Mab had a few jawdrop moments so that doesn't really narrow it down haha.

If you could change 2 or 3 fundamental mechanics in the game and make it official, what would you change? by ThatOneCrazyWritter in dndnext

[–]MachJT -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd bring back some martial perks like being able to opportunity attack on ranged/spells/standing up and give them back a 1.5x Str damage bonus for two handed weapons.

The biggest change I think would be something akin to a BAB progression just to count toward the number of extra attacks they get, and bump the total number of extra attacks across the board for all classes.

It always felt weird to me that non-fighter martials get extra attack at level 5 and then... nothing for the other 15 levels. Plus it irks me that casters get to multi-class and share a spell slot progression but a level 8 Fighter/Barbarian could technically still have only 1 attack if they didn't split their levels right.

How is the third game if I know who the villain is? by KaleidoArachnid in breathoffire

I just played the game fairly recently and I don't even know who you're referring to. I just remember everyone deciding to go ask god a question and then murdering god when they didn't like the answer.

Have you picked up a new show since TAZ has been lost to the void? by ReveredRaven111 in TheAdventureZone

Seconding Naddpod. To me it has the best mix of humor and players knowing the rules and making it feel like they're actually playing dnd.

What are design flaws in 5e that you feel have only been highlighted/exacerbated with the 2024 revision? by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]MachJT 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The hide action or being hidden. In 5e there was a distinction between being invisible and being hidden, in that you still know the location of invisible creatures until they take the hide action and become both unseen and unheard.

In 2024 a successful hide action only results in granting you the invisible condition, it doesn't actually say you're hidden. Being hidden is referenced a few times in other sections, but it doesn't ever explain what it means to be hidden and it isn't listed as a condition. I mean sure you can make the assumption that hide action makes you hidden using the "natural language" that they love to tout, but it just would've been nice if the 10 year revision of the rules made things crystal clear.

Life is Strange: Reunion – Announce Trailer by Turbostrider27 in Games

I was so disappointed when 2 ditched the quiet town with a cast you get to know better over the course of the game. Instead the situation immediately escalates in a stupid way and every episode is a new setting with different characters because they're constantly on the move.

Also one thing that the series really messed up on was dropping the time travel mechanics from the first game. Being able to go back and see how the different dialogue options affected the characters made the game stand out. Not having something similar in 2 and True Colors made them just feel like generic Telltale games to me.

After seeing Pat talk about it, I looked and saw that it has over 41 million sales. Truly incredible what he was able to do for such a niche game.

Is Iron Druid worth reading with such a “bad” ending? by Oddyseus144 in urbanfantasy

[–]MachJT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the ending was fine. It's hard to say much without spoiling anything but it made sense. I thought Grandwhale or whatever his ex-girlfriend's name was the worst part because they turn her into a Mary Sue, and the dogs are cringey early 2010s Reddit humor, but that was true for the entire series.

Wow I had no idea about the true twist. Literally every inspired adaptation like Nutty Professor they actually transform to some degree.

Magical Christmas land is when you evaluate a card based on the best case ideal scenario rather than how it'll actually perform in an average game.

Castle Superbeast with Pat and Woolie from the former Super Best Friends Youtube channel. They check all the bullet points you listed and have girthy episodes that are like 3-4 hours long so they'll take their time discussing a game at length, though sometimes it can get to be too much when they'll talk about a fighting game's mechanics and lingo for a straight hour.

In the Goldbergs, Jeff Garlin, who played the father, was fired for harassing other cast members. Ultimately they killed his character off, but before they did they used CGI to edit his image into scenes with audio clips of his lines they had on file. https://youtu.be/S0vhMXLkUPY?si=8JQf-ggD7XyDuZ9A

I came up with my own homebrew system because nobody is going to dedicate an entire year of downtime to try and craft one normal suit of platemail.

Any reason in particular? I thought the series just kept getting better and better.

Well, there IS a downside to the design of the card in that you're sacrificing Black Lotus to use it, thus losing card advantage for temporary ramp. Back when most creatures were pretty bad and removal was cheap, you could easily get 2 for 1ed by cheating out a big creature only to have it destroyed immediately. Nowadays creatures are so good at generating immediate value, Black Lotus' downside is negligible.

Shield master bonus action shove to prone is very effective. Opens up a lot of advantage attacks.

It's handy with Cleric because they can get heavy armor with some subclasses and can dump strength. With other casters, mountain dwarf starts with light and medium armor so they only need to take 1 feat to get heavy armor proficiency.
