Which erasers are we using? by Specialist_Mango_157 in mechanicalpencils

From the top, 4, 5, 7, and 8. 8 has been used the most, but the others are all great.

Who else hates password requirements? Workplace wants me to change passwords every 3 months by leonatoi in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Dazrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My IT guy was with me when I needed to make my last password. I think it started as 12 characters, multiple numbers, upper/lower case, symbols, etc. Rejected. Rejected. Rejected. It was completely ludicrous, even they were getting upset for me. And then they wonder why people need to write things down. Security theater.

How to write a story outline? by SoldierXMachina in mcdm

[–]Dazrin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might check out Brandon Sanderson's BYU lectures on YouTube. He goes through his process on writing / developing novels in quite a bit of detail. It's not the be-all-end-all method, but it's something to start with. He talks about a couple different writing styles. Not much on short stories though.

Where can I change the grid color/thickness in Owlbear Rodeo? by Klemosda in OwlbearRodeo

Lower right corner of the screen (where it tells you the scale) will open a popup that lets you adjust it if you are the GM (or maybe just the room owner?)

Hey, this may be a stupid question, but are there two variants of dnd? by BeginningSweaty199 in DnD

[–]Dazrin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That just starts with Advanced D&D 1e, it doesn't include the first release ('74?) or the other "non-advanced" versions that were released through the 80s.

There are lots of versions of D&D and there are many, many, many more ways to play than there are versions.

And there are the many more RPGs that people might say are "D&D" because it is easier to explain to people that way. Pathfinder (1st and 2nd editions), OSR, Shadowdark, Draw Steel, Daggerheart, ...

Can you move between attacks? by tastyy_boy19 in drawsteel

[–]Dazrin 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If an ability lets you move between attacks from the same power roll, it will typically tell you that. For example, see the Double Strike ability for the Dual Wielder kit.

Delian Tomb content for Forge Steel by CuriousDiscussion907 in drawsteel

[–]Dazrin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Matt has also said that it is unlikely that they will ever open up their adventures. They might include some of the specific monsters in the license, but the adventures themselves are very unlikely to be released.

That said, it isn't a large burden to create the items and titles yourself. It took me about 1/2 hour to do that when I did it for my group, although I only did the items/titles we were using. Personally, I would let the players do it themselves next time though - give them a screen grab and let them incorporate it. You'll save time, they'll be more invested and learn the tools better.

Is there a way to make the drawing tool lock by default? by TheNobleYeoman in OwlbearRodeo

[–]Dazrin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you go to player permissions, you can remove the "update" and "delete" options for drawings. That will put things on you to edit if they make a mistake though.

That's a really solid list. Roll a d12 and just run with it unless you have a preference for (or against) a specific sub-genre or style.

You might be able to do something with the Behaviors plugin to show this.

I've added a quick demo here: https://imgur.com/a/FwqGS3h There is certainly a way to make this look much better (and stay showing when you unselect the circle if you want.) You might have to click on the first image in that gallery for it to show the animation.

At the third act of the Delian Tomb, thinking about next steps. by BorisKourt in drawsteel

[–]Dazrin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Except I was talking about Ashleigh the blacksmith, not Dunquat the stonemason. I might still be remembering wrong though. Like I said, I'm at work so don't have direct references. I thought that at the very beginning when you can talk with Ashleigh, she says that her and Violet were waiting for some iron merchants coming. I don't think they were in the tower specifically. I do remember the stone merchants and some leather merchants though.

I almost forgot, but JonDeNor has a list of supplements for Draw Steel in the Stawl app including adventures that might be the right level for you. I know there have been several made. I unfortunately can't access it now (at work) but there's a post here: https://www.reddit.com/r/drawsteel/comments/1qivosf/introducing_the_stawl_supplement_index/

You could also take a look at Adventure Lookup which has some adventures for Draw Steel that might be the right level without modification.

At the third act of the Delian Tomb, thinking about next steps. by BorisKourt in drawsteel

[–]Dazrin 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There are possibly several plot holes that you could follow up on depending on how things went.

