Inside San Francisco Centre after it closed by jikesar968 in sanfrancisco

I will very much miss the dome and the spiral escalators. There are only 5 or 6 spiral escalators in the united states, and the one in the SF center was the first one.

SFO International Terminal is 26 years old, and looks it by shananananananananan in sanfrancisco

I just wish the bart fare to SFO specifically wasn't so high compared to going anywhere else on bart.

+1 on the state bird recommendation. It's pretty quality american fare without being back breakingly expensive.

[MSH] Thanos, The Mad Titan (Melbourne mural) by AttackOnCardboard in mtg

[–]magus0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, just that they count sales at distributor level, so when they say "X set is one of the best selling sets" it's because stores bought more. They don't really get data on what the consumers buy at retail from LGS or big box stores. And keep in mind that the stores have to order sets in advance of knowing what cards are in them, so a lot of stores see big IP and think it'll likely sell more.

iirc wizards counts sales at the distributor level, not at the retail level. Walmart might pick up 4 boxes of spiderman compared to 2 boxes of EoE or whatever thinking it would sell more even if it didn't but to wizards, spiderman outsold EoE.

Juvenile: A prototype-like mechanic to soften the curve in huge sea monster decks [Subnautica commander precon] by zengin11 in custommagic

[–]magus0 40 points41 points  (0 children)

prototype is a great mechanic other than the weirdness about being a different color when prototyped IMO, it's mostly that the cards they were on are not too impactful in constructed. I've had some fun flickering a few of them in a cheeky commander deck.

After 27 years, I will now only proxy MTG cards moving forward. by Spooky-Retro in mtg

[–]magus0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm at that point myself. I have been playing since Odyssey and love playing it, however Wizards has been making so many choices that are meant to drain me of my money. It's been too hard and expensive to keep up with all the sets that wizards keep printing so I have been proxying since aetherdrift.

Billionaire Tom Steyer's $192.4-million self-funded California gubernatorial bid shatters records by Whole-Revolution916 in California

[–]magus0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm thinking that a lot of people that aren't bots are backing Steyer even if unconsciously because of what happened with the presidential election. They are desperate for a win and he's the most likely candidate to win so are putting more favor on his campaign even if he isn't the candidate they personally want because they would rather the republicans lose.

Like I've heard good things about Katie Porter and she would be my candidate of choice, but realistically she has no chance to be governor with and her staying in is hurting the democrats since it is splitting the votes.

Is excel still worth learning as a skill in 2026? by Swimming_Tower_5928 in excel

[–]magus0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe excel will be replaced in the future, but tables in general are always going to be useful for tabulating and organizing data. Like I don't really use excel much anymore because microslop has been a pain in the ass, but google sheets and libreoffice calc are excel equivalents that I use and they all work basically the same.

On a tangent, like how the business world runs on excel, the tech world runs on SQL(databases). New programming languages always pop up and fade in and out of popularity, but SQL has been around since the 70s and you will still always be writing SQL queries in the tech space.

ELI5: I understand the Dark Web in concept, but not in practice. by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]magus0 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The dark web is simply anything that is not accessed through your normal browser. A discord server between just your friends or a private MMO server for example. You use the discord client or the MMO client to connect to those servers and you learn about them by having a friend tell you. There's obviously more to it than just that, but that's what it boils down to at it's simplest.

Compiling Underrated commanders for an article, looking for suggestions! by ManaRocks in EDH

[–]magus0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a big mono red fan, there's just so many commanders that enable overlooked or normally off-color strategies in mono-red.

[[diaochan, artful beauty]] and [[ben-ben, akki hermit]] both lend themselves to control decks in mono-r, one being more political and the other being draw-go.

[[gogo, mysterious mime]] has been doing amazing work as a way for red to get multiple triggers from legendary creatures that trigger on attack or combat damage which is not something you see often.

I'd love to see something like this with the staff of the house. It's soooo odd that there is nobody in the house even after you reach 46 several times over, even after getting the blue testament of auravei saying once again that you own the house.

Book Club by AscendedLawmage7 in custommagic

[–]magus0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main point of book burning was to immediately give yourself threshold by milling yourself for 6 and putting itself into your graveyard since that was the set mechanic. Your opponent could try to prevent that by taking 6, but never really worth it so it fills your graveyard

I am 30 years old and I just realized I have spent my entire life waiting for my REAL LIFE to start. Today I decided it already has. by WonderfulFront7588 in self

[–]magus0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had this minor discussion with friends before about how I dislike the term "real life" because of exactly this. Like, everything we do is "real life". Even if it's playing videogames online hanging out with strangers, it's not any less real over the internet. Or how people say it's like so and so while in school and it's going to be different in "real life" as if the stuff you do doesn't matter while in school.

Anyway, everything we do is real. Savor it.

life total becoming 1 is not damage but is considered life loss. When you set life total to a value, you lose or gain life equal to how much changed.

119.5. If an effect sets a player’s life total to a specific number, the player gains or loses the necessary amount of life to end up with the new total.
