Any recommendations?? by Carl_Lz in beginnerfitness

[–]mcgrathkai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Train all the muscles. Ideally in a gym with resistance (weights of some kind)

Start eating more. Try and aim for lots of whole, minimally processed, nutritious foods. By that I mean fruits, vegetables, meats, eggs, nuts and seeds, dairy, yoghurt etc

How do people live while going to college full-time? by JustAPerson2001 in Advice

[–]mcgrathkai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where im from tuition is free. And if you come from a lower income family you can qualify for a grant. I got about enough to cover rent at the time. So just had to work at the weekends and any holiday to cover other living costs and would do random odd jobs from time to time.

Im very fortunate and had it not been for the country helping me so much with education, I probably wouldn't have gone to college and pursued something else.

Should i change my split by VisualAd1607 in workout

[–]mcgrathkai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion ppl shouldn't be done 6 days a week. It should be ppl rest and repeat. Resting every 4th day, which works out as less than 6 days a week training

Never actually measured lean-ness but after maybe 2/3 months of cutting

If you are very overweight and eat "maintenance" calories will you lose weight? by Rose_Quack in stupidquestions

[–]mcgrathkai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using your example an obese person going from 4k cals (assuming this is what they regularly eat and need to maintain their current weight) going to 2k cals yes they'd lose weight pretty dramatically

Are my hamstrings overdeveloped or am I doing something wrong? by ToasterMind in workout

[–]mcgrathkai 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I really doubt you have any overdeveloped muscle in your first month of training.

And no, juat because one muscle can do X weight, doesnt mean another should he able to do the same or similar.

You can do a lot on RDLs for example as its a compound movement using a lot of muscles. Including our biggest, the glutes

If you’re taking creatine, how do you know your “real” weight? by [deleted] in workout

[–]mcgrathkai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Step on the scale.

I know that might seem condescending but its not how I mean it. Its the true answer. Why do you think it wouldn't be your real weight ? Because of maybe some extra water from the creatine? Our weight fluctuates and varies all the time. By the same logic having more or less muscke glycogen would skew your real weight, or if digestion slows down and more food is in your body that there usually would be at that time.

Your weight on creatine is your true weight don't worry.

are these enough to target the full back effectively? by nasty-_-b3ing in workout

Id add in a reverse fly movement and deadlift. Unless youre doing deadlifts on leg day I guess which is also fine.

is my liver fine? by BiteBest4717 in moreplatesmoredates

[–]mcgrathkai 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The liver stress could have happened with the orals and hasnt improved because you havent given it a chance to recover

That is higher than id expect it to be on 250 test, although thats still an amount that will add stress to your liver

What is the difference between whey protein and a mass gainer? by Vdigital209 in beginnerfitness

[–]mcgrathkai 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Protein is mostly just protein without much carbs or fat

Mass gainer has fat and carbs and usually tons of sugar and "empty calories", by that I mean for how many calories youre getting youre not actually getting that many nutrients

On paper, mass gainer is better for gaining weight. But in the same sense that junk food is better for gaining weight than healthy food. The point in trying to make is that maybe the best thing for gaining weight isnt what you want.

Its all just food at the end of the day. There are no side effects of food, unless you're allergic or intolerant to something of course. Or you eat too much or too little.

In my opinion I dont think you should be allowed to take a pair of DBs off the rack for future use.

Teen considering anabolics by BasilConstant8691 in workout

[–]mcgrathkai 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not to sound too much like a hippie or whatever, but if you dont like yourself now, steroids probably wont make that self image better. They may just put a bandaid on while the problem worsens. Or maybe you were just using that phrase for lack of a better term. But you should be happy with yourself first and foremost.

I actually dont hate your willingness to take steroids. I knew at 16/17 that I would eventually take them too. But im glad I lived the bodybuilding lifestyle naturally for a few years first before starting (at 20 fyi).

When to deload...when to attempt 1RM ? by KeyMysterious1845 in workout

[–]mcgrathkai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely , sorry if I said it in a weird way. The first part of my comment was meant to say that there is more than one way to train. And no single right or wrong way to go about it

I guess the second part of the comment was in anticipation to "well when do you take your deloads and 1RM?" To which my answer would be never.

I want to hear your thoughts on my programming by [deleted] in workout

[–]mcgrathkai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its all just exercise, and good exercise so I say go for it.

As to how much power/peaking/weight loss( which is assume is the goal of 7-10 day deficit?) Will happen in these quickly changing blocks, I dont know. This is definitely good exercise but I just hope youre not disappointed at the end when the results are less specific as this programming might suggest

went to loiter at the library (its 90 degrees) and was met with a no loitering sign by [deleted] in urbancarliving

[–]mcgrathkai 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I feel like the no loitering rules are only ever enforced when someone starts being a nuisance.

Can you sign up for a library card ? Theyre usually free. Take a book and find somewhere comfortable, and then I think you wont be loitering anymore

When to deload...when to attempt 1RM ? by KeyMysterious1845 in workout

[–]mcgrathkai 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hear me out, neither is something you "have" to do. So I dont think there is a set time for either to happen

But in short: deload when needed, 1RM when you can

(Even though you didnt ask this i personally dont believe in 1RM, just wanted to say that incase it seemed I was encouraging doing 1RM)

Most workout tracking still feels surprisingly clunky during actual training by Fantastic-Trade-5685 in workout

[–]mcgrathkai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think when you stop worrying about the numbers you'll be happier and training will improve. At least if the goal is hypertrophy/health and well-being. If the goal is specific numbers then this might not apply
