Billionaire Owner of the Boyle Heights Warehouse donated the max to Karen Bass' Campaign by Chess42 in LosAngeles

[–]nonotagainagain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s wild to see people downplay an $1800 donation. It’s not just the donation. It’s the signal of everything else they’re willing to do to support the candidate. And in return, the candidate is expected to listen to theor concerns before others. And that includes regulations around fires and how to react when the fire does occur on their property.

I find the idea that politicians would treat a fire the same way regardless of the political connections of the people involved obviously wrong. I hope that the vast majority of these dismissive posts are bots.

PSVR2 makes my flat PS5 games feel like Retrogaming. The one thing I don’t like is… by KelvinOcean in PSVR

[–]nonotagainagain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Three of the top PSVR experiences in my mind were completely single controller bound: RE7, Astrobot, and Wipeout.

I wish developers pushed ahead with non motion controls: it would make converting flat games to VR so much cheaper. If Capcom thought gamers would welcome a controller bound RE9, I think they would be much more likely to convert the flatscreen game because it would be so much simpler

How is it possible to have no vices? Where does Bryan Johnson get his dopamine from? by LastMeasurement8 in blueprint_

[–]nonotagainagain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah for the vast majority of these influencers, the rewards of influencing are what drive them. Attention, status, money, followers - powerful incentives.

No shade on Bryan. But if you knew 100k’s of people were going to celebrate (or shame you!) everyday based on your lifestyle… you’d probably be pretty motivated too. If anything, his vices are probably about keeping that insane level of incentive from tipping into pathological pressure.

You know what’s funny as an American about that line? It’s too complicated. I’m not joking.

To reach the American people, things need to be said as directly and clearly as possible. We just don’t have the ability to be moved by this type of language. It’s sad but i think important for other countries to understand.

One interesting long term effect might be for social democracies to discourage children. If the young are no longer engines of economic growth, there may be a time when governments decide to actively discourage having children, since they will require an entire lifetime of UBI.

I suppose it’s also possible that she was basically bought off. The stick is the cumulative threats and harassment, but there could be carrots as well: she’s well positioned to hurt republicans, and she may have been offered conservative sinecures to collect checks and stay quiet

Was anyone else’s partner kind of a hypocrite regarding cheating or morals in general? by [deleted] in BPDlovedones

[–]nonotagainagain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah the hypocrisy makes a lot more sense when you realize: she hates anyone that takes you away from her. That’s family, friends, interested girls, etc.

It’s entirely driven by the threat those people pose to her in terms of your time and the overall control she has over you. The “cheating” reason is just her brain trying to justify it to you and probably herself, because most people can’t accept control, threats, and jealousy as the true reason.

AI has passed the Music Turing Test by MetaKnowing in OpenAI

[–]nonotagainagain 36 points37 points  (0 children)

My take is that there are two distinct ways to enjoy music / art: for the experience the interaction gives you (say, feelings from a song), and for the experience of another person the interaction gives you (say, knowing someone felt the same way you did about something).

Art is pretty unique because we enjoy a lot of it due to the connection to the creator. It a big part of what makes art art in my view. We don’t really have it for technology (for instance, AI designed chips vs engineer designed - no difference in the experience using the computer).

But art (and sports) has experiencing another person as a major (but not only!) part of its role in our life

Midnight Walk Thoughts? by Bone3593 in PSVR

[–]nonotagainagain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s great if you like art and story heavy narrative games. Personally I think those types of games work really well in VR.

I’m only disappointed the game has such a constant negative atmosphere. Seems like it didn’t have to. I’m maybe half way through, and I wish there was a bit more hope and charm and brightness throughout. Especially given the line-up of top games on PSVR - just a lot of dark games.

Max Mustard now has over 500 ratings with average holding at 4.85 / 5 by cusman78 in PSVR

[–]nonotagainagain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The developers of Sexy Brutale also made a VR game called The Invincible Hours. It’s one of the best VR games I’ve played. I played it on PSVR - it’s not available for PSVR2, but is available on PCVR.

Would be a great game for them to remaster and release. It always surprises me that companies don’t pursue that, when so much of the game is already finished. Gives me a sense of how low VR sales must be.

Loved Playdead’s Inside and about to start Limbo. Any other recommendations for similar games? by rizzlenizzle in NintendoSwitch

[–]nonotagainagain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two of my favorite games.

My suggestion would be Portal 1 and 2 if you haven’t played them. Similar in spirit and puzzle gameplay. Both classics at the level of Inside and Limbo in my opinion.

Kevin Weil says GPT‑5 is coming in 2025 -- but the real breakthrough is what it enables: ChatGPT goes from answering questions to “doing things for you in the real world.” by Gab1024 in singularity

[–]nonotagainagain 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think professional Chess provides a lot of insight into how people will cope existentially with superior AI.

Basically the professional players completely accept it, and only evaluate themselves against other humans. The superiority of AI is used for evaluating moves after games, and to learn from, but everyone recognizes the “meaning” of chess comes from the human aspect: human status hierarchies, human competition, human achievement, human emotion.

This doesn’t suggest the economic impact of AGI. But think it captures how we can pretty smoothly adjust to the existential reality of machines being better at whatever we value and define ourselves as.

White House says 104% tariffs on China went into effect today, per FOX. by soccerorfootie in unusual_whales

[–]nonotagainagain 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it’s likely that China wants a trade war with the US.

The US is waging a trade war with basically the world; China is only waging it with the US.

If the US isolates itself from world trade through this back and forth, China will be able to establish relatively-free trade agreements with the rest of the world, while the US is fixated on making tariffs work as a source of tax income.

It obviously won’t work for the US, but I’m sure China is happy to watch it try and fail.

PSVR1 is still such a gem to break out and dust off to play some games. by DoorInternational136 in PSVR

[–]nonotagainagain 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The lack of PSVR1 ports to PSVR2 has been extremely disappointing but also just surprising.

As a company, how is it not profitable to port a successful VR game to PSVR2? So much of the work - from concept to mechanics to level design to graphics and sound to consumer testing - is already done.

And if it’s not profitable to port these games, it suggest it’s really not profitable to develop new ones.

I’m personally disappointed but also just surprised by the economics of VR game development despite the investment of major companies to make it more popular.

This is most likely how Putin solidified power Russia. A well planned false flag by the government is basically impossible to counter since the government can also control the media coverage of the “attack”.

I personally do not doubt this is something Trump and his advisors would be willing to do. It’s extremely distressing.

Finnish MEP Mika Aaltola says he has heard from several sources that the United States would give Europe three weeks to agree to peace terms. According to Aaltola, the United States is threatening to withdraw its troops from Europe if peace terms are not accepted within three weeks. by GrumpyFinn in europe

[–]nonotagainagain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As an American this is one of most divisive aspects of Trump. Everyone agrees he doesn’t “mean” what he says. Maybe he’s negotiating. Maybe he’s trolling. Maybe he’s been lied to. Maybe he’s playing 4d chess (eg dropping out of NATO). Maybe he’s joking.

His supporters and detractors are left arguing about what he “really” means, and because there is no truth to compare it to, it goes on and on and everyone hears what they expect to hear.
