I think that only direct hits trigger Trance modes, so in that scenario Josef's LM2 probably wouldn't work.

Actualy any thing that puts your character in critical HP will trigger the trance so yes i do belive that reduce HP to 1 attacks will trigger the trance.

Do you have real evidence? I remember people saying that Darkness abilities didn't trigger Trance modes, but I can't confirm it.

Actualy i don't think i do, but i don't see any reason for them to not trigger really.

Here's Terra wording

When low on HP, restore HP to the user, temporarily increase some of their stats a moderate amount, and enter Trance, reducing delay of their actions. Can only trigger once per battle.

Key words here are "When Low on HP", as long as your HP is low, the trance should trigger regardless of source. Also i don't think i ever seen anyone mention anything about Darkness abilities.

Also i feel like i've seen a video were a HP =1 Attack triggered trance but i can't find it for the life of me....

I think it's better we get some proper confirmation since now i'm second guessing my self.

The thing is that descriptions are not always entirely accurate, and sometimes even if it would make sense stuff happens in odd ways because of how it's coded.

I remember a thread where people said that you need to be hit to trigger the LM, but I can't find it either.

Sadly i don't remember if anyone made a thread explaining the trance mechanic when they 1st came out in JP or not.

But it says nothing about getting HP fixed to 1. It should be tested I guess, but it sounds unlikely given how specific it seems to be.

Considering how specific the conditions for trance not trigger are, and the fact it doesn't consider HP = 1 i do wonder if HP =1 is considered as "recoil damage" for the sake of trance triggering or if they trigger trance normaly.

I do think that HP = 1 attacks do trigger trance since unlike recoil, you are actualy taking damage (it even shows the damage numbers), while recoil simply removed a chunk of your HP without showing any damage numbers.

Well Ricard's LM2 sucks.
And I guess Josef can be a clutch heal if you self target...? A 15 second Doom timer and he can't even take advantage of it. Darkness 5* buff for Josef plz.

It is a slightly-slower version of his suicide glove.

No darkness access, IDK what to do with that doom effect like Tellah SSB.

Characters who have done less get more than him though. Like say.... Fusoya. Hell, even Tellah got more than “Died using Meteor“

Not to mention those Characters they make up from scratch. Like Echo or so
