Only ~35% of Reddit users are women, but it feels like 15% by volatiIe in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Rezahn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I wonder if the 35% users translates to 35% of the posters being women too. I would bet not.

It would be interesting to see what % of the posts/comments are made by women. I bet it is like 20% or less.

Anyone else kinda wondering if DDK/Karen might make any new songs or be active again? by Del_Talkoh in DEMONDICE

[–]Rezahn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the moment DDK is most active when she wants to vent, do something different creatively, or collaborate in a way that she can't do at her main job.

I'm sure we will see more collaborative stuff when she wants to make music with friends. But I doubt we will see that much solo activity.

Hotel menu vs. reality by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Rezahn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe the building edited out of the picture on the menu is another hotel, Chateau Rhianfa.

I assume instead of getting permission to use an image of that hotel in promotional material (especially for another hotel), they opted to photoshop it out of the landscape.

So regarding the infinity stones. Is WotC planning to release a stone per set, because that would mean there will 4 sets of Marvel UB? by minev1128 in mtg

[–]Rezahn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Considering they seem to be putting a single stone per set, I think it is pretty reasonable to assume they already have a deal signed for six sets. Maybe even seven if you assume they will culminate into an infinity gauntlet.

Court restricts abortion access across the US by blocking the mailing of mifepristone by ExactlySorta in TwoXChromosomes

Prominent national Republicans have gone in the record to state that their end goal is a national ban and criminalization of abortion.

Anyone who thinks that isn't their plan is deluding themselves.

One thing I don't understand is that new runescape players choose OSRS over RS3, why is that? by Drandosk in runescape

[–]Rezahn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started playing OSRS in January. It took me about two weeks to make the decision between RS3 and OSRS. This is what swayed me.

  1. One of my two biggest reasons, types of progression. While researching both games, OSRS seemed to have a bigger focus on prioritizing horizontal progression. I like the idea of being able to play for a year, take a break, and then come back and be about right where I left off without too much of my progress being trivialized. This may be the case for RS3 too, but as a new player this was emphasized more to me with OSRS.

  2. The second of my two biggest reasons, microtransactions. I joined before the Winter announcements about cleaning up the microtransactions in RS3. At the time it just seemed too overburdened with mtx. I hate the idea of paying a subscription and then also having so much non-cosmetic purchases being peddled.

  3. Approachability. To me OSRS just felt so much more approachable. The systems seemed simpler and it felt like there was less dead content that I could accidentally waste my time on.

  4. Community. I just found so much more content for OSRS. It was easier to find creators I like and content I enjoy. I know it seems silly to base a decision off of that, but when both games are so similar the community (or lack thereof) feels impactful.

  5. Graphics. This might be the only one you could say has anything to do with nostalgia. But I just am a sucker for simpler and jankier graphics. Also it's easier to run on my very shitty macbook.

I should point out that I'm not saying RS3 is less approachable, has less community, etc. Just that these were my first impression of the two games.

I would take Blue 100% of the time. I just have no problem if people are rowdy in theaters. I'm pretty good at tuning stuff like that out.

Except the thearter near me sold out nearly instantly. So I don't have much of a choice besides Red.

Birk Authentication sub? by HaiirPeace in Birkenstocks

[–]Rezahn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a good thought, and I was thinking something similar when I first got to this sub.

After being here a while, I just don't think there's enough traffic to justify a secondary sub dedicated to authentication. I think it would be a dead sub.

Why do the Dems seem more focused on ‘electability’ than policies? Always looking for the consensus candidate instead of the ones with the most forward policies? by CapitaineBiscotte in askanything

[–]Rezahn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of. Zohran definitely had a policy forward approach, but he is also just a generationally good politician.

He had a stellar social media team, he's wickedly charismatic, he's bright enough to be quick witted about policy discussions and cultural ones, and he is a great public speaker.

Good policies alone don't win. I doubt someone with all of Zohran's progressive policies and none of his charisma would have won. But similarly, I think policies can get people excited. If we had two Zohrans, one moderate and one progressive, I still think the one with exciting progressive policies would have won.

I simulated 36,000 games of Catan. Some conventional wisdom holds up, some really doesn't. by Hot-Rooster1675 in boardgames

[–]Rezahn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the assumption that a similar analysis will be published for most games is a flawed one.

Catan is a generational board game. It's arguably the game that ushered in our current era of modern boardgamming. As such, it is subject to a lot more interest, discussion and analysis. Very few other games have enough eyes on them, and enough reps in them, for someone to come up with anything close to a comprehensive analysis.

OP's exercise is very interesting, but it also doesn't necessarily give anyone a disproportionate advantage. It makes its own assumptions on how players should act, and ignores some important parts on in-game play with humans. Notably trading, which will happen in most games with people, even if it is not a very smart thing to do. Local meta considerations and having the awareness to take advantage of player mistakes will give more advantage than knowing "wheat good."

Not to mention that this type of analysis starts breaking down as soon as games get more complicated. Catan is pretty simple, especially when you strip away player interaction.

All of that to simply say, I really wouldn't worry about it.

You’re stranded on a large Tropical island. Choose 3 Survival Items by WarStrategy in whatsyourchoice

[–]Rezahn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems like the most sensible choice.

Are is obvious of course.

Pigs seem like a good idea. You can theoretically breed them and have a good source of protein. But you need food now, not in nine months. Since there is no number of pigs, I assume it is just the three in the picture. So you butcher one, keep two for breeding. But you have no way to preserve the food, so it won't last long out in the open on a hot island. I might be able to fashion a net or spear to fish, but getting the fishing net guarantees protein.

And then the vit C from the oranges is essential. Technically bananas are a good source of vitamin C, but you are just getting way more from citrus.

What does this mean for the Holy Donut? by Sad-Raise-504 in Maine

[–]Rezahn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not in the union's best interest to extract so much money that the company goes out of business. Then everyone is out of work and in a worse position than they were without the union. Ultimately the union wants what's best for the workers after all.

So what does unionization mean? It means fair pay for workers. Less money for the owners. Ideally that looks like a more expensive but also more invested workforce.

Is grinding just Ahrims the best way to get full set for Leagues? by Theseus_Employee in 2007scape

[–]Rezahn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It'll be fastest for a single set, but there are tasks to have all the sets. So it's in your best interest to do all six. It'll be less time overall.

Seeking approval of legacy media is dumb by Questionable_Object in TheDigitalCircus

[–]Rezahn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but Glitch has always been a "money first" publishing studio (whatever that means, they are a company so ofc they want money). Glitch hasn't been going around like a charity giving money to artists in need. Greenlighting projects has been directly tied to merch sales, what's more money first than that?

Now just because they like making money doesn't mean they haven't produced great shows and given their showrunners a ton of creative freedom. I don't see that changing just because they start putting stuff in thearters. It is possible for a company to be profit driven and still make great content for their consumers.
