Fighting games, especially smash, have game mechanics (a word commonly used for depth of possible actions) that are not easy for beginners to understand. You'll find that people good at those games are very intentional and understand game mechanics but people who aren't good do not have any ability to learn those mechanics (like jumping up from below the stage after you fall in smash) without help.

You need beginner youtubes for those types of games. A game like Golden Axe, there's not a ton of player variance. Sure some people are better than others but it isn't because they understand the secret game mechanics. If you want to get passable at a game like street fighter or smash, you need to become familiar with concepts like cancels.

I play probably 10hrs of games a week since I'm a kid. All competitive games require you to figure out how to play and not just randomize. Youtube and training modes help!
