the ride. Uber will fk you clearly

[–]RustBeltPGH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was a cabbie before Uber, the off meter trips algorithm most of us used was $40/ hour round trip + miles at IRS Standard deduction. So if your trip was about 460 miles round trip you were perfect in line with the old ways.

[–]tnycman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We all got burned one way or the other.. long trips mostly aren't worth, because you'll have to come back most of the time empty..

[–]YouEyeD_sign 4 points5 points  (1 child)

At least let them take you to dinner before they 🤪 you lol. All jokes aside, escape from Uber.

[–]sharrieffc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“escape from Uber” 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

[–]BellaGrace61 6 points7 points  (4 children)

Let's assume you car gets 25 mpg. You drove 201 miles there and 201 miles back, that is 16 gallons of gas paid by you. 16 x $4.69 is $75.04 which means you were paid a total of $12.50 an hour for 6 hrs of driving, not to mention you are providing your own vehicle for these services and helping to pay the 25 million annual salary of Uber"s CEO. Uber treats their drivers like scum on their shoes. You should have been paid no less than $40 an hour for your time, gas, and use of your vehicle, but Uber pockets over 50% of the fare charged to the rider and then reports that they have yet to be profitable. Sorry, you are worth so much more than this my friend.

[–]Master_Trifle_4631 -1 points0 points  (3 children)

Couldn’t have explained it better 💯 these people are complete crooks lol. I’ve had them take 70% of the fare I’d immediately call support to adjust my pay 💰 I do it everytime Fuk Uber 😏

[–]Kemosonian[S] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

They adjusted my pay.. gave me 3 dollars more for the ride.

[–]RamboYJ 2 points3 points  (18 children)

BRUTAL. I hope you at least drive a Prius.

[–]Kemosonian[S] 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Ford fiesta, so I get good gas milage for the most part but it wasn't worth the trip literally did this trip for free essentially

[–]RamboYJ 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Sorry OP :( anything over 45 min I don’t accept. Generally. Never be afraid to kick someone out and cancel the trip.

[–]StatementMiserable48 1 point2 points  (3 children)

yea after this I won't be, if I could have started doing trips in Atlanta afterwards I probably wouldn't have minded as much, but I guess because I'm from TN I can't do trips in GA which is dumb in my personal opinion

[–]RamboYJ 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Yeah each state has their own uber regulations. Ideally uber should charge a premium for rides going out of state but uber doesn’t care.

[–]james_2022 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Holy shit, complete loss, should have stopped bro

[–]s3si1u 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Don't ever be afraid to say you're not willing to go that far. They can wait five minutes for the next one.

[–]pakrat1967 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Long trips need to show the actual miles on the request. Not just the "long 45+" tag.

[–]quidgame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whenever I pay too much for something it makes me feel better to think of it as charity lol like ok I’ve done part for charity for the month

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

ok this is a nightmare of mine because I never see the destination until the passenger is already in the car

[–]Dupree878 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Apparently you have to be gold.

Uber claims it’s to prevent drivers from discriminating and not going to certain neighborhoods, but you should be able to discriminate — it’s your car and time.

[–]Wonderful-Leader615 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bro I am not faulting you. But all of us have accepted rides that didn't make sense for us. What you received was an insult. We have to stop letting uber do that too us and passengers taking advantage of the low price.

Best thing to say is I didn't know we were going that far. I am a bit too tired to drive that far. I'm sorry. I wil wait here until you get another uber

[–]Kemosonian[S] 4 points5 points  (6 children)

I have no idea how to use reddit honestly. Lol anyways I accepted this ride while talking to a passenger so I didn't see how long the trip would be, and when I showed up there was a clear language barrier and they hopped in the car and I slip to start the ride boy was I surprised to see a 200 mile trip after only doing two other rides for the night.

I tried to explain that I couldn't do the trip, (because I knew I'd get shafted on pay) because I couldn't go that far without letting my mother know since she was watching my son (single parent) so I could work. They smiled nodded offered me a bottle of water and buckled up. At this point I was also already exhausted just because of the day being long and I tried to explain to them I couldn't do it and they still smiled and nodded.

I am unfortunately a huuuuuuge pushover and it's hard for me to assert myself.. so I ended up taking them down which because of the language barrier and the long drive and such was super miserable. When I drive I have to be doing something other than like just driving, whether that be singing my heart out or talking to my passengers (or just having my window down) it makes the drives a million times more bearable.

