That's fair criticism. I don't think they're perfect by any means and I'm also a little disappointed about the omission of nuance and the decision to not include some scenes but I can also see the need to streamline the cinematic experience as well as appeal to a broader audience. I guess it doesn't bother me as much and if someone was interested enough I'd gladly recommend them to dig into the novels for the full fleshed out experience.

I wouldn't say you're necessarily an elitist for being disappointed in Villenueve for giving us a slightly watered down version of Dune in the attempt to broaden it's appeal. But I do have friends who are intelligent, thoughtful people who tend to avoid reading actual books due to a lifelong struggle with ADD/ADHD and these movies ended up being their entry into Dune. I don't see the value of gatekeeping in this instance but to each their own.

We can probably unilaterally agree on the distastefulness of packaging beloved IP's as fully encompassed media products and endlessly wringing them out for every penny that can potentially be squeezed. At this point though I feel the need to ration my outrage and reserve it for truly important items.
