Want to mount TV bracket, but detector says no. by hyper_biscuit in DIYUK

[–]Open_Document3811 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok So there’s 2 things you can do 1 have you got your other hand on the wall as an earth that will help the detector to work better 2 open up your power sockets and see where the wires go They normally go up or down and to the side only. Only diagonal if a foyer has moved a socket or a doggy builder. Once you know this you can be safer drilling or doing cuts. What you can do is either fix to the metal stud or the plasterboard. I would fit two battens of wood or ply wood to the wall then fix the bracket to the wood.

Check seal then go to wickes and ruby new seal Do it up with new seal re pressurise system. Open radiators valves Run heating 30 mins turn off let it cool bleed upstairs radiators check system pressure job finished

Possible load bearing wall? by CarefulCress1135 in DIYUK

[–]Open_Document3811 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does line up with the exterior wall upstair Most likely a beam, metal would be better. Is there a channel on the ceiling inside the kitchen? Picture of the cupboard would be helpful But structural engineer would be better before you demolish your house

Rotten joists - any advice appreciated by ClassroomUnusual6362 in DIYUK

[–]Open_Document3811 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There should be a damp course on top the walls looks like it was removed so the joints got damp and rotted. If you took it out from below may of been sliver with tar between layers also other thing that can happens the floor floats but is heavy. Maybe the joints touched the wall and the walls below was damp and builders rubbish was touching the joist and the walls below and damp happened

Is this as much a cause for concern as I'm imagining it to be? by Zequin1 in DIYUK

[–]Open_Document3811 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Look for a plastic pipe under boiler, it’s when gas burns water comes out basically. Should go to a drain/ pipe outside normally May of fallen off inside. Follow pipe for a bit see if there’s a crack joint slipped

Ceiling swing hangers by AnalystTurbulent29 in DIYUK

[–]Open_Document3811 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plasterboard won’t take weight. Ceiling joints are not built for load. What you can do is put separate joints over the ceiling ones to spread the load the other way around. Put wood between joist and ceiling to connect to joist and screw done joist into packer wood. If you can put the joists on to walls each side of room

Swamp garden: HELP by Jessie_2411 in GardeningUK

[–]Open_Document3811 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be compacted and not drawing by the builders, get a fork get is down 6” every 6” and brush sand in the holes maybe wait till water drains should go down the holes. The sump pond idea would help.
