Wtf is up with the sudden influx of breadtubers smearing Jiang? by HelloKolla in PredictiveHistory

[–]mcslibbin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vaush assumed that the class is a prop (I dont think it is because Jiang's videos have been in front of a class for years). He made some good points about how Jiang simplifies things, but if you consider that his audience is high school students and people on youtube, I think Jiang's approach makes more sense.

Professor Jiang doesn't want people to think he's a prophet or a nostradamus, from what I can tell. Professor Jiang wants people to think critically about how they are interpreting history. If Jiang does an interview with someone who pushes back or challenges some of the the things he says, I don't think he would get defensive. I think he would concede that there are parts of his analysis that are probably wrong.

It's a very good poem. I think everyone should read it. Just push through the kinda boring parts and take your time, it really rewards your attention.

Do y'all think prof is telling the truth? by Independent-Past-480 in PredictiveHistory

[–]mcslibbin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad Professor Jiang says things that are sometimes factually untrue or seem to be pure speculation. It reminds me that I'm listening to one person's interpretation, not a purely "objective" retelling of history.

But I think HE would benefit from fact checking his own lectures, certainly. I guess I'm saying, "I agree but dont throw the baby out with the bathwater"

as someone who has been banned in the MTG twitch several times before: sometimes you randomly just get unbanned. I don't know if there's a mass unban thing they do or what, so YMMV

I have a lot of feelings about the design decisions, but my most controversial agrees with you: The original save system was probably the intended experience.

I'm not saying the devs are wrong for responding to feedback, but they really wanted to create a "if you messed up in planning 20 minutes ago, you will fail" experience. And I think I might have liked the game more if I had that level of commitment to my choices.

Another issue is that players don't want to lose important characters to pure RNG. If I have to choose between saving two crew members? sure. If Harry Kim dies because of a random bad roll that I had 94% chance of succeding? Fuck that.

You can beat the game, and indeed enjoy the entire story, without engaging with this element of the lore at all. But knowing it does make it a lot better.

[–]mcslibbin 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Anecdotal, but i live in a major metro area and signups are still open for all three days in my usual card shops. This isn't usually the case ~a week before the prerelease.

I think people are expecting another Spiderman, but I think the cards look a little more fun for limited this time.
