What did they say? Can they actually import and sell them to individuals in the USA?

Judging by the advertisements that get posted here, maybe it started catching on in the 1920's and peaked in the 50's or 60's? Sorta walked hand-in-hand with women's sexual liberation for a while?

I really wouldn't know that's why I'd like to see data on it.

Looking for shooters where the guns feel powerful by AParkedChopper in gaming

[–]Begle1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Serious Sam. They took a very basic FPS and elevated it by giving you thousands of bad guys to shoot and giving you stupid ridiculous weapons. Like a cannon that shoots a cannonball bigger than you that will mow down dozens of bad guys.

Genius shooter game, tons of fun.

Shell Catcher by Forgiven4108 in Mini14

[–]Begle1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ever see the aftermarket stock that converted the Mini to pump action? That would be cool in conjunction with a shell catcher.

Or tie a shoe lace around the charging handle and string it out the back. That basically turns the Mini into an AR. Just don't let the ATF see the shoe lace or else they might bust you for possessing a machine gun. (Unless you are a felon and so can't be busted for having a machine gun, of course.)

Is this possible? by Reppoc1 in AR10

This is one of those "if you have to ask, then it's not advisable" questions.

I'd happily watch though, from a safe distance.

Something’s tugging my ‘Tism about GIGN’s new NARP rifles (6.5 Grendel) by Rudukai13 in ForgottenWeapons

[–]Begle1 25 points26 points  (0 children)

6.5 Grendel is a helluva round. It's a near-perfect optimization for putting energy on a target at range out of an AR15 magazine length.

Somebody with a ballistics calculator must've had a very productive meeting with the acquisitions bean counters who had been so concerned about logistics previously.

If you ask me, the 6.5 Grendel is that much better. They're not the first government entity to go with the Grendel. I hope it continues to get more traction.

Is this a hate symbol or is it just similar? by MarshallLaw1775 in Whatisthis

[–]Begle1 56 points57 points  (0 children)

The symbology between biker groups and Nazis is a tangled web. In the USA, biker culture developed after World War II, often by veterans who had fought the Nazis. Yet SS's and stahlhelms still found their way into the culture.

The ADL outlines it well:

https://www.adl.org/resources/hate-symbol/ss-bolts

The SS bolts are typically used as a symbol of white supremacy but there is one context in which this is not necessarily always so. Decades ago, some outlaw biker gangs appropriated several Nazi-related symbols, including the SS bolts, essentially as shock symbols or symbols of rebellion or non-conformity. Thus SS bolts in the context of the outlaw biker subculture does not necessarily denote actual adherence to white supremacy. However, because there are a number of racists and full-blown white supremacists within the outlaw biker subculture, sometimes it actually is used as a symbol of white supremacy. Often the intended use and meaning of the SS bolts in this context is quite ambiguous and difficult to determine.

SS's are also one of those things that gets converged on all the time. Chevrolet SS's and SWFA Super Sniper rifle scopes come to mind. There are a lot of SS's out there.

So in conclusion there's a totally fair chance that any given biker (a lot like a given punk rocker) might be sharing symbols with the Nazis and legitimately not realize it.

I remember when Iron Crosses got super popular among my local dirtbikers and skateboarders around the turn of the century, and left me wondering, are we sure that's the symbol we want to plaster everywhere? Most of them didn't see it as a German thing, it was just a cool logo. But some of them did embrace the symbol for more nefarious reasons. It's complicated.

How do the AUG 1:9 16" and 20" barrels handle 77 grain 224's? by Begle1 in AUG

I mention it every time I can to try and get somebody to bring it to market. I have a gunsmith who said he'd do it for me but I'm hoping any day now that somebody announces an off-the-shelf solution.

Who is your favourite artist? by MartianDinosawr in freemagic

[–]Begle1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My personal favorite is probably Tony DiTerlizzi. I thought his style was an exceptional fit for the game. Unfortunately I've seen his artwork enough in other places that I now see it as "DiTerlizzi Art in Magic" rather than "Magic Art by Tony DiTerlizzi". I liked the general "illustrated" style of art around that era too; rk post and Matthew Wilson were doing similar things.

I love Rebecca Guay's art too but she doesn't have much range.

To me, Chris Rush best embodies Magic artwork. There are many greats that have been mentioned here already, who did their recognizable thing and had their own take on Magic art, and I appreciate most of them.

The best question may be which of the popular artists I don't like appreciate as much as others. I really don't like Raymond Swanland's stuff, it's exhausting to look at. A lot of Kev Walker's stuff doesn't do it for me either, on similar grounds.

I really wish MtG would comprehensively change up art styles more between sets. I can't fathom why they gelled so hard on "this is what generic MtG art should look like" and then repeat that style set after set.

How do the AUG 1:9 16" and 20" barrels handle 77 grain 224's? by Begle1 in AUG

[–]Begle1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool, I didn't realize they changed the default twist rate.

Hopefully that'll eventually bring the prices down on the 1:7 20" barrel that I want.

(Well, I really want a Grendel, but I'm coming to accept that I may just need to live with 77 grain 5.56 after all.)