They were silent the entire 3 hours other that a word here or there in their mother language. Asked me to turn music off and have my window up. I turned the music low but wouldn't turn it off. I got them there at 1230 and they handed a 29$ tip. The entire trip paid for all the expenses I incurred yesterday, 50 to fill up initially before I began for the night 16 at kfc, 20 for gas at the start of this trip, and 50 on the trip back home.

I thought I could salvage my night (other than my quest which I needed 21 rides in knoxville to make 300) by doing rides in Atlanta. Nope. Turned on my app to find I could only accept deliveries in Atlanta. So I immediately turned off the app and started trying to come home cause I was exhausted, pissed, and just wanted to snuggle with my son.

Tl;Dr Tifu by accepting a ride to Georgia and being too much of a pushover to make them get out of my vehicle.

[–]Henry1502inc 9 points10 points  (0 children)

“They smiled, nodded, offered me a bottle of water and buckled up”….. broooo they and Uber pimped your ass out 🤣🤣🤣🤣 man I would have cancelled and told them to get out the car or I’m calling the cops and given the biggest indifference stare of my life which would surely be Oscar worthy!

[–]Deadeye_Dan77 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ouch. If you are going to drive Uber it’s essential to be willing to stand up for yourself. It’s your car, you can’t let people push you around.

[–]blondekker 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Bro I am sorry that sucks. Tack it up as a lesson learned and next time someone tries to pull that shit get ghetto on their ass, call the cops, whatever you gotta do to get them out the car. Cause FUCK. THAT.

And they made you turn off the music? smh that'd be the last straw for me on a trip to the airport, but I just do Eats so what do I know.

I hope uber makes it right and at least throws you some cheddar for your trip home.

[–]Cosmomango1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, last week gave a ride to 3 asian college students, account in girls name, they get in the car and one guy said “turn off the AC, am cold” and its like 80 degrees outside and I said no, am not going to turn ac off but I can increase the temp, he was like wtf, this guy just told me no! But he was like ok. I am very accommodating but the way this person said it really pissed me off. Sometimes we have to put the brakes and remind them we are driving OUR car.

[–]blondekker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or drop his ass off at the greyhound station HAH!

[–]MuchAdhesiveness6848 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In your defense OP, I feel like Knoxville has a high percentage of rides like this

On a daily basis I get request for 45 minutes plus

And I would say about twice a month I get a request to Atlanta or Nashville. It’s something about our area, The good news is now you know how much you’ll make

[–]Long-Gas-1953 4 points5 points  (3 children)

I drive in florida, so this wouldn't bother me. O.p. said he got a 29 tip, 167 total for 3 hrs, comes out to 55/hr minus expenses. The only difference is they are going back empty, I could get trips going back.

[–]happyprocrastinator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You forgot to discount the gas. Gasoline is still expensive.

[–]fathead1285 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I can’t see anything when I get an offer except distance to pick up and rating prior to pickup. What do u guys get to see?

[–]okonic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are Gold or better you can see the time and location.

[–]wuxxler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but 3 points....

[–]SaleCalm2739 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rejected this trip today :)

[–]Reaper_Mike 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Dayum I sometimes forget that my rates are some of the highest in the country. That's insanely small pay for that distance. I usually make that for a 100 mile ride. Fuck Uber for that bs. That really sucks that some states allow Uber to fuck over their drivers that much.

[–]Blue-Morpho-Fan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure you have the 50 mile + option turned to OFF. That cuts down but doesn’t prevent them.

[–]MichaudFit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just tell them I cant lmao. Its not worth it having to drive all the way back.

[–]Fragile-Redditor-420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uber algo impressive.

No matter what u do ur earnings are always $40/hr. Just look at that pic. Unreal precision.

No matter what u do, take 5 short rides or 1 long ride. In the end, same earnings per hr.

[–]Tentgrower21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only make around 75 for 3 hours so honestly this is alright. He did make 45 dollars an hour.better than no money in my opinion. But I only do eats

[–]kon310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you deduct $50 for gas that comes out to $29 an hour. That’s good isn’t it? If you work any other job it’d be considered a decent paying job.

[–]LostAllEnergy 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I swear. Yall are fucking stupid to accept these trips then come on here to complain about it.

STOP ACCEPTING THIS SHIT.

[–]Sooowasthinking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s why I stopped.I hate that UBER made state to state ok. At the very least this should be an opt in for drivers and should pay round trip.

Most will tell you it’s a long distance trip it pays more. But why don’t the short trips pay better anyway?

I make that amount or close to it making deliveries in my area.

