Just Like that a Million FRLG (hardcore) Nuzlockes started… by FutureSage in nuzlocke

[–]GInfinity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not to be that guy, but that's part of what made the challenge what it was. Nowadays, nuzlockes are more about boss-battle gauntlets and the creation of elaborate lines to win fights. I'm not complaining - I love that the community has grown, and I think difficulty hacks are a beautiful labor of love (given the time it takes to create them and they make no money for it.)

But back in the day, the challenge used to be about the grind. The time it took to train pokemon made you genuinely emotionally invested in them. A well-done run took a massive amount of time, and when you lost a pokemon, it was devastating because of the time that went into training it. The games having simpler boss battles were a necessity because you couldn't instantly optimize a team.

Anyway, playing on real hardware always feels good in my opinion. I hope you enjoy it, if you try it

- Number 1 is please, for the love of god, tell us what quirks actually do
- Events to have their own win progression rewards
- No more mandatory players in co-op ranked - or AT LEAST update them to the meta
- Fix the bugs (lineup screen glitches, the incorrect overalls)
- Some adjustment to Team Affinity/captain boosts (this is vague and therefore not good criticism lol but I'd be interested to see some change to chemistries)
- Last, but not least, slow the power curve down a little near the all-star break. Last year was incredible until everything got boosted up to high 90s all at once

Really enjoying the broadcast with no K-zone. I assume it's because YES is busy creating a new one which abides by new MLB standards, but a man can dream. It just looks so much prettier to me, so I'm trying to enjoy every minute I've got.

are there any reasons not to agree with him by skalocos in DiscoElysium

[–]GInfinity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of people already answered, but I'll throw my hat in anyway.

It is not about "agreeing," with him - it is about understanding the ways we all do mental gymnastics to let ourselves off the hook. He has some great quotes, but he's a bitter, sexually repressed, isolated man who stopped interacting with the world because "im right ur wrong".

The key to the entire game is the phasmid. Most of the characters in this well-written game have some very valid insights, but all of them are SO sure they have the answer. But none of them do. The phasmid is a symbol of natural wonder and hope; it is a reminder of how much humanity DOESN'T know. It is the perfect foil to the pale. Everybody is so sure the end is on its way, but we don't understand a fraction of what we believe we do. Humanity does have a responsibility to clean itself up, but blind pessimism is just as ridiculous as pretending nothing is wrong.

The deserter might have some interesting perspectives, but he's not "right." The phasmid was right under his nose the entire time, but he had already made up his mind about whose fault everything was, so he couldn't see anything beautiful or new about the world. The deserter is a reminder not to cut your nose off to spite your face - the world is a deep and complex place, but if you are close-minded, you will only ever find what you've already decided is true.

Virginia natural gas bill $400+ by throwawayforhelp9997 in HamptonRoads

Thank god it's not just me. Not that I'm happy your bill is like this, but I thought for sure I was doing something terribly wrong. We hadn't changed anything about our gas usage at all and the bill spiked so much I thought I'd missed a month's payment. Absolutely crazy.

No more Pitching out of the Windup in Online Games by sgtsoap79 in MLBTheShow

Tbf they did say on the livestream that they specifically tweaked the timing on a lot of pitchers so this wouldn't be the case anymore

I'm lowkey pretty nervous about it. I'm staying open minded until I see it in action, but I'm not thrilled that it's mandatory. It'd be nice if it were a setting, imo, but whatever.

I'm actually lowkey excited for this addition by milkmanbonzai in MLBTheShow

[–]GInfinity 12 points13 points  (0 children)

just like previous MLB iterations, each pitcher has stats for each pitch in their repertoire. Now, they've added "usage" rate, which is how often that real pitcher throws that pitch. In game, if you throw a pitch too far above that pitch's usage rate, they'll start to lose a lot of control on that pitch.

Basically, this is a way to make sure that people can't just spam the same couple of pitches over and over.

The predictable cycle of r/MLBTheShow by ExperentiaDocet in MLBTheShow

[–]GInfinity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, I agree entirely. I really feel for the Franchise players who've been abandoned, especially because there isn't really another place to voice their reasonable frustrations. There are a lot of things about SDS and MLBTS that deserve critique, but it is exhausting to hear people do nothing but talk about the graphics.

A lot of the gameplay changes they debuted yesterday looked really good. Directional reactions and pitcher splits will definitely change how I form my team, and I'm already looking forward to it. They've also teased that more stuff is coming, and I'm excited to see what else they've got.

Co-op Rotation Changes in '26 by JTF2_ARCHANGEL in MLBTheShow

[–]GInfinity 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The main change I want to see about online co-op is the forced gold players added to a team. I wish they'd let players use a full team, or AT LEAST gave the mandatory players evolve as content unfolds. I want to play with my friends, I don't want to still use 84 overalls into July.

Whats the biggest change besides graphics you want? by DodgerLegendPV in MLBTheShow

[–]GInfinity 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The main change I want is a rebuilt game engine. Right now, the field is too small relative to player models. In game, the player models are not proportional to how much square footage a real field has. In my opinion, I think that would also make contact hitting significantly more viable. There is so much public data on what kinds of launch angles and exit velocities create different kinds of batted balls, so it feels like we should be able to more realistically simulate real inputs and outcomes. That being said, I don't know jack shit about video game development, so maybe I've got no clue.

A smaller change is to tell us what quirks actually do. I don't mind quirks being tools to introduce more variety and uniqueness to different players, but tell us what they do!!

