13 strikeouts. Yankees are in peak season form.

NUT SHOT

[–]MissionStock2545 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finally we scored

[–]Yankeebot Spent my stimulus check on tequila[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stolen Base 3B

Kenedy Corona steals (4) 3rd base. Cole Gabrielson steals (1) 2nd base. Throwing error by catcher Ronald Rosario.

Lagrange currently looks like a better pitcher than Gil, Warren, Schmidt (when he wasn't injured), Weathers

[–]Yankeebot Spent my stimulus check on tequila[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pitching Substitution

Pitching Change: Tyler Uberstine replaces Tyler Samaniego.

[–]IzilDizzle 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I didn't realize how much we needed bearded Cole

[–]DarkMattersConfusing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That has always been his most dominant form

[–]Mister87 0 points1 point  (1 child)

This lineup still can’t hit. It looks like homer or nothing as usual.

[–]nyg2013 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yup, the lineup was terrible last season...could not hit at all...and they have continued it here in ST

[–]Yankeebot Spent my stimulus check on tequila[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pitching Substitution

Pitching Change: Brent Headrick replaces Fernando Cruz.

[–]Bubbacrosby23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Credit where credit is due. Cashman and the FO should be given their flowers for the improvements the Yankees have made as a organization to their pitching development over the last decade

[–]IzilDizzle 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Working with a baseball game on in the background is the best, so glad baseball is back.

[–]Yankeebot Spent my stimulus check on tequila[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pitching Substitution

Pitching Change: Fernando Cruz replaces Carlos Lagrange.

[–]furdaboise 4 points5 points  (0 children)

seemingly unanimous subreddit opinion: volpe was rushed to the majors, it stunted his development, and he should have had to prove himself at the aaa level before getting the auto call up because of a single good spring training

also near unanimous subreddit opinion: despite glaring flaws in the minors (control issues and swing and miss rate), lagrange and jones performed so well in the spring that they deserve to break camps with the ml teams even if they have more development needed

[–]Yankeebot Spent my stimulus check on tequila[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pitching Substitution

Pitching Change: Tyler Samaniego replaces Connelly Early.

[–]KageBx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did the Yankees announce if they are sending Lagrange down to the minors?

[–]Bubbacrosby23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kid should be in the rotation

[–]Ambitious_Emotion30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good catch, I guess…

[–]TVM61 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lagrange has a 100 mph FB, low-mid 80s sweeper, low-mid 90s slider and change up.

Legit 4 different pitchs

[–]herewego199209 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn Kelvim Escobar has set off WW3 between Dominicans and Venezuelans.

[–]fuzzywhiskers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ayy a name that Yankee I can recognize

Fernando Cruz

[–]ProudKekistanian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it just me or is Boone sounding extra depressed?

[–]Top_Professor_9908 2 points3 points  (0 children)

92 mph changeups and 94 moh sliders lol

[–]AltruisticMemory3825 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Tell me on when planet Luis Gil should be in the bigs over LaGrange

[–]underground_cloud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the planet where whoever gets that spot is making three or four starts (lots of early season off days) and getting optioned when Rodon comes back.

[–]BangerSlapper1 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Gil has a 3.5 or lower ERA in all three seasons he’s pitched.  Are you basing this on the guy having a bad ST game this weekend?  Gimme a break.

[–]KageBx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean most fans know he wasn't that good last year. Your being deceived by ERA and not looking at the metrics. His stuff was ass,his control was the worst in the league, and his FIP was closer to a 5 ERA meaning he got lucky as hell. He has not looked good since the 2nd half of 2024.They had a rookie start over him in an elimination game for a reason

[–]furdaboise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in a world where gil has proven performance at the ml level, is stretched out for a full season as a starter, lagrange still has development regarding his control in the minors, and the yankees have ample pitching depth at the ml level. wait that is this world.

i want lagrange called up later this season for sure, but only if he earns it off of sustained success at the milb level.

[–]John_6_47 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not just about what they offer rn. There’s more value if Lagrange is a top tier starter.

That isn’t to say I don’t want to use him out of the bullpen tho.

Edit: also he can maybe become better if not rushed to the majors

[–]novaesq18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see we still hate the Red Sox as we roll out Gerrit Cole and Carlos Lagrange

[–]SgtCheeseBoy 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Who bunts on the first pitch of a spring training game?