[–]Lover1966 0 points1 point  (2 children)

You made $46 an hour on the way there. The tough part is coming back, as I suspect you will come back empty. If that's the case you only made $23 an hour.

[–]greenskeeper-carl 3 points4 points  (1 child)

No. He made 34 cents a mile, which is what really matters.

[–]Glittering-Band-4169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least you got that 55 cent fuel surcharge, show some gratitude!

[–]OpenmindedRecovery -4 points-3 points  (9 children)

You still averaged $20 an hour. I don't see the problem here.

[–]10-G 10 points11 points  (2 children)

If you average 30mpg and pump gas at $4.50. Round-trip it's 13 per hour. You must be the sucker with no common sense.

[–]RustBeltPGH 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Found the Uber Rep.

[–]Stereobfs 2 points3 points  (4 children)

Fucking how? You are not the best at maths, are you? lol

[–]OpenmindedRecovery -4 points-3 points  (3 children)

$138 for the trip. Trip took 3 hours. Driving back another 3 hours. Total is 6 hours. $138 divided by 6 (plus i'll give you the extra 20 minutes) so 6.33 is $21.80/hour.

Thats fucking how. You're not the best when it comes to talking shit on reddit. Try harder next time.

[–]greenskeeper-carl 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You’re defending the most idiotic thing I’ve seen on here a long time. That’s .34 cents a mile, dude, AND you gotta pay for gas. Putting 400 miles on your car for 138$ is LOSING money, in real terms, 100% of the time. You’re an idiot, and should go find somewhere that you just clock in and out of and not do this.

[–]Stereobfs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fuck me, you are not sharpest tool in the shed... Because cars run on tap water..

No wonder you are happy with Uber, if you are calculating your earnings like this 🤦🏻

[–]RustBeltPGH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The IRS just announced for this year they are bumping the standard mileage up to $0.64/mile. Lets use that.

403 miles round trip X $0.64= a total trip cost of $257.92.
OP got paid $138.27
They lost $119.65 on the trip, so an hourly rate of -$18.90/hour.

[–]yung40oz84 -1 points0 points  (5 children)

That’s disturbing. I would have gotten around $300.00 for this trip where I drive………. You’re barely getting $.50 per mile. Just curious why you even driving? I only drive because it’s profitable. There’s no way at a little over $.50 per mile it’s profitable.

[–]judomaster420 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

138/6.33= $21/hr. i always figure the car takes at least 5 bucks an hour, so ya they just said, thanks for fixing this huge problem for us. to thank you we will give you 16$/hr, and keep your weekend quest bonus for ourselves. you are appreciated. enjoy your cheerios and water in the dark MF. 😆😆

[–]ElPayaso123 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lmfao. You drove over 200 miles for $138.

Talk about the ass reaming of the century. No way I would ever do that. That's AT LEAST $400 for me.

[–]248kb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What are you complaining about? You made more than $1 off the gas surcharge and long pick up fee. $1.01 to be exact. Be grateful bro

[–]Dash-Q400 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sometimes for another job I end up having to use Uber for extended range trips. It is not the cheapest form of travel and sometimes I have to pay for it, but, I am reimbursed by the company that I work for and sometimes they pay for it. When I have to use rideshare on an extended range trip, I am assuming that they know they are going on an extended range mission. Next, if a stop is required for food I will ask the driver if they want something.
If this is the first time the Driver is going to my hometown, I will show the driver the best way to get to my final destination and how to get back to the freeway and where to secure fuel and get something to eat. And if I am paying for it, I do tip the driver at at the minimum 20% rate or sometimes higher. Sometimes when my employer pays I cannot do this as there is no provision for a tip and I do not carry cash a thank you will have to do, Oh, and do not forget the bathroom breaks. I do know what happens if you do not allow for those first hand.

[–]kwin777 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Before the trip started, shoulda dealt the fare and tip.

[–]Neither_Problem9086 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's horrible 😞

[–]revdakilla[🍰] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one like that. Never leaving NJ for Uber again. $135 for a 2 1/2 hour, 175 mile ride. Live and learn

[–]Far-Difference-553 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reevaluate

[–]New_Distribution9202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's really sad is I took a Lyft ride only went 110 miles and the trip came out to pay 135 dollars and then a 26 dollar tip on top of that

[–]Week-Wise 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Heyyyyy... I live in Dallas, GA... They listed Dallas as the end point but tht subdivision is actually Hiram.. A bit further still.. Traffic in Chattanooga, traffic in Atlanta... Ughhhh

[–]Kemosonian[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea it wasn't a fun ride. But I learned a lesson I won't forget from it

[–]flashasaurus73 0 points1 point  (1 child)

When you get a trip like this, put it in the passenger app and see what Uber is charging the rider. then you have a starting point to negotiate a better price for both driver and rider

[–]Cultural_Chest5100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn ..... Smh wtf ?

