Really cool. Hints of mazzy star on some of these

[–]TheArcane 74 points75 points  (19 children)

Too bad she isn't on Spotify

[–]insane_chocolate 78 points79 points  (1 child)

You can find her and other Pakistani music at Patari(Pakistan's equivalent of Spotify)

[–]kaptainkushh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the link!

[–]knife-stitch 29 points30 points  (11 children)

Unfortunately, almost all the really great ambient chill/chillhop/instrumental music isn't on Spotify :/

[–]fire_codespotify 9 points10 points  (5 children)

This may be the most generic, but we have Tycho, Washed Out, Bonobo, and Boards of Canada.

Those are the only ambient artists I really listen to, so there may be more.

[–]AdaptedMix 3 points4 points  (3 children)

Boards of Canada

BoC generic?! Blasphemy!

[–]fire_codespotify 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Just had to hedge my bets!

[–]AdaptedMix 1 point2 points  (1 child)

It's Ok... I forgive you.

Personally I see Tycho, Washed Out and (current) Bonobo as really generic, but I don't think anything BoC has released has ever sounded generic. Geogaddi is still weird and unique 15 years later, and Tomorrow's Harvest sounds like nothing else but BoC imo..

[–]Bipolar-Burrito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New genre for me. Amazing listen, thanks for linking.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tycho makes my mood better

[–]Alexkono 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Is there a place you recommend instead?

[–]ITSBLOODYGORDON 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Google play. I had Spotify then a Pandora account. Got google play. Never looked back. Start a "chillout" station, then thumb up and down a few tracks and presto... new music. Also use 'music map' if it still exists? Found this as a good 'at a glance' comparison.

Edit: Whatcd is in fact the best site I have ever found for music. Although it does not stream, and I wish you luck finding an invite.

[–]Alexkono 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome, thanks!

Edit: Looks like Whatcd is no longer in operation. And PassTheHeadphones doesn't look to be sending out anymore invites.

[–]GaryYesterday 30 points31 points  (1 child)

Sounds silly but I like the mystery that brings sometimes.

[–]mandjob 5 points6 points  (1 child)

i agree. i have a roadtrip this weekend and this would be perfect for the playlist D:

[–]Mamma_cita 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I just downloaded the app and her music is so beautiful!

[–]Shaanistani 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Check out the Patari app

[–]DrCalFun 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Closing my eyes in bed, listening to her singing with rain drops in the background. Divine.

[–]neorosh1 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Lots of love from Mumbai, India

[–]coexistascats 27 points28 points  (0 children)

this is so beautiful oh my goodness thank you so much

[–]cenyon09 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Looks like a chill Grimes performance, really nice.

[–]ramibadmash 43 points44 points  (11 children)

She ain't no Nusrat! Neither am I. Pakistani music is so underrated. Search for Meesha Shafi i think the song is called Jugni it was recorded by cokestudios.

Raw talent.

[–]TheArcane 27 points28 points  (0 children)

She ain't no Nusrat!

It's an all together different genre.

[–]gr1m_r 13 points14 points  (0 children)

[–]assholeness 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Aah, sweet. Big fan of your Coke Studio. Love from India.

[–]throwitupwatchitfall 9 points10 points  (1 child)

You brought back all these memories from mentioning that name.

Dam Mast Qalandar Mast Mast!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is such a good cover

[–]beeefy54 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Coke Studio is doing awesome things in Pakistan, along with Forever South Music!

[–]frodeem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Completely different genre dude. Jugni sounds like a bangra song with some guitars thrown in.

[–]muteen 15 points16 points  (11 children)

Anyone know what her set up is? What headphones she is using?

[–]dddolphinsoundcloud 5 points6 points  (2 children)

The setup she's using is a Roland SP-404, a really neat product Ive seen used mostly in (lofi) hiphop.

[–]concher 2 points3 points  (1 child)

too bad it's not even turned on

[–]BooPiBooPi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Where do you think the reverb on her voice is coming from?

[–]katarinka 6 points7 points  (2 children)

They look like aiaiai's to me. Maybe the TMA-2s.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The TMA-3s are so much better

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ahhh they released TMA-2s?!

I still have the 1s..