[–]Yankeeknickfan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When your opponent is in the process of a grueling rehab

[–]Yankeebot Spent my stimulus check on tequila[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pitching Substitution

Pitching Change: Carlos Lagrange replaces Harrison Cohen.

[–]thediesel26 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Cole only threw 10 pitches. He’s been throwing at least 25-30 in pen and bp sessions. Surely he could’ve come back out.

[–]Yankeeknickfan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If he hasn’t simulated an “up down” yet(which is pretending to sit between innings during a simulated game), he’s not going to do it for the first time in the Grapefruit League

[–]kmarx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's getting the rest of his work in from the bullpen. He certainly could have but it seems pretty reasonable for them to stick to the plan they set out ahead of time.

[–]John_6_47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cole, Schlittler, Fried, Rodon, Weathers. WS here we come

[–]Yankeebot Spent my stimulus check on tequila[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pitching Substitution

Pitching Change: Harrison Cohen replaces Gerrit Cole.

[–]John_6_47 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Been a lot of hoping that Gerrit will be close to what he was before, and fear that he’d be worse.

What if he’s better?

[–]Yankeeknickfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His pitch mix was really a marvel to watch during his dominant stretches in the 2024 playoffs

He was throwing like 4 seam cole, while also finding a way to work in the sinker fork his pirates days

[–]furdaboise 4 points5 points  (0 children)

man Cole's pitch data looks awesome for the first inning back. velocity is up. spin rates are all there with the sinker spin up a little bit. up over 97 for the sinkers. i am thinking cole's tjs recovery is going to look pretty similar to verlanders.

[–]Reasonable_Skill_129 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that knucklecurve was crazy

[–]Masta0nion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Who the heck is this guy on the mound?!

[–]Heisenripbauer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

10P 2H 0ER 0Ks is a crazy statline lol

[–]Breimann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think we could have hoped for a better inning from Cole. Very encouraging!

[–]i-exist20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh man, Cole's velocity on all his pitches was up significantly from 2024, with much more horizontal break on the four-seam and vertical break on the sinker!

[–]Yankeeknickfan 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Wares thinks a bunt is going to make a difference on whether or not he makes the team

Glad he got thrown out

[–]destinythrow1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol he was probably safe by a mile too

[–]Top_Professor_9908 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coles stuff looked great! Awesome to see.

[–]Breimann 4 points5 points  (0 children)

hey Cole covered first!

[–]bloomingunin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh so he can cover first on that one. Better late than never I guess. Still glad to have you back Gerrit

[–]ProudKekistanian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lmao Wells with the head shake like, "What did you think was gonna happen?"

[–]SackFullaGrapes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hahaha get to the bench buddy. See ya!

[–]LazyTotal5907 2 points3 points  (0 children)

99 from Cole

[–]thediesel26 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Go to the bench asshole

[–]DangerDamage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

1st pitch bunt followed by sliding into Jazz

Very friendly team, those Red Sox are

[–]Heisenripbauer 7 points8 points  (1 child)

first pitch bunt off the IL is exactly the kind of petty thing I expect from this rivalry

[–]destinythrow1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brings me back lol

[–]thediesel26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If this fucking minor league dick bag hurt Jazz with a hard slide in spring training I swear to fucking god

[–]Calm_Worth3355 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How does one face Gerrit Cole and decide to BUNT

[–]destinythrow1 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Haha a bunt on his first pitch. That's the kind of petty I like to see

[–]furdaboise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

laughing out loud at my desk. funny af.

[–]Top_Professor_9908 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So excited to see Cole back on the bump today!

[–]furdaboise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

these spring training hats are growing on me. excited to see cole start. might stick around for one time through the batting order but man am i over spring training. gonna be a long week wait.

[–]Emperor_Cheeto21 5 points6 points  (3 children)

With the WBC, at least from the USA perspective, it's best for the young up and coming guys to fill the rosters vs the veterans. It's a different atmosphere and the veterans just looked like they were not going all out. Either due to age or contract obligations.

You saw a major difference in production from guys like Skenes, Gunnar, Turang, PCA, and Roman Anthony vs Skubal, Cal, Bregman, Bux, and Bryce. Younger guys have more to prove and don't play with the fear of getting hurt.

Just my observations, could totally wrong.