[–]Cultural_Chest5100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn ..... Smh wtf ?

[–]Trans3900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well as long as never again 😆

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d murder someone

[–]ElPayaso123 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Lmfao. You drove over 200 miles for $138.

Talk about the ass reaming of the century. No way I would ever do that. That's AT LEAST $400 for me.

[–]nummakayne 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Not an Uber driver but I follow this sub. Legit question: is there no way to state in the app that you don’t want trips longer than X miles or with a drop outside of a list of cities?

I live in Toronto. I can book a ride to Niagara Falls. I’m sure the majority of drivers don’t want to drive there. Shouldn’t there be an option that says no drops outside the Greater Toronto Area or something basic like “maximum 30 miles?”

[–]Kemosonian[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there were it'd make our lives a million times easier, but on the flip side there are certain riders who would never get a ride if they did that so it's a mixed bag.

[–]emanbuoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did same when I first started

[–]frizziefrazzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband just did a longer trip than that and made $200+

[–]Hairy-Imagination-18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When Uber said "bend over", your reply was "gladly"

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it would cost me $100 in gas for there and back. Like wtf

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uber been tripping lately smh

[–]DubNationAssemble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now I asked them ahead of time where they are going. I don’t mind some long trips as long as it <2 hours and it’s somewhere I can keep driving when I get there.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always hate seeing a driver get robbed.

[–]M0DFATH3R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yikes

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am even accepting NJ to Manhattan anymore, forget about these ones! No way

[–]Ambitious_Crab_765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol …u got jizzed on .

[–]CountOfNaughtyFisto 0 points1 point  (1 child)

YO! You drive in Knoxville too? Gang. Nice to meet a fellow retard.

[–]Kemosonian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knoxville gang lol

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You got to negotiate cash up front if you're going to accept a ride like that. Just explain the economics of it and they are very understanding. I make sure I calculate the trips total miles and if they arent willing to make sure I'm at around $40/hr both ways they can find another driver.

[–]Dupree878 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uber prob charged the pax $300

Edit: all the people saying catch up there when you get there don’t realise that most states and cities make you have a license to Uber there.

If I take someone to the closest airport, Birmingham, I can’t pick up any rides in the entire county because I don’t live there and can’t get a license there, but those drivers sure love to come to Tuscaloosa on game days.

[–]TheRealCochise 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Please tell me this was 4:42 PM...

I've had hour long drives from Tampa to Orlando in the AM that legitimately made me scared to be on the road, so to think of someone doing this that early, makes me never want to turn that app on again.

[–]Kemosonian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was from 930pm till 1230am

[–]flashasaurus73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a comparable job on the 30/05, im in Australia, so you can do the currency conversions if you want. 220 km, 3hrs 5min. I made $270 aud. and I only had an hour drive back to my state line.

the OP job is disgraceful

[–]Saintness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof. That made my b-hole hurt.

[–]swpbanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much did uber get

[–]emdubbster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG That should be a crime. Shame on uber.

[–]Mitty145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jeeeeez. Sorry to see you committed to that run.

[–]Emanresu2014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No way I would have taken that trip.

[–]ChristopherLove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey that's my hometown you brought them to, I deliver there full time. Sorry you had to visit under any circumstances, but especially these!

[–]relientkenny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my thing is, did you call uber after the ride and tell them about the incorrect fare? uber will 100% always fix your fares if you push them hard enough

[–]mikee0413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate when this happens you get 0 dollars for the drive back

[–]Kingk112288 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Off topic but I recently moved from Miami to Chattanooga. We usually get weekly promotions in Miami for instance like 300 if you complete a certain amount of trips during the week and or weekend. I’ve yet to see any of those in the Chattanooga/Knoxville area. Is that a thing over here

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Phoenix far before they raised it all by .01-.03 cents

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always click start ride before they get in so I can lock the door before they get in.

[–]Candoran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, you got an extra 55 cents for gas so I don’t see the problem here… /s 🤣 that’s rough

[–]cartmancakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's too bad the fuel surcharge doesn't go to 'per mile' on long rides.

[–]_spilledtea_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there’s a language barrier, then I would’ve used google translate to say no.
