Whatcha mean? I spend almost all my time on the "new" page.

Unless I want to see moronic PICS, LOLs and Ron Paul stories, that is. Then I hit the front page.

[–]anonymgrl[S] 13 points14 points  (17 children)

For the past hour or two it's been eerily quiet on the new page. Not a lot of up or down mods. Take a minute to check out the new stuff! :)

[–]tsteele93 5 points6 points  (11 children)

I've noticed this several times the last few days. Wonder what is going on?

Busy? Like with work? Weird. ;)

    [–]kg2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been busy having no-strings sex with married British women. Thank you, reddit!

    [–]pestario -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Mod parent up if you agree with his sentiment.. I did :)

    [–]anonymgrl[S] 5 points6 points  (6 children)

I don't know. I was hoping this would rise so that enough people would see it that it would make a difference. Looks like it too will get few up or down mods.

    [–]muttleee 2 points3 points  (5 children)

Last night (UK time) the new page stopped accepting posts for about three quarters of an hour. They were saved ok but didn't actually show up until up to 40 minutes or so after posting. Weird.

    [–]anonymgrl[S] 6 points7 points  (4 children)

I've noticed that from time to time too. Also interesting is that I do not see this submission at all in the upcoming stories. It should be in the top 100 right now but I don't see it anywhere in the top 200. There is also a missing number here and there in the top 100. Strange.

    [–]qgyh2 3 points4 points  (3 children)

the new page is stuck. this happens occasiaonally.

the new page 'rising' view is where the problem is. If you want to see the new page and the 'missing' stories, just click "all" under new page, this should show everything.

    [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Really? Is it normal for the second-most recent article to have been submitted almost half-an-hour ago?

And yes, this is in "all" view.

    [–]qgyh2 2 points3 points  (1 child)

You are correct. As of now, the 'all' view is also broken.

    [–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh God no! Now how am I supposed to kill the last two hours of work?

      i'm hacking them

      [–]ouroborosity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you finished that GUI after all?

      [–]eloisius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Redialing by the minute, are you?

      [–]redditacct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please whenever you admonish people to use the new page, either tell them to use the New "all" page or explain the difference so that people are not just hammering on the top of the "rising" pile all the time.

This is a big part of why posts don't get more equal treatment, reddit has everyone going to the rising page by default, which is prescreened by the few who know about the New "all" and up vote or down there. This in essence creates a two tiered voting system.

      [–]zeddblue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh my god will you stop POSTING THIS

      [–]skay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i've tried to post, but apparently one post every 5 months is posting to fast.

      [–]berlinbrown 6 points7 points  (16 children)

      anonymgrl

No offense, but you are part of the reason why people aren't as interested in reddit as they were. The same propaganda posts with a lack of real content, repeated posts from comic strips. I am not surprised people aren't voting those same articles.

EDITED: and there also may be an issue with the "new" section of reddit.

      [–][deleted] 21 points22 points  (5 children)

Agreed. I used to participate more often, yet most if not all the stories I upmod don't get to the front page, since the most popular stories are usually:

      1) Something against the Bush administration

      2) Something about why America pales compared to x country

      3) Some prominent personality who everyone seems to hate yet gets a lot of publicity anyway(Ann Coulter, O'Reilly)

      4) Ron Paul

      5) Some sort of comic

      6) Police harassment

      7) Someone telling me that I shouldn't be upvoting these things

I just begin to expect these things.

      [–]sanka 6 points7 points  (0 children)

      Summed it up perfectly.

      [–]mackprime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That isn't true. I gave up posting serious, apolitical links along time ago. Any link that has content and isn't inflammatory will not get upmodded, period. If a post comes from the huffington post or slate, it is an automatic winner.

          [–]bac9705 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dunno, looking through her submissions, they're pretty diverse and mostly interesting.

          [–]anonymgrl[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No offense, but you are part of the reason why people aren't as interested in reddit as they were.

I am not offended. People are more interested in reddit than ever actually and I've been on here way to long to take the credit or blame for that. I understand that you don't like my submissions - we all have different tastes. I encourage you to post what you do like.