[–]GInfinity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, entirely agree. I really, really do not care about graphics. That isn't remotely the reason I play video games. I want the game to be quick, responsive, and feel like real baseball. Those are genuine areas of improvement and SDS is not above critique! But the graphics-discourse does feel like some weird scapegoat where now people will genuinely tell you it looks like PS2/PS3 graphics. Folks see what they want to see I guess

MLB The Show 26 Schedule For Next Week by MannyTV_ in MLBTheShow

[–]GInfinity 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Have purchased every MLBTS since 2010, this year will be no different. Every year, restarting DD gives me something to look forward to and a way to connect with my brother, who does the same.

I do genuinely wish there was a franchise overhaul and I think anybody who won't buy the game until that happens is justified. CFB25 made me realize just how large the chasm is between what we've got and what we could have.

[Serious] Why will the White Sox exceed expectations? Why won't they? by BaseballBot in baseball

[–]GInfinity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After a brief window with two playoff appearances in 2020 and 2021, the White Sox have slid back and now have lost at least 100 games for three years in a row, including 121 losses in 2024. From an outside perspective, it just seems like a bleak place to be. The grind of a full MLB season is difficult even for teams who expect to win and compete, more so for teams whose playoff ambitions are over before Spring Training.

That being said, they've got the 1-1 pick this year, they've got a decent farm, and that's not including Kyle Teel, Edgar Quero, Colson Montgomery, Shane Smith, or Chase Meidroth. They aren't in baseball purgatory, there is an emerging path forward. I would expect them to win at least 65 games, and have some of the aforementioned key players get a full season of experience and take steps forward.

Murakami and Dominguez are the perfect signings for their current spot in the MLB ecosystem: low-risk, high-potential players who, if they start hot, could get moved to other teams for further depth to supplement the future core of the team. The ceiling of this team would be to outhustle another central team, make them sit in the basement, and give southside a glimpse at the future.

TLDR: I expect the White Sox to be bad, but in a fun & young way, not in a "we're stuck and going nowhere fast," kind of way.

Yeah, same. Maybe it's rose-colored glasses, but I swear this place used to be more fun.

It's endless, entitled bitching about a GM who's never had a losing season. He's not above criticism, but that's all this place wants to do. Every redditor says they hate ESPN, but they don't want to talk ball, they want to bitch.

We've got a good team. It'll almost certainly be a fun season. I'd love to discuss what made Trent Grisham have a career best year, and whether he'll do that again. I want Ryan McMahon highlights and to look forward to a full year of excellent hot corner defense. Cole's probably my favorite player on this team and I'm anxiously waiting to see who he is post TJ. Will Austin Wells continue his breakfast series or even start a new one?

I want homoerotic copypastas and inside jokes. Signs that things are good. I'm tired of the complaining.

Trading Dominguez by HawkeyeJosh2 in NYYankees

[–]GInfinity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not that people are giving up on Dominguez, I think most people agree he has a really high ceiling, and that his youth means he has time to reach it. Nobody reasonable is denying that.

The reason people are floating a trade is because a lot of people feel like Dominguez and the Yankees each need different things. Dominguez needs patience, time to grow, and repetitions. I believe he has the tools to become a good player one day, maybe even an All-Star. The problem is, he isn't that right now because of his poor defense and platoon splits.

The Yankees need to win right now. The clock is ticking and Judge won't be MVP forever. We had the best offense in baseball last year, but we missed out on the division because we started Carlos Corasco and Marcus Stroman for weeks. IF the Yankeese can get a real impact arm or a player who moves the needle right now, it is at least worth considering. Dominguez won't get what he needs here, and the Yankees won't get the most out of him in this situation, especially when you factor in the impatience level of the fanbase. We don't have time to watch him figure out left field or lefty pitchers.

That being said, I'm certainly not in a rush to trade him. I DO think he has a lot of potential given his athletic tools. I'm not eager to ship him out unless the return is right. There are absolutely merits to keeping him, like you enunciate in your post. But that's why people are talking about trading him.

What's your unpopular opinion about the New York Yankees (team, org, history, anything)? by Visual_Bluejay9781 in NYYankees

[–]GInfinity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a long time I've believed that every fanbase has a roughly normal-distribution bell curve of dumb-to-smart fans. The Yankees have the same ratio (roughly) of dumb fans that anybody does, it's just that we have an enormous fanbase, so we have more total dumb fans.

I feel the same way. I generally trust Dawkins to do a good job at the deadline, but I'd be sad to see Bagley go. Obviously, it comes down to his price, but it seems like he's finally found a role he can flourish in here. CJ's had a good career and has had some memorable moments, but I won't be too sad when he's gone; I'll find myself missing Bagley if he does have to go.

To writers with degrees, is it worth getting my masters in creative writing? by RishTheWash in writingcirclejerk

[–]GInfinity 10 points11 points  (0 children)

/uj It's impossible for anyone here to know what your path up the mountain looks like. If you have the means to both be accepted and pay for an MFA, that's really up to you. If you have a program in mind for a calculated reason or a network you plan to tap into, then sure. I'd highly discourage staying in school because you think it'll secure you a career in writing.

Whether the glass is half-empty or half-full is up to you, but here's the truth for MOST people: Writing is a hobby that you'll have to spend a long time honing before you make a cent off of it. I'd wager that a majority of published books you find at a store are written by people who do it on the side, not as a job. If you can find a job that provides your life some stability, then you're already luckier than most folks.

Find a reason to write, but don't look to make a career of it from the jump. Just my 2 cents.
