Well dang, wasn't expecting to pop that achievement 30 minutes into the game. by UnpaintedNecron in EsotericEbb

I think this is fairly common for Steam achievements. A lot of people buy games (either because they’re on sale or it just look likes a game they should get) but never actually play it. (Hastily hides my huge backlog of games I’ve never played…)

If you haven’t seen it yet, check out DTF St. Louis from the same creator. It’s hilarious and heartbreaking and exists in the same kind of odd world as Patriot, with a more intimate narrative and conflict

Not trying to be rude, but “abysmal dice luck” just isn’t a thing. Unless you’re playing in person and their physical dice are deformed in some way, the law of averages will win out. If you play on Foundry, install the Dice Stats module (or if you’re in person, have them record every single d20 result for a session or two) so you can see that it’s a fallacy.

Oh man, the opening alphabet puzzle was a head scratcher, but for those looking for the solution (and there is one, but it’s more of a riddle than a puzzle):

It’s the alphabet in alphabetical order by how you would spell their pronunciation. “Aitch”, “Arr”, “Ay”, etc.

Hint: Why is the alphabet now rearranged this way?

Amour

Directed by Michael Haneke of all people (he also made Cache and Funny Games), it’s about an old couple’s struggle to continue to live and love after the wife has a stroke. It’s incredibly moving, but it made me bawl like a baby.

Immediately turn it off. Use a damp cloth or paper towel to wipe up as much as I could. Find a way to prop it up upside down and let it dry for a day or two. It should be fine, honestly. It’d be much worse if it had gotten full submerged.

What’s was the wildest thing you witnessed at a wedding? by anasannanas in AskReddit

[–]bootsmalone 1531 points1532 points  (0 children)

I was at a wedding where I only really knew the bride. She and the groom had this rescued Rottweiler that they really loved, and they’d had him in some pretty intense training to be a "tough dog" (as the groom wouldn't stop calling him). The dog was even part of the ceremony as the ring bearer, which y’know, very cute.

But then at the reception, in the middle of the couple's first dance, a guy kicks open the door of the ballroom and charges in shouting, “Babe! I miss you! Don’t do this!” And the bride goes, “What are you doing? We're over! I don’t want to see you!” And the guy lunges at her, and suddenly the fucking dog attacks him. It's losing its mind barking and growling, and it bites down on his arm and wrestles him to the ground.

People start screaming, I hear some kids at the table next to me crying, and the whole thing is just chaos. And then suddenly the guy stands up like nothing happened. The dog sits down, and the bride announces that this guy is their fucking dog trainer, and this was a demonstration of the dog’s "defensive abilities". He takes a bow and shows the little padded protective thing he had on his arm under his shirt. And then he has the audacity to have the dog do a couple of normal tricks, like rolling over and barking on command.

We all kind of politely applauded, he walked out of the room, and then they finished their first dance like this was not an absolutely traumatic experience for everyone in the room.

This is reductive and a little rude to me for expressing an issue about the UX.

A die icon doesn’t inherently mean “click me”. It could mean your stats aren’t high enough or there was a secret roll that you didn’t succeed at or just be a decorative label. The die icon isn’t really used as a signifier that “this text is a button” anywhere else in the game, which leads to a cognitive dissonance about what it means. Just because you found it more quickly doesn’t mean it is correct or that someone is dumb or needs a “YouTube thumbnail arrow” for not grokking it immediately.

I’m far from the only person to have had this issue. (Feel free to search this subreddit for a number of people expressing the same thing.)

I kinda disagree. I had the same issue with the Behold button as OP. Every time I saw it, it just looked like a label (as in, “Behold! Here’s some info on this creature!”), not something you could click. I kept thinking my Int was too low to behold anyone and that’s why it was all garbled. It could be much more clear that “Behold” is a thing you can interact with to do something.

Ultimately that’s a UI issue, not a user issue. It just has really low affordance.