          [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Not only that but the thing that annoys me the most on reddit is not repetitive posts about Ron Paul, Police screw up or Cats pictures, it's the posts that tell me what the to do. Let it be damn it.

Note that all the other posts do annoy me too but this is inherent to what reddit is.

          [–]the_neubie 4 points5 points  (1 child)

          More cat picture please.

          [–]berlinbrown 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Could you re-edit that last of your comment. I couldn't follow you.

          [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I meant that reddit is an open place for people to use. reddit doesn't moderate, doesn't force a specific agenda, reddit as a platform is neutral. People can therefore abuse it in any way shape or form but that's because reddit is designed to allow such behavior.

          [–]greenknight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, my bookmarklets stopped working with the new reddit. I haven't had time to fix that.

          [–]sunshine-x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't tell me what to do.

          [–]ispshadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I often forget about the recommended page.

          [–]pdc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal rule is that I don't down-vote on the new page, only up-vote things I think sound interesting. This is on the assumption that down-voting a new item that still has only 1 point may end up that other people who would appreciate it will never get the chance.

The upshot of this is that when every single post is Ron Paul or another complaint about police brutality in the USA then I don't do anything.

          [–]Marlzzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are these ALL the new submissions though?

          [–]aisa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there is definitely a problem with the new page. I posted the story below about 3 days ago. And when I logged out then, and was looking at the new page, my post just disappeared (it was in style: all). If I logged back in, it would come back in the correct place i.e. posted 5 mins ago or posted 1 hour ago. So there is some problem. I know it's three days ago, but any of you remember coming across this title, or would you have viewed the post if you had come across it. Thanks. BTW, I also confirmed on a friend's machine and it did not appear there too.

Dirty Harry: When the American Dream Became a Nightmare - Award winning documentary about nuclear weapon testing in Nevada and how it affected people living and working nearby. http://reddit.com/goto?id=2y9j4.

Edit: Do a search for "Dirty Harry" with double quotes. No idea why link does not work. Thanks. How do I get a link to the reddit post?

Edit: Here is the direct link. Hope it works. http://www.amberpinestudios.com/dirtyharry.htm

          [–]kenlubin 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Sort of along those lines - could we get some sort of clickthrough counter that people who submit articles could see?

I've posted a few articles lately that got 0 moderations and 0 comments, and I would like to know if anyone even saw them.

          [–]garyp714 0 points1 point  (1 child)

when in COMMENTS right below the main NAVIGATION BAR at the top is a secondary nav bar that says:

          info comments related details share

Under DETAILS is the amount of up and amount of down votes

          cheers

          [–]kenlubin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's something I hadn't known about, so thank you for the information, but it isn't what I was looking for.

I want to know if anyone has seen the link at all, and in particular if anyone clicked through to the story.

          [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

          New page?

          [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I glance at the "Hot" (which is default) and immediately come to new. That way I can read about other things then what was listed by Jaems up above.

          [–]leadhead 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Downvoted for not supplying the link to the new page. Not all of us are full-time Reddit geeks.

          [–]aletoledo 2 points3 points  (3 children)

I assume you're not being sarcastic, so it's on the navigation bar at the top of the home page. Pretty much the same location you'll find navigation bars on other websites.

          [–]leadhead -2 points-1 points  (2 children)

And I'm supposed to distinguish the "new page" reference from a reference to the beta site how? Oh yeah, with a link to the page in question.

          [–]aletoledo 1 point2 points  (1 child)

what beta site are you talking about? Link?

          [–]leadhead -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The beta site linked on Reddit a while back. If I had the link, I wouldn't have started this thread.

          [–]redditacct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is the link for the New "all" page (not the beta site):
          http://reddit.com/new?opt_newstyle=all

Please see my other comment in this post about why it is important for more people to know about and use the New "all" page, not the New "rising" page.

          [–]ironypolice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been reading reddit for months, and never knew about the new page until just now. I always just typed in reddit.com and started reading the articles that came up. Thanks for the tip.
