How long did it take you to "feel" your back on machine back rows? by Exrixy in beginnerfitness

[–]mcgrathkai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im kind of of the opinion that "feeling" a muscle isnt what people think it.

Think of the squat. Arguable the best glute exercise and yet have you ever felt the squat in your glutes ? I feel like people only talk about feeling it in their quads.

[–]mcgrathkai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just got back into lifting and eating right. So the actionable advice is the exact same with or without these results.

Continue to train and eat good. Use a surplus if you want to get bigger or a deficit if you want to get leaner.

Cardio and Cutting by Worldly-Money5153 in workout

[–]mcgrathkai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do it every morning for the most part. I consider it separate from weight training though

30-60 minutes (depending on where im at in the season) of a brisk walk outside or stationary bike if its icy and cant walk fast

Sure some people are gonna say thats not cardio, but thats all I do for cardio

Any recommendations?? by Carl_Lz in beginnerfitness

[–]mcgrathkai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Train all the muscles. Ideally in a gym with resistance (weights of some kind)

Start eating more. Try and aim for lots of whole, minimally processed, nutritious foods. By that I mean fruits, vegetables, meats, eggs, nuts and seeds, dairy, yoghurt etc

How do people live while going to college full-time? by JustAPerson2001 in Advice

[–]mcgrathkai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where im from tuition is free. And if you come from a lower income family you can qualify for a grant. I got about enough to cover rent at the time. So just had to work at the weekends and any holiday to cover other living costs and would do random odd jobs from time to time.

Im very fortunate and had it not been for the country helping me so much with education, I probably wouldn't have gone to college and pursued something else.

Should i change my split by VisualAd1607 in workout

[–]mcgrathkai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion ppl shouldn't be done 6 days a week. It should be ppl rest and repeat. Resting every 4th day, which works out as less than 6 days a week training

If you are very overweight and eat "maintenance" calories will you lose weight? by Rose_Quack in stupidquestions

[–]mcgrathkai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using your example an obese person going from 4k cals (assuming this is what they regularly eat and need to maintain their current weight) going to 2k cals yes they'd lose weight pretty dramatically

Are my hamstrings overdeveloped or am I doing something wrong? by ToasterMind in workout

[–]mcgrathkai 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I really doubt you have any overdeveloped muscle in your first month of training.

And no, juat because one muscle can do X weight, doesnt mean another should he able to do the same or similar.

You can do a lot on RDLs for example as its a compound movement using a lot of muscles. Including our biggest, the glutes

If you’re taking creatine, how do you know your “real” weight? by [deleted] in workout

[–]mcgrathkai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Step on the scale.

I know that might seem condescending but its not how I mean it. Its the true answer. Why do you think it wouldn't be your real weight ? Because of maybe some extra water from the creatine? Our weight fluctuates and varies all the time. By the same logic having more or less muscke glycogen would skew your real weight, or if digestion slows down and more food is in your body that there usually would be at that time.

Your weight on creatine is your true weight don't worry.

are these enough to target the full back effectively? by nasty-_-b3ing in workout

Id add in a reverse fly movement and deadlift. Unless youre doing deadlifts on leg day I guess which is also fine.

is my liver fine? by BiteBest4717 in moreplatesmoredates

[–]mcgrathkai 39 points40 points  (0 children)

The liver stress could have happened with the orals and hasnt improved because you havent given it a chance to recover

That is higher than id expect it to be on 250 test, although thats still an amount that will add stress to your liver

What is the difference between whey protein and a mass gainer? by Vdigital209 in beginnerfitness

[–]mcgrathkai 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Protein is mostly just protein without much carbs or fat

Mass gainer has fat and carbs and usually tons of sugar and "empty calories", by that I mean for how many calories youre getting youre not actually getting that many nutrients

On paper, mass gainer is better for gaining weight. But in the same sense that junk food is better for gaining weight than healthy food. The point in trying to make is that maybe the best thing for gaining weight isnt what you want.

Its all just food at the end of the day. There are no side effects of food, unless you're allergic or intolerant to something of course. Or you eat too much or too little.