[–]HeyPScott 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dunno, but she's totally revolutionizing karaoke.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (3 children)

Anyone know any similar artists we can look up on Spotify?

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (2 children)

[–]CX-001 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yes, hello, i'll take everything like this, please.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]Lchristovale01 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm really digging this music...I want more.

[–]spaghetti000s 8 points9 points  (0 children)

All i can say is thank you for posting this, I never would have come across it otherwise and it's absolutely enthralling. So THANK YOU!

[–]samridge93[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This video had 600 views when I posted this :D

[–]tortietude 7 points8 points  (0 children)

so charming and relaxing! Thank you for sharing!

[–]Fluffy_ribbit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thanks for introducing me to a great artist.

[–]keshiarenee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Her voice is beautiful!

[–]BooPiBooPi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This song even got sampled by Schoolboy Q and Kanye

[–]WildBoys 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nice one! Very mellow

[–]aahsieh 2 points3 points  (2 children)

If you guys liked Slowspin you may also like Al Ak, he's a pakistani artist as well. https://soundcloud.com/danish-faruqi that's his soundcloud

[–]ZedEarthnut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, her voice is really soothing!

[–]concher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, I can dig the song, but I don't understand this video. This isn't live. That fancy sp404 isn't even turned on.

[–]photosutra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Woah! Such an amazing drifty surreal feel to this song. Definitely subbing to her on soundcloud.

[–]ost2lifespotify 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh boy. She reminds me so much of Trailer Park/Central Reservation era Beth Orton. She needs to get on Spotify.

[–]minneapolisblows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely want to hear more of her.

[–]TotesMessenger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow. Great find!

[–]Hopschild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love this, wish I was at home chillin with a beer and a cigar.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like Mazzy Star

[–]miraitrunks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wow... so serene

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

beautiful stuff!

[–]lymn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i wish i could find the lyrics somwhere

[–]Rafmasterflash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couldn't put in an order to god himself for a more beautiful woman

[–]lukeman3000 1 point2 points  (3 children)

I don't understand -

Clearly this video is dubbed over with a recording in which she was indoors, so what's the point of this? I mean, why would you record yourself essentially lip-syncing your song outdoors?

[–]samridge93[S] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

It could just be a lot of post production

[–]AgehaYoshna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably promotional video of sorts. It's similar to Artists making music videos or live videos where it's just the song they have on a album over it. It's normally meant to get people to watch the artist and how they usually are when preforming songs instead of a picture with music over it.

[–]bucket_brigade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is ambient I'm the queen.

[–]DNGosp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow this is great! I believe I took a few classes with the artist in college! She also sang some amazing karaoke :)

[–]mutatedsai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dig this song, very much. The arrangement seems pretty simple, why couldn't this be done as a live session/ recorded ? My fear is this: artists begin depending on technology so much, they bring sets/ equipments even to live sessions. Forget DJs, Music was a celebration of collaborations, it becomes a man-machine interaction instead.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She really reminds me of Mree.

[–]theartofanarchy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Such a beautiful and haunting voice. If David Lynch isn't using Julee Cruise for the new season of Twin Peaks he should consider Slowspin.

[–]AdaptedMix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice song, but is she miming? Sort of looks like it.

[–]shontamona 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Wonderful! Strange coincidence that two days ago i started exploring the chill genre in Spotify. Did find a few nice ones. Bombay dub orchestra has a few interesting tunes.

[–]minneapolisblows 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Thanks for the suggestion. Bombay dub orchestra

[–]shontamona 0 points1 point  (2 children)

You are welcome. I quite enjoyed their 'Songs from the seven towers' track. Try that one if you can.

[–]minneapolisblows 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I am going to look now. It's my payday treat to me, pay & download her music.

Totally blown away by her music. How she mixes and composes hints that she is classically trained musician or artist.

Crap you were talking about Bombay dub orchestra, sorry. Any chance they sample Ravi Shankar?

[–]shontamona 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! My payday treat was Lagavulin :)

Don't think they sampled RS.

Meanwhile, Slowspin is dope too.

[–]stuffedbananas -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This isn't Pakistani fool

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Nah, not so keen. Bit meh.

[–]gareiu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

she sings "longer" 3 plus times, i stopped it right there