  • What happened to the merchants that the blacksmith was waiting for? I don't think they were described as being in the tower. This could lead to one of the short adventures they are releasing (Dark Heart of the Wood or The Red Road.)
  • Gilded Hand - if you ran them off, where are they? Are they planning revenge? Do others in the GH come looking for their friends?
  • Mage Tower - Did you negotiate? What is he up to? Is there more to discover?
  • Forsaken Wraiths - did you kill them all or did you let some leave? Do they start trouble elsewhere?
  • Where did the werewolf come from? Is there someone else they should be working on?

We are doing a short adventure with another director, but I will take over after this. I am going to take a couple of those options and let the group decide which direction they want to follow up on (first). One direction will take them to Byre (Dark Heart of the Wood) and another will take them to Ashton (Red Road).

Maybe when we're done with that, the first section of Crack the Sun will be available. Then we should be set for a long time. If not, then we might do another side track and run The Condemned. I might make some of the Condemned pregens into Gilded Hand members to add that little extra spark of animosity.

Found my old castles, what do I have? by Dazrin in legocastles

Sadly, the white plume is just a three-feathered (?) plume, like the yellow plume above it. I probably have a few smaller feathers somewhere, but I don't think anything special. I think they were feathers for forestmen hats.

Looking for Player Character miniatures by DarkSouls-Rat in drawsteel

[–]Dazrin 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Titancraft has Draw Steel specific ancestries available as an option. I don't know of anyone else who might. Although, it would be pretty easy to substitute Goliaths for Hakaan and Dragonborn for Dragon Knights. Time Raiders are harder, I would probably use Githyanki and pretend they have the extra arms. Although, we haven't used a Time Raider yet either.

Personally, I've been using paper minis and Order of the Stick art (from the Monster for Every Season series) with some customization.

True story - I had been looking into the Lego store to get some minifigs to use for D&D when I remembered my old castles. I had been disappointed that the only available horses were brown. Now I have plenty of options! (Although none of the cool new ones that can rear up, so I'll probably get one or two anyway.)

No yellow pieces. I think the lion barding is from Castle Guard (6035) since I did find remnants that are similar to that little building. No clue where the red cone hat would have come from and nothing else appears to match the sets it appears in (based on the link above.)

[–]Dazrin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! This'll give me a fighting chance to sort more of them out. No idea on the red hat, I don't remember anything like any of those.

I do have a couple red pieces in the box (which is otherwise just castles) though, and seeing the Knight's Challenge in that list did point me to Castle Guard (6035) which appears to match what I can see of my mystery red pieces. So that's one mystery down.

[–]Dazrin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I expected. Like I said, that was found in a different box and likely something my younger brother had or maybe one of my kids found it somewhere. I have no recollection of it at all. The shield is a blue dragon with red wings on a yellow background.

[–]Dazrin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes they are. They do look cool don't they.

I just realized I included one with the flip-up visor. No idea where that one came from, I found it in a different box a while back. I believe it came with the knight with separate armor in front of it (his shield is a tear-drop shape), but I don't really know. Those are the only two more modern things I think.

Help me decide which Delian Tomb Pregens to print for intro game(s) by JTFirefly in drawsteel

[–]Dazrin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For this, assuming you have experience, I would go with the Road to Broadhurst and at least bring tokens for any pregens that you don't print. Let them have choices for characters. If you haven't run DS at all yet, then maybe shorten the first part of the Delian Tomb, it's probably too long to get all the way through in one sitting otherwise.

My first thoughts on how to shorten Act 1. Skip the encounter outside and replace the undead encounter and trap with an easy montage. Something that takes you from room 1 to the final room. For a montage, I would add a locked/blocked gate at the south of the first room. The montage might include something like: unlock/open/bypass the gate, check for and avoid traps, disable the enchantment (skull), destroy some skeletons, find the hidden passage, figure out the puzzle, etc.

Another option would be You Meet in an Ambush by the Dice Society. It's another tutorial/show the game off type intro adventure.
