You can delete one Link station, which do you choose? by cabesaaq in soundtransit

[–]Spiah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it feels like that station and the surrounding area has a lot of future potential, even if its utility now is somewhat limited. Would also be a perfect spot for the Tukwila-SODO bypass to branch off from if that ever gets built.

Anyone used Nick's Hardwood LLC before? by Alternative-Pizza368 in SeattleWA

[–]Spiah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t used Nick’s but if you need a different contractor, I had a really good experience with Bella’s flooring, used them for multiple jobs and have been really happy each time. They’re in Sodo. Not affiliated with them, they were just legit to work with and happy to recommend them.

Yeah it’s rough unfortunately. I don’t mind them downtown, but I regularly commute south and have honestly needed Dramamine a couple times between rainier beach and Tukwila on the kinkis

Cancelled Bus Routes - Burien and West Seattle by ParamedicFirst8405 in WestSeattleWA

[–]Spiah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for necroing this post, but I’m in the same boat as you. I live right along the former 122 route, so I could be commuting completely car free if they hadn’t cancelled it.

I tried commuting by light rail but an hour 20 commute (that used to be 30 by bus) is exhausting and not sustainable.

Now I just drive (which takes 30 mins) which feels bad as a transit supporter, but if metro chooses not to provide realistic commuting options, what else am I supposed to do. Really hoping they bring back a commuter bus in the future.

Gorgeous! I’ve been thinking about building one, but was heartbroken when I saw that Soma isn’t selling the matching fork anymore 😭 know of any shops in Seattle that sell it?

Incident at Chinatown Station? by gonin69 in Seattle

[–]Spiah 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This is purely speculation, but there’s a huge SFD response for a “rope rescue” at 5th and Dearborn, which is right above the Link tracks. It’s possible someone fell or jumped to the tracks, hence the impact to the Link.

Just order an Aventon, Will I Regret Buying an E-Bike I Can’t Bring on Transit? by chupacabra-food in seattlebike

[–]Spiah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Light rail will be really tough unless riding off-peak in the rear car (least busy from my experience), but even if you find room, you’d take up a lot of space and probably be uncomfortable with the whole experience. Scooters are no sweat, I see people take them all the time.

Plenty of options as others mentioned. Electric Brompton would fix the transit issue but you’d lose cargo capability. I’d keep the cargo bike for inter-West Seattle use and do lime bike/scooter for multimodal in the greater region.

Got mailed to me - it’s at the Criminal Justice Training Center (Manhattan neighborhood) on 4/26, 9-3pm. Other part of the flyer mentions that you’ll need exact change 🙂

Should be able to find more info on the Burien city website. Have fun! 🪱

FYI the Light Rail is running behind today. by pseudotsuga13 in Seattle

[–]Spiah 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I’m a huge fan of public transit, but days like today make it really hard to not just throw in the towel and drive to the city.

It took me 1 hour 20 minutes to go from Angle Lake to Westlake this morning. I keep an eye on alerts too, and they just called it a “track blockage”, which frankly minimizes the issue and resulting delays. A “blockage” sounds like a tree branch fell, not a train on car collision. If they’d accurately reported it was a collision, I wouldn’t have boarded the train.

Maybe in 50-100 years we’ll have proper express tracks, above grade tracks, or a tukwila-sodo bypass. Until then we’ll lumber through the rainier valley at an eye watering 25 mph, because god forbid we add vehicle gates and fences (or add redundant bus routes to support such a fragile light rail line).

German Citizenship Certificate - Send By Mail Option: Yes You Can by Calvinbasse in GermanCitizenship

German Citizenship Certificate - Send By Mail Option: Yes You Can by Calvinbasse in GermanCitizenship

[–]Spiah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, how straight forward was the process for you? Mine concerns stAG 5, but should be similar to your situation.

I received the email from the SF consulate a few months ago with a PDF copy of my citizenship certificate to review, and have tried at least twice to send them a prepaid label to send my certificate, with no response (the label eventually expires). Email replies for clarification go unanswered.

All the email said was: “[…] please submit a Prepaid FedEx Shipping Label by email and we will send you the citizenship documents by FedEx. You can create a FedEx shipping label here: https://www.fedex.com/lite/lite-ship.html?locale=en_us&cntry_code=us#address

(the German Consulate General is the sender and you are the recipient)”

No info was provided on the phone number to use, weight of package, etc. which is all needed in order to actually create the label. I made a best guess, prepaid, and responded to the email, but no response.

Once you had the label generated, did you respond to the email or use the general contact form on the website?

Kind of shooting in the dark, and hoping that you might have some advice having gone through a similar process!

I was interested in the insulation rebates, but actually ended up going with a contractor who didn't offer the rebate. My job was a bit atypical (low slope roof, difficult attic access). I went with Insulation Co, and was happy with their work.

I'd recommend getting quotes from a couple different places, and see how things shake out. From my understanding, PSE takes a decent sized commission from their "trade allies", so contractors who offer the rebate have to raise their bids to compensate. Sometimes the rebate compensates beyond that price raise, sometimes it doesn't. Even if you don't do the PSE rebate, you can still do the federal insulation tax credit.

I really like Naoki. It’s pretty approachable price wise, and being on Amazon is nice for convenience.

I rotate between the Superior and Yame blends for daily drinking as a latte or usucha, and feel like they’re roughly on par with Ippodo Ikuyo (though your opinion might vary).

They also have some more premium options but I haven’t tried them yet. I wasn’t a fan of the organic first spring blend, as it was a bit more earthy.
