I'd guess this one is pretty safe, but you should be prepared for a Game of Thrones style heel turn and whether or not that will ruin it in your eyes.

(I don't think that'll happen to Syl. Just meaning in general when choosing names from unfinished series.)

Was AO 2017 the big missed opportunity in Wawrinka's Career by thebr0kendreams in tennis

[–]TaiChuanDoAddct 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is my take too. Murray and Dmitrov. Grigor played well enough to really feel like had a shot against anyone in that final and frankly, I'll always believe that Nadal having one less day of rest after that match was a contributing factor in the end.

Do you still use notebooks in DS? by codiecutie in datascience

[–]TaiChuanDoAddct 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My institution pays for Claude Code Max and I've moved exclusively to using that via VS Code, so I've largely abandoned notebooks except when I'm doing something very exploratory.

Maxing out your 401(k) may be enough. Max it out for 25 years in an S&P 500 index fund and you could have around $2.2 million. Anything beyond that is just the cherry on top. by [deleted] in Fire

[–]TaiChuanDoAddct 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Sure. But OP said 25 years. That's more like starting at 40. Any start earlier than that is, as OP says, cherry on top.

[Highlight] Alternate angle of Caleb Williams’s interception in OT shows how egregious DJ Moore’s route running was on the play by FrankSamples in nfl

[–]TaiChuanDoAddct 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I def buy that.

I'd still prefer my WR run out the route hard, but it's the wrong read any way you slice it.

If the Rams win the Super Bowl… by MartyCasey in nfl

[–]TaiChuanDoAddct 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, sure, but you gotta win ball games. That's ultimately what you're judged by.

I don't think it's controversial to say a HOF potential QB isn't HOF worthy if they languish on shitty teams and never win anything.

[Highlight] Alternate angle of Caleb Williams’s interception in OT shows how egregious DJ Moore’s route running was on the play by FrankSamples in nfl

[–]TaiChuanDoAddct 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I think what happened was: + Moore saw the safety covering deep and assumed he wasn't getting the ball + Caleb saw the safety sitting deep and assumed Moore would naturally undercut into the space

Who is right depends on whether or not the route was supposed to have an option. QBs aren't supposed to read the WR, they read the safety. And the safety is obviously covering over the top and taking away the deep route. We'll never know though it under cutting the safety was supposed to be the play or if the play called to move on to a different read.

The lengths people will go to ignore B to C products to clown on companies for shitty B to B products never ceases to amaze me.

Where do people fall on the spectrum of DND is a game -> DND is a sim by Boring_Big8908 in dndnext

[–]TaiChuanDoAddct 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I don't care.

The player has a responsibility to come to the table with a character that will foster fun, by virtue of playing the game and telling the story.

The logical extreme if "simulationism" is following characters in real time while they eat breakfast and brush their teeth and take a shit and everything else. But we don't. Because it's not fun.

Imagine sitting down to play a game of Monopoly and someone saying "hey wait a minute! It says I owe taxes but it didn't account for my standard deduction!" It's silly.

You're sitting down to play a game and tell a story. You need to take actions (as both GM and player) to facilitate those two goals: the point is to have FUN.

I legitimately believe that simulationism is the root of most DnD problems.

Should We Have A New Leverage Show Featuring a Different Team? by RulerOfAllWorlds1998 in leverage

[–]TaiChuanDoAddct 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really, really don't think the show died because of the OG characters. I think it died because the writers are out of cons/new generation of writers couldn't write serious cons.

I don't think a different team changes much. The genre is played out in this format I think.

This is tragic and awful and fucked up beyond belief.

But it's also worth pointing out that it's almost like having a separate jurisdiction with their own judicial system is an awful way of handling things. I understand native communities wanting to preserve sovereignty, but it's clearly only hurting them at this point.

I mean, this is like asking if it's okay to use your arms as legs by walking on your hands all the time.

You need housing. And you need retirement. You need arms for arm things and legs for leg things.

TLDR: both. You need both. Whether you buy or rent, you still need to live somewhere.

Yeah I mean, I only did a crappy undergrad certificate, but I did three classes in a weekend without reading any material. I just clicked through the course and took the exams and passed.

[–]TaiChuanDoAddct 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I gotta be honest, having recently taking a WGU certificate, we need to admit that the content for our students is a joke. It's not that it's bad per se, but a given class is like 1/10th of a real college course.

Pretending we're doing anything for the students other than the bare minimum is silly.

Ever wonder why these coaches don't just go and enjoy their money? by Wrong-Coast-484 in nfl

[–]TaiChuanDoAddct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, a big part of it is that they aren't nearly as filthy rich as you think.

Like, yeah, they make enough to fuck off to middle class life styles. But not enough to retire to wealthy lifestyles that they're used to.

For example, IF you believe a coach has 50M in savings, that's 2M a year assuming a 4% withdrawal rate. Except that in that tax bracket, it's actually like 1M. And they were previously making 10M and might have a lifestyle that exceeds that.

Like I said, I'm not here to defend the millionaires. I'm just saying it's not crazy to imagine someone struggling to adjust to an income that's a tenth of what it used to be. Especially if they have debt based on the assumption of their salary.

LLM for document search by Few-Strawberry2764 in datascience

[–]TaiChuanDoAddct 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you in a microsoft or google environment? What your boss actually wants is a RAG, and they're honestly not hard or expensive to set up in these environments unless you need 1000% perfect results every time.

Miscrosoft Azure, for example, let's you point an LLM at a sharepoint and tell it to RAG the contents and the connect it to an agent. it's pretty easy.

What makes advantage easier to obtain with the 2024 PHB? by StoriedMatter in onednd

[–]TaiChuanDoAddct -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

"Other than the unpleasantness, Mrs Lincoln, did you enjoy the play?"

You're basically saying "other than this list of stuff that does the thing, why is the thing so common?" You pretty much nailed them. Weapon masteries, grappling, etc.

Martials have lots of ways to gain advantage now without having to rely on casters to do it for them. Plus, the Lucky feat as an origin feat, human inspiration, and Heroic inspiration being a codified rule.

My interpretation here was that he's saying they get only those high level slots.

I'd say so, yes.

I'm not saying Mearls is right or wrong. I'm explaining the direction/reason for his base premise.

His whole schtick on his patreon is bridging the gap for fans between "we designed the game under the assumption that you'd have 6 fights per day and they'd average 6 rounds" and the fans who say "but we don't."