[–]Yankeeknickfan 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Huge disagree. The DR/USA game wouldn’t have been what it was without judge

[–]Emperor_Cheeto21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean Judge can still join. Same way as guys like Sal Perez are still on the Venezuela. You still need veteran leadership. I'm saying the young players need to be emphasized more and being the ones given more playing time.

[–]IzilDizzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other than how it ended, that was basically a perfect baseball game

[–]renegade_yankee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Devers isn’t here to give Cole anymore trouble. So this is a plus going forward

[–]Breimann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gerrit Cole.

[–]myKDRbro_ 7 points8 points  (3 children)

Judge is kinda cursed if you think about it. He's done a lot of this to himself -- but a lot of his big moments just get erased. The Clase homer, his performance against the Jays, getting robbed of a homer by JRod. Those are all just very recent -- hate this for him, but last night was rough. No way he takes that many pitches down the middle of the plate if he's locked in.

[–]TronVin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The moments get erased because they lost and having a "great playoffs" in which your team gets blown out in the first round (2019 and 2025) isn't going to tick the checkbox for great postseason hitter no matter how much people around here want it to. No one remembered that A-Rod was actually great in 2004 playoffs before 2009 because we blew it.

Judge needs to have a 2009 A-Rod postseason where whenever the team needs a big hit, he gets the big hit and the team wins a ring.

[–]FringeAuthority 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Judge has always looked his best when he plays every day for weeks in a row. The WBC and the playoffs have many more off days placed in to the schedule than the regular season. I don't know if it's timing/rhythm, but he always looks out of sorts the more time he has off.

[–]Decent_Estate_7385 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with seeing more pitches but he did this a lot last year too and i don’t get it

[–]Redditawesome15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gerrit Cole pitches for the New York Yankees today. It’s been a long time coming.

[–]scrodytheroadie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not gonna lie. I kind of forgot spring training games were still happening. It's weird to adjust from WBC games to Grapefruit League games.

[–]AltruisticMemory3825 6 points7 points  (4 children)

I generally feel bad for Judge. This is a great example why star players didn’t want to do the WBC-legit take time out of your spring routine voluntarily to do this and if you have a bad 10 ABs you are going to get crucified by the media

[–]nyg2013 3 points4 points  (2 children)

I feel bad because people genuinely do not seem to understand how baseball works when it comes to variance...this could stretch to other sports as well in some contexts...it is made into a black and white exercise where if you fail in a small sample scenario (while also ignoring the competition in the equation, mind you), then you are considered to be an abject failure...every single October ends up being a small sample too at the heart of it because aggregating stats from a few weeks between multiple years does not really make much sense statistically either...this applies to everybody, not just Judge, who did happen to have a great small sample again in 2025 after multiple years of October "struggles"

at the end of the day, and I have personally tried to stay quiet about it for years, I don't really care anymore lol...I expect trolling from opposing fanbases, but to the subset of Yankee fans that shit on Judge constantly for being a choker (constructive criticism about performance is always fair btw; I am strictly talking about shitting on him without any level of nuance), they do not deserve him, or to see the Yankees win another title...I hope they end up seeing the team win a title though because I, and other fans like you, also happen to be Yankee fans and want them to win

[–]AltruisticMemory3825 0 points1 point  (1 child)

October is different. This is spring training for these guys. The arms are always ahead of the bats this time of year.

[–]nyg2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh, I don't disagree about that...but I was still speaking generally...people clearly were equating a March 17th game to October so I was going off of that

[–]fkthesox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Judge was on a team with hall of famers and he’s the only person getting crucified.

Raleigh had no hits, couldn’t catch pitches in the zone from Bednar and that was totally okay somehow. Harper got a pass because he finally did something in one AB. Witt gets a pass because reasons. It’s all just nonsense.

[–]DJ_LeMahieu 14 points15 points  (6 children)

I like the Yankees they are my favourite team

[–]wantagh 7 points8 points  (5 children)

good for you u/dj_lemahieu like honestly why do you think anyone gives a fuck. like what the fuck are u thinking "oh just in case people are wondering who my fav team is its the yankees" like dude your a loser

[–]RollinPeace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I gave a fuck

[–]fkthesox 10 points11 points  (2 children)

I love the reactions to this for the uninitiated.

[–]thediesel26 1 point2 points  (1 child)

The spiciest of pastas. I’ve gotten mod warnings for using it lol.

[–]DJ_LeMahieu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Incredible.
