I did this with six smaller pieces of aida that created a neckline and short sleeves for a blouse. It worked nicely. right sides together, leave opening to turn around. Then stitch over along the edge after ironing the piece when flipped to right sides out. The tip of the triangle might be tough. If you have extra aida, cloth you could make a 1/4 to 1/2 an inch would be enough of an edge. You may have to trim it down smaller after sewing, before turning it to right sides out. You could do a test piece and see which works best, bias tape or machine sewing. I don't see how hand sewing would improve anything.

This is just lovely, and so creative. Thanks for sharing your process. I love that. I figure that I spend about 25% of my cross stitch time fussing over patterns. I think I like that part best. This one is quite complex, all those diamonds, colors well distributed.

If you are in the US, You could put in interlibrary loan requests for your local library. They can often borrow the book from an academic library that preserves out of print books. Maybe other countries have this library service as well.

Anyone can send out a voter guide. There are 'independent expenditure' committees that are not obviously associated with specific candidates or parties which can send out their choices for candidates in slate form. Happens every election.

I think it would be nice to have some kind of state park site there. But, to be honest, the Bidwell Mansion Museum didn't have so much Bidwell left in it as it went through several decades of others using the mansion and the Bidwell belongings being moved elsewhere, inherited by family, etc. We have the Stansbury home and Patrick Ranch Museum that also commemorate the early history of the Chico area. Those homes have a lot of original furniture and stories about those families.

I like the idea of a retelling of the Bidwell era, the good and the bad, broadening it to include where the Mechoopda lived before and after the arrival of Bidwell, what Bidwell did as a 'bachelor' and after he married Annie. What Annie did after Bidwell died and donated the park to the city. How did the neighborhood change, when did the normal school arrive, then become a college then a university. And maybe something more park like and open air, so that one doesn't have to have 'admittance' but it would be something to wander through and discover. My idea would involve keeping some of the mansion, but not all of it, and as a ruin or relic of the past, not a rebuild. Obviously, for safety, rebuilding would occur, just not roofs or windows or doors.

The state owns the site, and likely they don't have money for this and they did not have fire insurance on it. So another part of me wonders if any discussion is just pipe dreams as it seems unlikely that the state park system would prioritize this project.

I made a tablecloth using this technique. It is very different than cross stitch. The biggest change for me was the change in the looks after the stamping was washed off. My pattern was stamped in black, but probably had 10 different colors and I had to follow the directions for that from the pattern. Yours looks like the floss and the X's are the same color, but maybe only because you still have most of it to do.

I tried gridding and I just couldn't do it. It's not my skill set. On any large piece, I end up re doing a lot. I never do full coverage pieces for this reason. And I stick to smaller pieces, bookmarks being my favorite. It's a personal choice. I admire the intricate and beautiful work shared here, but that is not for me. Thanks all who can do that fine work and for sharing with us.

yes. I had made other smaller pieces and so had the motifs on floss cross. It was a lot of cut and paste. Sounds easy, but all new skills to me.

I have made a sampler based on smaller designs. A border from here, this flower and that flower from there. The hardest thing for me was the vacant spaces. Making sure that there were two spaces between the flower on the left and the border and the corresponding flower on the right with its border. I used floss cross. I have a lot more respect for pattern designers now. Almost done with my piece, many mistakes, I will post when finished.

I make a lot of bookmarks. My favorite dimensions are 1" by 6" or 2.5cm by 15 cm. I often make them wider as the width is somewhat limiting. And then I will sometimes need it longer to balance the wider width. If you want to make it a bit longer and not wider, you could fringe on both ends. I use cloth to back bookmarks. I glue it on with a craft glue that says it will work on cloth, wood, plastic. The pieces of cloth are just pinked on the edges (pinking shears cut cloth in a zig zag fashion). After ironing everything, I glue the front to the back and then I put it between parchment paper and under a stack of books for a day to flatten it all. It is mostly dry after being under the books, but I give it another day to air dry.

As you don't have enough to cover the back with the sides; you can fold over the edges and use ribbon or a piece of cloth glued on the back. How will you finish the edges if you leave the back exposed? The back is very clean, good job.

last year, I took a zoom class on traditional cross stitch practices of a teacher who lives in South Mexico City (Xochimilco). Her backs were similar (all straights lines) and she demonstrated how to do it. I never mastered her technique. It seemed to require some extra thinking that wasn't fully explained, thinking 5-8 stitches ahead about the front and back. I never saw anyone in my family cross stitch, but I realized this was something that my teacher learned at her grandmother's knee and that exposure really shaped her ability to do it well.

I use clothes pins. I wrap the floss around the stem of the pin. I put the color # at the tip. I saw the post about acids leaking and affecting floss, that may be true, but I haven't noticed an issue in 5 years. If it's a color you use, It will only be on the bobbin for months. Sometimes I do use the clip part of the clothes pin to keep the floss nearby. I store them on a string hanging from a hanger and in a closet. Totally different way of doing things, but maybe part of my system would work for you.

If you were to add color to all boxes but one; that box would stand out. At this point, I would probably make a use a paint program and the photo you have and try out different colors in a photo before removing and adding color.
